  1. When was the last time an offer sheet was successful? (not counting Kotkaniemi) I really don't see it happening, but who knows with Rutherford? I also doubt NYI let Dobson go because the Canucks offered more. Looking at other RDs (RFAs): - Liljegren (TOR) - Durzi (LA) - DeAngelo (CAR) That's about it. Does JR offer sheet one of these guys? I can't imagine. Pure speculation, but I wonder if the Rangers played hardball with JR regarding Miller, and now JR is going to go after Kakko. Maybe then they ship out Boeser or Garland on the right side. Fox will get a 10X pay increase next season (going from $925K to $9.5m) Zibanejad gets a $3.25m pay increase. Trouba, Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider - are all expensive. Can NYR afford to keep some of their young stars?
  2. I hear Fiala could be going to NJ to join his fellow Swisster (?) Nico Hischier. So, the Devils would probably be out on Garland or Boeser.
  3. Offer sheets are so rare, but you never know. Dobson would be a great add to the Canucks. Hughes - Dobson Would JR definitely target a RD? I'm assuming he would, as that's the Canucks biggest need and offer sheets can't be taken lightly. will be a few good forwards available too (Kakko, Norris, Bratt, Robertson, Crouse)
  4. I was at the Sharks game this season and Burns was awful. I just hope JR doesn't do anything silly here.
  5. This irritates me. Not because there's another Pacific division team interested, but because Faber is trying to cause a panic reaction in the fan base. No kidding he's talking to other teams! Reminds me of that click bait crap about the Depp-Heard courtroom drama. Yesterdays' "news" was "Depp's lawyer makes jury laugh". Really? Who gives a turd? Just sickening the way they're trying to get the public to pick sides. This Tweet by Faber
  6. Playoffs, definitely, because Benning mortgaged the future to make that happen and made the promise. In hindsight, I wish VAN kept the two 1sts, LE, Roussel, Beagle. Those three players are now done, imagine the extra cap VAN would have this off season, not to mention two very good prospects developing.
  7. I have no idea what the cap would be, but it sure sounds like the discussions are going well. Allvin has been scouting this guy for 9 years? Does Millstein work for any other Canucks? It would be nice if he was Podkolzin's agent too. Considering all that this team has been through the last few years, it sure would be good to get a win here.
  8. VAN should be excited for many years for what is about to come? This sure sounds like - VAN should be excited for many years with Kuzmenko on their team
  9. Wonder if the Canucks will somehow win a lottery spot, or possibly trading up, and where they'll draft. With the new rules and if VAN intends on being good every year (playoffs), they'll never get a 1st OA. I don't like the new rules. Suggested this before and I still stand by it: # of years without a 1st OA = 1 lottery ball Canucks would have 52 fricken balls in there. BUF would have zero. Seeing as they just got Power, that seems fair. No clue who they'd pick at any number. This is JR/PA, what kind of drafting will they do? My guess is analytics will play a large part. a RD is priority, but unless they're in the Top 5, forget it, unless they really love Chesley or Luneau at #15
  10. to NJ - #15, Boeser and Hoglander to VAN - #5 to NJ - Garland and Myers to VAN: Severson and Zacha Sign (UFAs) Burakovsky and Nichushkin ___________________________________ Burakovsky - Miller - Podkolzin Zacha - Pettersson - Nichushkin OEL - Severson Hughes - Schenn (then Jiricek or Nemec)
  11. OEL - Myers Hughes - Schenn Dermott - Poolman Hunt This is not a D that will have much playoff success, if any. I hope JR/PA don't think just because they played inspired hockey over the last half of the season, that they're good enough to compete next year with just a couple of tweaks. Looking at successful D on contenders, they have at least 4 high end Dmen. Canucks have one, maybe two. Demko is an awesome goalie, but the Canucks need to fortify their D before thinking playoffs. So much focus on Miller and Boeser. I'd like to see JR move up in the Draft, try to get either Jiricek or Nemec. I'd also like to see them be aggressive in acquiring another Top 4 Dman, like Severson, and a young D almost ready to take the next step (Lundkvist?). I know Hughes likes playing with Schenn a lot, and vice versa, but Quinn should be developing now with a D partner he'll play with for years. Schenn might not be here for much longer, possibly even being traded at the 2023 TDL. A lot of teams will want him for their push and the Canucks could really cash in. They need a succession plan for Schenn. Poolman is done IMO, and may not play again. Myers is a giant mistake machine who makes too much. Lots of work to do.
  12. Payroll? Looking at our scouting department, let's see,...we have Benning, Conacher, Lenardon, .....wait a sec. Benning? Mr. Rutherford, we have a problem!
  13. There isn't much in the Abby prospect pool, but you have a good point about Karlsson, and maybe there's more. Lockwood Rathbone Klimovich Woo Bains Karlsson McDonough Jurmo I'm hoping these guys can make a real run at a spot on the Canucks one day. I also think Granato and Clancey are working hard on finding the gems in the Euro and college leagues. Would be wonderful if they could snag Kuzmenko, and maybe Jake Livingstone.
  14. It would be sweet justice, if, after 53 years, the Canucks get their first 1st overall and it's Bedard. JR did say the Canucks needed that (a 1st), so here's hoping he's paying off the right people. I mean, I hope VAN gets some luck for a change!
  15. NJ's pick could turn out to be Jiricek or Nemec, a RD to be paired with Hughes for the next 10-15 years. Is that worth Boeser+? I think so.
  16. JR/PA talked about defensive structure, and how the team is one pf the worst in the league regarding D-zone clearing. I think Brad Shaw has done an okay job, or has he? Phil Housley was just fired by the Coyotes. Would he be a better D coach than Shaw? Perhaps Housley would also be a great help to Hughes, as he once played a similar style of D. No?
  17. NJ's #5? That's going to be pricey VAN's #15, Boeser and Hoglander
  18. I believe Miller will be offered a mere $7.8 x 6 years, and he will accept. A lot of intangibles. If his wife and kids love it here, they're staying and I believe they do, from Miller's comments. Players don't want to uproot the whole family, look for a new place to live in a strange city, get the kids into a new school, then try to gel with new team mates, etc. He could make more on the open market, but I think stability, a good team environment, having a big role with the team and playoffs, is what JT would wants. Canucks will be in the playoffs next year.
  19. Yeah, I'm trying to keep my expectations low. What are the chances he picks the Canucks? Fingers crossed. I believe the Oilers were the front-runner for him (the McDavid effect - aka pulling a Lucic), but this guy wants to play a regular role, not start out in the A or watching from the rafters. So, the Oilers might not make sense for Kuzmenko. Vancouver, on the other hand, is a perfect opportunity for him. He will play, oh he will play! New BFF Podz is waiting Andrei! C'mon down!
  20. I agree, big changes to the D are needed
  21. Regarding Boudreau - JR and PA have been a part of championship teams, same with Granato, and they may prefer to have a head coach with championship pedigree to get the team there. I suspect it takes a certain discipline and seriousness from the bench boss, and Boudreau might be too easy going. Rikard Gronborg has championship pedigree, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he was the next head coach.
