  1. Boom https://www.washingtonpost.com/videoentertainment/denzel-washington-calls-upon-journalists-to-tell-the-truth/2016/12/14/b218db8e-c248-11e6-92e8-c07f4f671da4_video.html
  2. This is the exact problem. It's all about speed rather than accuracy. Just because a blue checkmark shares information doesn't mean that information is sound, even if it's "cleared" by some arbiter of truth employed at Twitter. There's a good clip on this from Denzel Washington a few years back, talking about media and the sharing of information.
  3. Agree 100%. Under the previous contract, merchants were not allowed to charge a fee for CC transactions. However, that didn’t prevent them from pricing their goods/services to account for the charge. But that would be included in all purchases, including cash or debit. Now that the rule is reversed, they could reduce prices equal to the fee and only include the charge on CC purchases. Would be interesting to see how many businesses go that route.
  4. Not sure if this was brought up yet, so apologies if there is a thread started already. Something to keep an eye on when paying with your credit card going forward. I noticed on my most recent Telus bill that they'll be adding a 1.5% surcharge fee when paying with a card after October 17. https://creditcardsettlements.ca/ Canadian Credit Card Class Actions Class actions were started in Canada claiming certain banks and Visa and Mastercard (the “Defendants”) conspired to set higher interchange fees and to impose rules restricting merchants’ ability to surcharge or refuse higher cost Visa and Mastercard credit cards. “Interchange Fees” are fees paid by merchants and collected by banks for transactions involving Visa and/or Mastercard credit cards in Canada. Settlements totaling $188 CAD million were reached with Capital One, Citigroup, Bank of America, Desjardins, National Bank, Visa, Mastercard, CIBC, Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal, TD Bank, and Bank of Nova Scotia. Additionally, Visa and Mastercard have agreed to modify their no-surcharge rules to allow merchants to surcharge up to a cap, and to ensure this ability to surcharge remains in effect for a minimum of five years. The settlements have received court approval, and there is a total of $131 CAD million in compensation available for distribution to class members after court-approved deductions (the “Net Settlement Amount”). The Defendants do not admit any wrongdoing or liability. The settlements resolve the class actions.
  5. These accusations are made by the children via affidavit, not the mother. She got full custody of the kids at the divorce and they don’t even tell Aquilini which schools they attend. Clearly they have not had contact with him and don’t want contact with him. By the description, they are 3 intelligent kids. I doubt this is manipulation. it is not far fetched that this wouldn’t have been brought up during divorce proceedings. In 2013 these three kids would have been minors. Not all parents want to disclose this kind of information for fear of the kind of damage it can do as public knowledge.
  6. Please share the information that leads you to this conclusion. Statistics Canada says about 32% of homicides in BC from 2016 to 2020 are related, or are suspected of being related, to gangs/organized crime.
  7. Not totally surprising. Twitter stock is up 15% since it was revealed he bought a 9% stake in the company. He's also offering $54.20 per share which is obviously a premium on the current value. But shares peaked at $77 last year so he's well below that. It's a shrewd move by him all around but it is not as earth shattering as some are making it.
  8. I see this on a lot of public forums lately, and can understand the view given the divisiveness of COVID and the related mandates. My post count is miniscule. I've been reading Off Topic and the Canucks section for many years. I prefer to read the thoughts and opinions of others rather than sharing my own and being pulled into the madness of arguing against anonymity . I don't believe this constitutes me as a troll or a mult. The forum has moderators who should, and do, hand out suspensions and bans to posters who knowingly share dangerous misinformation. The trouble now is that both "sides" of this issue scream misinformation at each other, not necessarily out of a desire to disrupt the social order or cause harm to their fellow travelers, but out of a sense of frustration for 2 years of mandates and restrictions that we've never seen the likes of before here at home. This is not abnormal, rather it is the opposite, completely expected.
  9. Not sure where you get that from my post. I’m simply pointing out that not everyone taking up a hospital bed is an antivaxxer, so it’s not accurate for someone to blame their surgery postponent solely on antivaxxers. While I may agree, in theory, that our medical system could be based on some sort of merit, that is not how it is set up.
  10. This says someone’s surgery was delayed by the pandemic, which yes is absolutely happening. But it does not say it was delayed by antivaxxers taking up the beds. if you’re insinuating that if everyone were vaccinated, there would be no delays due to covid, I don’t think that’s quite accurate, nor do I think you have the evidence to back that up. The way we phrase things is in increasingly important these days given how many of us are looking for someone to blame for this mess.
  11. One of the other posters said his friend overdosed and died but it was listed as a covid death because he tested positive. That poster was ridiculed and essentially called a liar for saying that without providing proof. I would say that this new post about the heart surgery being postponed due to “antivaxxers taking up the beds” is just as anecdotal as the first one. There is really no reason for either poster to lie on an anonymous Canucks internet forum, but I think all posts should be held to the same standards.
  12. Whoa wait...you DON’T support the BC government’s response to the COVID pandemic? That doesn’t come through at all in your other 8000 posts in this thread. You shoulda said something earlier.
