On many nights I've felt Miller may be our best player. He's in his prime, youngish and still getting better and on n excellent contract with term. That trade is a win in every possible way unless that pick turns into a top line, top power play, puck hounding, physical winger.

I'm on board. I realize that many here feel we are rushing things but the truth is the West may never be as exposed and up for grabs as it is right now. Also, guys like Sutter, Beagle and Motte are on the edge of their prime and we need depth 2 way guys for any kind of a serious playoff run. As much as I am excited and optimistic about the future, the truth is now might be as good a time as any. There is something to be said for the naivete of rookies in the playoffs. Then there is Bo... He's due for a playoff appearance and needs it now as he enters his prime. I still thing Jim goes after another defender. We were on the verge of making a move for Simmonds. He would have cost a pick and a prospect as well. Toffolli is a massive step up in terms of ability and age. If we get him resigned we will get closer to the depth up front that I know most of us deep down know we are definitely in need of. It's another pick... It's Shalatov... And it's a B level prospect... Not bad at all for a solid player with a couple rings. Welcome to Van Tyler!!!

Totally agree. I’m really surprise so many people are thinking Minny won this trade. Zucker can score and has a two-way game and still has term left on his contract. Really good cap hit as well. Dumping Chuckie salary and getting a player back like that’s pretty good haul

I made the same comment during the third period and got a few negatives. Rose coloured glasses I guess. Marky stole it for us. The passing was pretty bad and the boys looked off for long stretches. Still... solid penalty killing, some scattered decent plays and buried our chances. Huge. GCG!!!

Petey has to toughen up bud. He is starting to come across as a little whiney now. If he gets that label players will tee off on him left right and center. He is still young and underdeveloped physically. Not quite built like a pro player yet. He’ll get there but he answer to this test right now and continue to evolve as a player. He can’t expect this team to start abandoning structure and taking stupid penalties because he is taking the odd hack and slash. Such a big deal being made over that hit the other night. He made a pass and admired it. It wasn’t open house or blindsided. Yes it was late probably deserved a penalty but I didn’t see it as a malicious play at all. Granted this team seriously lacks tough attitude and identity. But the players on this team just aren’t like that.

Agreed and that’s why I am all for a Simmons type acquisition at the deadline. But really when you sign guys like Myers Pearson Beagle Schaller Sutter etc. you know what you’re getting. I just don’t understand why management continues to sign tweeners and hope these guys are going to Into the kind of players we are referring to.

Sorry but I think that’s just a little exaggerated. Other than that cheap cross check Backlund early in the game everything I saw tonight was standard game with in the game stuff. Skilled players have been targeting this game forever and not always protected a lot of them have put a protect themselves. If you want to play in the pros you Gotta be able to rise above that.

This whole hangup on playing tough hockey is starting to get pretty overblown. Players just don’t hit as much in the game these days. Pucks are on and off players sticks so fast it’s really impossible to get there on time for a clean unpenalized hit. And most times if you do so you are out of position going back the other way and again in today’s game the play is so fast in transition with odd man rushed and materializing out of nothing. Modern day tough hockey is strong fast and skilled. Petey needs to fill out and get stronger and he will. We can’t dress players for protection. We need to sign and draft those types of players but they have to be able to play. Huggy doesn’t need protecting. We’re in a bit of a losing funk right now as are about 60% of the teams in the league. That’s the flow of the schedule these days. It’s a process people.

You’re good. Loving your Simmonds argument. We are close but still need a couple pieces. Starting to really feel like we might slip into the post season. If we do we will need to seriously ramp up the energy and grit levels. Anyone feeling we don’t need an upgrade in that department hasn’t been watching this team since 2012. The Green proposal gets me really juiced as well. Wish it was for real.
