Considering the handling of the Luongo situation and probability that a very expensive buyout will be necessary, I think it's likely that Gillis will be fired this offseason.

Honesly, I think anything short of a conference finals appearance will mean the end for MG.

It should mean an end to Gillis and all the coaches. They have wrecked anything that was good about this team.

LOL! Vancouver has a bunch of spoiled, entitled fans for a city who has won NOTHING!

Gillis' resume

-Canucks= most wins in the NHL over ANY other team the last 4 years
-2 presidents trophy
-has never missed the playoffs under his regime
- Traded Patrick White for Ehrhoff
- Signed numerous players to below value contracts!! wow!! Sedins, Kesler, Edler, Hamhuis, Higgins, Burrows. Schneider
-1 Stanley Cup Final Appearance
- Drafted great young players for the position and spot we were drafting from- Jensen-Gaunce-Corrado

OMGZ Fire him now!!!!! lets re-hire Burke!!!!

I gurantee the second we fire Mike Gillis there will be 10 teams waiting at his doorstep.

I dont think where we go in the playoffs will determine MG's job security, it will for AV though. MG will be fired if we have to buy out Luongo though...... MG has up until the draft to do some serious damage control or else he is going to be going back to being an agent.

Doubtful. Hiller, Miller, Nabakov, Bryzgalov (if bought out) and Smith are all viable short term solutions. For teams looking long-term, Elliot and Bernier are options. I don't think anyone's going to be wiling to take on that contract.

So in the playoffs if Schneider gets injured or AV pulls him the team has to then rely on a goaltender that doesn't want to be here. Gillis should have fired AV and his assistants after last season. Now he will have to be fired.

I gurantee the second we fire Mike Gillis there will be 10 teams waiting at his doorstep.

He's also:
  • Traded a 1st and Grabner for Ballard
  • Signed Luongo to an atrocious contract
  • Inherited most of the core of the SCF team from Burke and Nonis
Most importantly, however, ownership won't be happy about shelling out the cash required to buy out Luongo.

For the record, I don't mind MG's record with this team. However, I'm not the one stuck with the Luongo buyout cheque.

LOL! Luongo will not be bought out! he will be traded at the draft!

and the team Gillis "inherited" missed the playoffs which was why Gillis was brought in in the 1st place.

and Lu's contract is only atrocious because we have Cory Schneider.! otherwise NOBODY would have a problem with LU being our goalie for the next 5 years at a 5.3 cap hit... Its not like we signed a crapty player to a crapty contract ala Lecavalier or brad richards.

That is great if you could go back in time, however near the end of the season last year they started to decline. Remember the first round knock out in the playoffs? This year he's going all in with Derek Roy. How about Going all in with Iginla, morrow, etc, etc

Lets not forget the fact he gave out another NTC with Higgins. At this rate the entire TEAM is going to have NTC's on their new contracts and he won't be able to move anybody.

What has Higgins done to deserve a NTC? It's getting pretty ridiculous.

Iginla didnt list us as one of his 4 team. hell in the end he only wanted to go to 1 team.

1st rnd knockout of the playoffs, yes i remember... remember that our leading goal scorer was concused from a cheap shot by Duncan Keith and was not healthy? Kesler having to go through multiple surgeries right after the season because he played hurt all year...

ya i remember why we got knocked out.

The Erhoff move was just a salary dump by Buffalo.

Yes, under Gillis' tenure the Canucks have had some success but how much of that can be attributed directly to Gillis?

And even if you give him kudos for all that success, you can't deny that he has also made some horrible trades and bad signings. And he has now painted the Canucks into a corner with the goalie situation.

Holy hell, get a grip people! We're having a sub par, shortened season. Our second line center has played all of 6 games. We lost our defensive specialist forever. We've been playing with a 1st line, 2-3rd lines, and a mix-n-match 4th the entire season. Our defense looks bad but I'm sure it's only because of the chaos up front and once our forward lines are finally settled, we'll see a marked improvement in overall team defense.

And despite this sub par season, we're tied for the division lead. We have more points in the same amount of games as the defending Stanley Cup champs. I don't think it's as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

and usually the coach goes before the gm
