Unless an offer comes in that's a significant overpayment, Granlund should considered part of the Canucks' future. I mean, our only young centers that are proven NHL-ers are him and Horvat. If Pettersson and Gaudette pan out, maybe they'd consider a move of one of them, but for now he's desperately needed.

Well you could read the thread where a number of reasons were outlined. Sometimes you trade high on an asset. We got him for very little, he had good numbers last season and he could garner some nice assets. Grablund is probably a middle six forward. He got lots of opportunity last season because he was a coache's favorite. Those numbers could easily reflect his ceiling. We have plenty of middle six forwards and more coming down the pipeline who need a roster spot to develop in. If you can trade Granlund for a younger player with a higher ceiling or a couple of high picks you do that. If you come out of camp with Burmistrov or some of the other young guys like Goldobin showing they need to be on the team, you need to make space. Burmistrov was probably a bad example but fair point

We'd take Pouliot and whatever short-term cap-dump necessary so Pit could meet cap. Rutherford traded away Sutter twice. Once from CAR and then from PIT. No way he like Sutter enough to trade for him. Plus too long a deal and too high salary for what he brings as a 3rd line C on a Cup team.
WHL rocks
Granlund is one of the best players on this team. He's only 24 yrs old. I don't see JB trading Granlund, he's trying to get more players like him, not trade away...
