We're commissioning one of the US Navy's newest warships "ready to go" here in Buffalo soon.  It wasn't supposed to be here until next Wednesday-Friday, but it looks like it will be here Monday instead.

It's going to be pretty cool to check out.

I like the modular concept here, not only for the versatility with the existing modules, but for future modules.  If the need arises to create a new module for new missions, it can be delivered quicker than building a whole new ship.  Hope it works out well.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for Canada to look at acquiring this type of ship.  Cost effective and flexible.

Security around the one that's here in Buffalo is tight with a capital T.

Looking like the type 26 global combat ship will win. The navy wants that ship.

Not much flexibility with those frigates but if they're cheap and suit Canada's needs, then it's better than what Canada currently has.  It's nice to see that Canada is putting together something resembling an actual navy.  I've been saying for a while that the state of Canada's navy was a quiet disgrace.

Interesting. Looks like the Super hornet has no chance, so I assume the f35 will be selected. Both the head of the air force and the defense minister have said that interoperability with the U.S air force is key.

RCAF commander Lt.-Gen. Michael Hood said his top priority was interoperability with the U.S.

Interoperability with the United States continues to be “the most important thing to me as command of the Royal Canadian Air Force,” he told my colleagues at Defense News in a newly published article.

“Every step less of interoperability is one step less of effectiveness, so interoperability is right at the top of the list beside operational advantage,” Hood added. “I want the young men and women that are going to be flying fighters into harm’s way to have an operational advantage, and that will be key to me in the competition that’s coming.”

As for the Australian purchase, what a waste of money. A competition shouldn't take 4 or 5 years, Trudeau is just buying himself time to not look stupid as he vowed not to buy the f35 but it's the jet the military wants. So he wastes tax payer money just to buy time with a 4 or 5 year competition. Should have just bought a full fleet in 2019.

Oh well I will give this government credit as they're finally making this purchase which will make the airforce stronger and keep our brave men and women safer with a new jet.

It will be interesting to see which jet in the end gets selected.

New U.S. warship trapped in Montreal by heavy ice

MONTREAL -- A newly commissioned Navy warship will be wintering in Montreal after its journey to Florida was interrupted by cold and ice.

A Navy spokeswoman says the USS Little Rock was commissioned in Buffalo on Dec. 16 and was expected to make its way to its home port in Mayport, Fla.

Thanks for the new warship @SabreFan1 :P
