  1. I'm based in Hong Kong and only watch the game highlights... What has Granlund's usage been and how has he performed. I thought this was a dumb trade on the first day, but is it really like some of the reactionary posts in here suggest?
  2. Demko has to go pro next year, simply because it's not fair on the other kids playing the NCAA circuit.
  3. 30 saves tonight, has now saved 192/198 over 8 games.
  4. I say trade his rights. He's unlikely to figure in our plans going forward and the leading scorer in the 24 year old leading scorer in Sweden has got to be worth a 2nd rounder.
  5. Correct. We get the 53rd pick in 2019 or Boeser.
  6. In the case of Neill, there was an obvious BPA in Pilon. Gaudette was so far off the board.
  7. If you look at the PCS work done by the guys at Canucks Army, Jasek is the best player we took, and 19th best in the whole draft. His age is huge. A couple of weeks younger and he's first time eligible next year. He could amount to nothing, but there's a not insignificant chance that we have landed ourselves a top-6 winger in the 6th round. I've seen him listed at 6'1 190lbs. If we have a high skill, 6'1 210lbs Czech 21 year old on the team in 4 years, we should not be surprised. Exactly the kind of risk to take in the 6th round. JB goofed the 5th round this year, but otherwise has drafted really well since taking over. And I'm not a JB fan.
  8. The only way cap space is an impediment to signing Baertschi is if he's getting serious term. 5 years at $3 million per year or something. But that's a bit nuts in itself. JB hasn't shown himself to be a good contracts guy - either standard (Vrbata, Bartkowski, Kenins, Vey, Tanev, Weber, Clendenning, Corrado) or bad (Miller, Sbisa, Dorsett). I am worried that we are looking at a $2.5 mil deal for a guy who has like half a season under his belt. Not that I don't think Baertschi could be elite given the opportunity, but we are hemorrhaging cap space (10% of the overall cap in what I consider to be overpayment).
  9. McJesus and Eichel aside, I think only Winnipeg and the Isles had a better draft than us. Jasek would be a first rounder next year if he was a couple of weeks younger. Zhukenov was way off the board, but his international play was so good that I wonder why he wasn't rated so highly. We blew the fifth round by not taking Pilon, and we'll have to see how Brisebois pans out.
  10. I spoke to one of the Canucks Army guys about him yesterday. According to their fancy stats model, this guy should have been a late 1st/early second. Really hope he makes it.
  11. Demko's points per 60 isn't great, though.
  12. Miller being traded this year or next year is not out of the question. Penguins this year strike me as a potential destination for Miller. It's great that Markstrom is playing so well, hopefully he can really grow this year and stay making an impact in the NHL soon.
  13. I've just been checking out his stats on EliteProspects. It looks like this coming season will be his 4th in the WHL, meaning that he can play in the AHL next season, which could be hugely beneficial for both him and the Canucks organisation. The first year was only 9 games - does anyone know if that counts as one year in terms of AHL eligibility?
  14. Good for Bo. It'll be nice to see one of our somewhat recent draft picks playing for us for once! I think he needs 3rd line minutes for it to be worthwhile for him in the NHL. Kassian had almost no PP time last year, and played with Richardson and Booth for most of it and was still 3rd on the team in time adjusted scoring, yet you put him on the 4th line and play Higgins on the wrong side to fill the 2nd line RW spot? SEDIN SEDIN VRBATA HIGGINS BONINO KASSIAN BURROWS HORVAT VEY MATTHIAS RICHARDSON HANSEN
  15. We have an abundance of 6th-8th defensemen, maybe a couple who could be 4th or 5th guys, but in terms of young, elite D-men, we are leaving. We are very deep in goalie prospects (of an organisation had 2 of Lack, Markstrom, Eriksson and Demko they'd be pretty deep). I don't think we have a 1C prospect, but Horvat, Shinkaruk, Kassian, Virtanen, McCann, Jensen and Fox should cover the majority of our top 9 going forward. As in Gaunce, Lain and Cassels and we look like we'll have depth at centre. Two top 10 picks this year and I'd say we are set (so long as we get a to pair defenseman and a 1C). UFAs and trades can give us the rest of the pieces we need. Overall, of we're 27th, them the league is going to be insanely good in the near future.
  16. Given that he had already gone through the draft twice, why not just sign him to a contract before the draft? Also, JB said he was 265, but everywhere else lists him as 230ish. Does anyone know where the higher figure is coming from?
  17. I hope we don't do that. Overpayment. Change Shinkaruk for Higgins and I think that's the limit.
  18. Shinkaruk was 24th overall, not 6th. Going for the bigger guy here is insurance. If Virtanen, Ehlers or Ritchie only turn out to be 3rd liners, we won't have water the pick on someone who can't play the role. Doesn't matter anyway, MDC will fall to us. I'm confident.
  19. I really think Dal Colle will fall to us when another team goes for Ritchie's size or Ehlers' points. Virtanen is my man if the top 5 go as predicted.
  20. I take Virtanen. Then trade Keeler to Detroit for Mantha and their 2014 1st. Use that to select Tuch. Tank hard next year, but trade first overall for 2nd and 3rd (Eichel and Kylington) Shinkaruk Eichel Kassian Mantha Horvat Virtanen Gaunce Cassels Jensen Lain Matthias Tuch Kylington Tanev Stanton (2014/2015 2nd round pick?) Hutton Corrado Lack We lack elite/high end D prospects. We should trade for the picks we need to stock up on that front.
  21. I think we can do some good business in the first round this year. It looks like we have the 6th pick, so here's how I play it. To NYI: 6th overall 2014, Jannik Hansen To VAN: 4th overall 2014, 34th overall 2014 To DET: Ryan Kesler, Jakob Markstrom To VAN: 14th overall 2014, Anthony Mantha To ANA: 14th overall 2014, 186th overall 2014, 7th round 2015 To VAN: 10th overall 2014 Canucks select 4th, 10th, 34th, 36th, 66th, 126th and 156th. Take Leon Draisaitl, Haydn Fleury, Brendan Lemieux, Alex Nedeljkovic, Keegan Iverson, Hunter Smith and Ryan Mantha. Follow that up with #TankForMcDavid, while looking to move Edler, Garrison, Burrows and Higgins for picks and prospects. Projected lineup in a few years: Mantha McDavid (Elite UFA) Shinkaruk Draisaitl Kassian Gaunce Horvat Jensen Fox Lain Cassels Fleury (Elite UFA) Stanton Tanev Hutton Corrado Lack Youth/inexperience would be our only problem!
  22. Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Nylander, Richie, Kapanen, Perlini, Fleury and Virtanen all go before he does. If we trade Kesler for a top D prospect and a pick in the 11-14 range, Ehlers wouldn't be a bad take. I'd look at getting Mantha from Detroit first though.
  23. Trade 6th overall + Higgins to NYI for 4th overall + 94th overall + Anders Lee. Select Draisaitl.
