  1. You can see no less than 4 drafts since 2011 where I was screaming at the team to do nothing but draft RHD to make up for the shortfalls. Happy with the picks taken at RHD. Not thrilled with the smaller center over age players though. They confuse me. We need every single pick to hit, 3 per draft for the foreseeable future to be able to start accumulating some depth of prospects. Risky picks on over agers instead of safe picks of need are head scratchers
  2. We drafted more RHD in 24 hours than we have since 2018/2022 combined.

Which means going back to 2003 we have drafted a total of 16 total RHD in 20 years, out of a combined 138 total draft picks.  A total of 11.59% of all of our draft picks spent on RHD in 20 years, arguably our greatest positional need going back to 2003.

That is genuinely an insane stat if you think about it.  it's no wonder we don't have anything in the pipes knowing we went 5 straight draft years without drafting a single one and averaged less than 1 per draft with the bulk of all total RHD being drafted AFTER the 3rd round in that 20 year span.

Tanev was a right side defenseman (though he was an undrafted prospect).  I think Gagner was the scout that "found him".

Who would've thought that Brian Burke was right all along!  I *think* he said something along the lines that Gagner was the *KEY* component of the Bure trade.  Something like "if Gagner wasn't included in the trade, we don't do the deal".  Gagner later was hired by Mike Gillis to be a scout after his playing days were over.

  4. Was watching footage of the draft and one scout/gm said in the later rounds it came down to 3 things, if you didn't have them you needed one essential to make up for it If you could skate, didn't have skill or couldn't think the game you better have the size to make up for all of those shortcomings. Being smaller as well as a questionable skater I hope this kid has prairie heart to make up for it
  5. After Augustine and Hrabal none of the goalie prospects really stand out
  6. This pick makes me happy. Super happy. The family worked with or for the canucks for a while and it's so nice to have another RHD and local.
  7. This and Mueller confuse me. We don't have good luck with over agers in the draft. We had the option of drafting more local kids with size in positions of need. I just don't get the two forward picks in the 4th round but whatever. Let's hope this kid can put on some weight and actually develop properly. It's never a bad idea drafting a prairie kid so there's always hope
  8. I dunno. Mueller looks like Gaudette light. he would have been a free signing as of July 1st. I am far from in love with this pick and Perkins but they're our property now I guess so let's hope they learnt o eat a sammich and we learn how to develop the youth properly.
  9. correct me if I am wrong. But Mueller as a DY+2 could have simply been offered a contract right? Same with Perkins if he didn't go in this draft? they'd have been essentially free players right?
  10. Dammit Dallas....not happy with that. Flames and Stars consistently getting players in the later rounds I hoped for...
  11. Look at the side by sides. aside from the shocking RHD picks, it's almost identical. The craziest thing is. The Perkins and Mueller picks could have been had for free on July 1st with as congtract offer.
  12. Our plan is to have Perkins hide behind him on the ice and sneak out when nobody is looking
  13. No Idea who Matthew Perkins is but not enamoured with smaller bodied centres at all. 156 pound left shooting centre doesn't budge my interest much at all. Sask boy is always nice though
  14. I am worried that we traded for an injured player that played 4 games looked mediocre then was shut down for the season. Ya. I've gone over this. A lot. Why are people not understanding why this is an area of concern with this club?
  15. We actually drafted Gaudette who was a hobey winner, not a nominee. Just saying. Let's not get our hopes up based on that. I agree on the red flag comments drafting a DY+2 over ager from a university program that hasn't shown much improvement vs who else was on the board
  16. *checks notes* We made it 4 picks between swedes. New record!
  17. They don't want me because back in like 2006 I suggested Vancouver draft M Jackson and then trade for Little and Boyes so we could see M Jackson get his hands on Little Boyes They blocked me after
  18. So we literally got a ? That's it. I don't know why people keep assuming somehow he'll be continuing to do what he did in Detroit. Until he plays an actual season, stays healthy and manages to continue to be a productive non liability on the blue line we got a ? We also just watched that team pick up 1/3 of an entire NHL team in 3.25 rounds and it cost them very little
  19. Look at every draft thread I've been involved in going back to 2010 lol. been saying the same thing. Draft all the D unless it's a can't miss forward and then trade them off.
  20. Good luck pronouncing that Pens picks name regularly. Wow
  21. To my knowledge a lot of the reason he fell was due to lack of games as well as the fact the rangers were one of the most mediocre teams in the OHL to make the playoffs.
  22. Sawyer !!!!! Holy crap Yall got the pick ya wanted!! 6 foot 1 185 pound LHD from BC Can not complain at all. We've drafted more RHD in 2 rounds than we did in the last 4 drafts combined and more overall D than the last 3.
  23. I was screaming for this kid in multiple threads back in Janurary when I thought he'd still be a late 1st early 2nd round pick. Love how he processes the game and is an RHD. People will hate this but the same type of game he plays and the same reason he wasnt drafted in the late first are the same reasons and type of game Duncan Keith played in his draft year. While the latter years weren't kind to Duncans records for almost a decade he was one of the best 2 way defencemen in the entire game I love this pick so much and hope they let this kid marinate a bit and develop him right.
