100% agree. From not knowing whether or not the game was happening right until puck drop and the ongoing uncertainty with whether they themselves or their teammates are infected, there’s no way a human can be completely locked into the game.

To me, the guy who was trying to build a third Cup team with Crosby and Malkin is in completely different place with the Canucks. So how can we assume he'll act exactly as he did in Pittsburgh? I know you can say one thing and do another, but he's well aware that the Canucks are in a different place than the Penguins. And part of his role here is to groom future executives. So, I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he starts treating the Canucks as if we were the Pens, then yeah, lets revolt. But right now, all signs point to this organization looking to build for the future.

I think that's a far stretch from being lied to. The group, including Smyl, had JR picked. They were negotiating his deal. They couldn't come on tv and say "Oh yeah, JR is our guy, we'll get him locked up soon" because there's a thing called negotiation. For all intents and purposes, until JR was signed, the process was ongoing for an indefinite period of time. What if they couldn't come to a deal? Wouldn't they look stupid if they were on tv saying they're just about done?

They should've announced JR as their guy before he was signed?

No, I think they made their decision that JR was their guy a while ago and he was just towing the party line with the rest of the organization until the deal was finalized

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with Alf. Jim was building around Crosby and Malkin for those years. We don't have Crosby and Malkin. He'll evaluate what this roster is and build accordingly.
