  1. Whenever I read Trans Mountain I can't help but think Transgender Mountain
  2. Immigration into Europe and into Canada are two very different things. We don't have a strong cultural identity in Canada, in fact our identity is mostly our diversity and multiculturalism. Which makes us excel on taking on immigrants. European countries, on the other hand, have strong cultural histories and identities, which makes culture clashes inevitable when there's mass immigration. And there's evidently strong culture clashes happening. I recommend checking out Douglas Murray's videos on the issue. He's a leading voice on the issues of multiculturalism in Europe. There's nothing wrong with nationalism and trying to protect a cultural identity. Nobody craps on countries like Japan and Korea for highly strict immigration policies. In Canada's case, our nationalism is our internationalism, if that makes sense. But Canada is one of few countries like this. Just my two cents, I follow the issue closely.
  3. Gulag Archipelago Volume 2. Amazing read. Just reading about the construction of the Belomor Canal, and how Stalin demanded of 100 000 prisoners (mostly political) that they build it in less than two years. They were supplied with no tools and almost no materials aside from concrete, and not even wheels on their wheelbarrows. Lots of engineers were there as generally engineers as a whole weren't too happy about the revolution, and they invented their own machines out of wood to transport concrete and boulders, like wooden cranes and wagons. They even hand made a furnace to forge wheels for the wheelbarrows. In the end around 100 000 died on the job and their skeletons were often shoved into the concrete mixers, as when the snow melted there were tons of skeletons from decomposed bodies. Often 48 hour shifts in polar conditions. Some had to sleep outside. They worked in the clothes they were wearing when arrested. Crazy stuff.
  4. Looks like Troy Stecher and a muscly Squire Barnes
  5. I was curious as well, so I googled and found this. Dunno if it helps, though.
  6. Love how he steamrolls that defensemen as well. Also, Hughes and Woo both got 10 min misconducts after the game had ended haha.
  7. Probably the safest decision, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about potentially seeing him playing with the big bois. Let him stew and grow a year longer, and give Juolevi his chance this year. Probably would have gotten tricky with two rookie dmen going for spots on the team anyways. It just easier this way and besides, there's no rush at this point in the franchise. Offsetting our rookie dmen's starts and letting Hughes mature is better than our expedient, drooling desires to watch a top prospect in the NHL. Nonetheless, this year and next year will still be exciting on the rookie front.
  8. Yea, I noticed his body as well. Looked NHL sized. I was expecting him to look smaller, somehow. His puck handling was also really smooth. Probably had the sexiest move in the shootout but rang it off the post. He's got an intriguing combination of attributes. Exciting debut of sorts for the Rathboner.
  9. Hughes played pretty casual last night. Definitely looked bit gassed and I'm guessing that was from the illness. Having said that, he was still evidently the most talented player on the ice. Even with his casual play he was getting around guys easily and his hockey IQ is so high that he never got caught in a bad spot. Always was able to make a play. I wouldn't put too much stock in the game as a point of serious evaluation, considering he didn't look like he was giving 100%.
  10. Going to the showcase tonight. Excited to see how much the Rathboner has grown with my own eyes.
  11. Gotta get a Yandle on that Rathboner
  12. The Wrath Boner. Or the Boner of Wrath.
  13. Yea, all signs point to him being NHL ready. The WHC felt like the final confirmation of that. It's fun seeing Green, Benning, and Aquilini all as giddy as the rest of us.
  14. Sounds like Elias in Utica isn't even crossing Green and Benning's minds anymore.
  15. Can't wait to see the Rathboner in action. Have a good feeling about him.
  16. Whenever I see Aquilini drooling over Pettersson on Twitter I imagine him seeing Elias as a dollar bill zooming around on skates
  17. Well with EP's giant forehead we can expect even more trophies heading his way
