  1. My D rankings this year (current roster): Hughes Schenn OEL Dermott Burroughs Hunt Myers Poolman
  2. JR definitely benefitted from having Crosby, Malkin and Letang. JR even pointed out when he was hired that VAN has never had a 1st overall and they need that. Makes me wonder if he has plans for a blockbuster at the Draft, or maybe he'll sign Letang in the off season.
  3. Disagree, Rathbone isn't a physical Dman or able to take the punishment Dermott does, IMO. Dermott 6'0 202 Rathbone 5'10 177
  4. Why do you dislike Dermott? I thought he did very well for a new, young guy coming in. Plays a defensively responsible game.
  5. Yeah, I've been watching Myers the last dozen games or so and he makes a lot of mistakes, especially in his own end. I wish he'd just focus on D, but sometimes he tries to take the puck up ice and gets caught. I also don't like that he doesn't use a slap shot much. The guy is huge and who knows, maybe he has a bomb of a shot. If he doesn't then he should be working on that. And learn how to hit without taking a penalty.
  6. Yeah, that would be rough if he's flying out there with Stone and Pacioretty on his wings
  7. I get it that Stephenson and Whitecloud aren't sexy names, but I have doubts they can get a Schneider or Marino or Carlo, etc. The 1st rounder next year could be real good. If Miller doesn't flourish, they're doomed.
  8. I think as long as JR feels the Canucks came out on top of the trade, that wouldn't be an issue. Stephenson was 2nd in team scoring, and Whitecloud is a 24 year old RD with some size. And if Vegas doesn't go deep, that 1st could be very nice. It would be a risk for Vegas, but it's Vegas, land of the risk takers. They might look at it as Miller is a much better C than Stephenson, and could take some of the pressure off Eichel.
  9. You may be assuming another team has to take on that salary ($8.5), but if it's a players-for-player trade, the cap might not be too bad for another team. But also, the other team might need to create space if they really want Miller. Not VAN's problem. With Vegas losing and some chaos seeming to be around the team, they're going to want to make a splash and get right back into the thick of things (playoffs). I could see them possibly trading for Miller, to also mentor Eichel and take some of the heat off him. Seeing Miller in one of those gold helmets, though, kind of a funny image. He would not be happy. A 1-2 punch of Miller and Eichel down the middle would be good for them, for a few years anyway. Miller for (RD) Whitecloud, (RW/LW) Stevenson and a 1st (2023) Chandler Stephenson could be the #3C. Good Draft year in 2023. Vegas might be desperate and put all of their chips in. Edit - Just struck me - does Vegas even have a 1st in 2023? They might've already put all of their chips in with Eichel.
  10. Yeah, too bad they lost, but close game. They'll get 'em next time. Bloody Oilers farm team.
  11. Halford and Brough "Podkolzin got one in the A last night..., but probably a better way to put that." - referring to Podz' goal with Abby.
  12. Is Hoglander a part of the young core moving forward? I know a lot of Canucks fans really like him, but he's also a mistake machine and tries to do too much, needs work defensively. But he does create some offence. I think Boudreau made comments early in his tenure about how some of the young prospects were brought in too soon, should've developed more. Maybe he was referring to Rathbone, but also Hoglander? Could Hoglander be used as a trade piece to ship out Dickinson or Myers?
  13. What is Plan B? That's what I'm most curious about, and what they're actually offering those guys. My guess is they want Miller on a shorter-term deal at a reasonable $, and then he'll have to decide. I think Miller wants to play here, for Bruce, so we'll see.
  14. I can't think of anything Canucks-related, much worse than the possibility of hearing "Bruce, there it is!", in another team's building. That would really suck. I hope Bruce comes back and blows JR/PA away with his winning record. JR/PA said they don't want to take a step back, so I'm not sure how they'll avoid that if they do trade Miller. So many conflicting messages, really confusing as to what they might be thinking.
  15. It sounds like they intend to re-sign Brock with term. Can't say the same for Miller, he'll be 30 when a new contract would kick in. Do they want to commit $50-60 to an older veteran? I can't see it, not if they want to get younger and build up the prospects like they said. It's good to have veterans on the roster, but not any they're paying $8+ to for the next hundred years. I get the feeling JR/PA will do what they want, to improve the team. Some of the moves won't be popular, but this isn't a popularity contest. They want to win a Cup here, this is how they're doing it. Let's enjoy the ride.
  16. to NYI: Miller to VAN: #13, (LW) Kieffer Bellows and (RD) Bode Wilde Canucks would have the #13 and #15 and add Bellows and Wilde to their prospect pool. NYI have a C they can win with, now. That would also really irk NYR fans for missing out on Miller.
  17. That means nothing though, talking to their agents. Because JR/PA would've traded Miller at the TDL if they were out, tells me he's not in their future plans. So, as far as talking with his agent, it could be something like "We're prepared to offer JT $7.5 over 5 years". End of conversation I guess. JR/PA have a plan, they're not going to crumble to fans wants. Sure Bruce is a good coach and an even greater guy by the sounds of it, hut he might not be their guy to bring glory to Vancouver. Just like JT might not be their guy to lead them.
  18. Is Pettersson ready to take the reins?
  19. What I found interesting as well, is when Allvin said that Pettersson, Hughes and Demko have potential to be superstars, but he never even mentioned Miller or Horvat. They also never commented on JT's great year of 99 points, or Bo's highest goal scoring season. My guess is these are negotiating tactics. Admitting those guys are superstars could be very expensive.
  20. Sure does! I'm really excited for the off season and the 2022/23 season They aren't rushing into anything, everything seems very calculated. Plan A seems to be try to re-sign Miller, Horvat and Boeser, and if they can't get a deal done with any of them, they'll move on to Plan B. I like that they're not willing to sacrifice the future just for the sake of doing something. I really feel VAN will have its best chance at a Cup yet.
  21. Alright, good to hear, Rathbone will be with VAN next season. Will he be playing he right side? Or possibly Dermott? Ekman-Larsson - SEVERSON Hughes - Schenn Dermott - Rathbone Burroughs
  22. Really bad hit, so dirty, blindsided So, Clifford will come back to a TOR 2-0 series lead. Cooper needs Matthews suspended.
  23. I wonder what that magic number is. I have a feeling JR's offered salary starts with a 7
  24. Can they trade Miller (and others) and be better next year? If they think so, I wonder who they are targeting. JR/PA said something to the effect of, the trick is not trading away the wrong players and adding the right players. Would be terrible to lose Miller, but what if the return was Barzal+, for example? Barzal is a player that could probably use a change of scenery, he's fast and very skilled, and will only be 25. VAN could have pretty exciting team next season. Pettersson, Boeser, Podkolzin, Hughes, etc. are just getting their careers started. They'll get better as time goes on. With how Pettersson played the last bunch of games, they want him to play like that all year. But if he, Horvat and Boeser can, and lined up with better support players, they could provide a lot of offense. Podkolzin looks like he's going to be very effective for years to come as well.
  25. They want to build a young core (mid-20s and under). This would include (25 and under): Pettersson Boeser - re-signed ($6.5 x 3) Hoglander Podkolzin Lockwood Hughes Dermott Can't have a team filled with young players though. They need veteran leadership: Miller - re-signed ($8 x 5) Horvat - re-signed ($6.25 x 5) Chiasson - re-signed ($1 x 2) Ekman-Larsson Schenn Demko Goodbye: Garland Pearson Dickinson Richardson Sutter Myers Poolman Hunt Halak Luongo penalty
