Most of the fans on this site are still living in the delusion that Benning was the greatest GM ever. When you tell them that this club is a cup contender just mention his name a few times.

I forgot about the LTIR. So the bonus rolls and compounds the mess that Jim left behind. They might as well move out some players. Next year is a wash . You can't keep pushing the troubles down the road.

If they can move out Pearson , Hamonic and Dickinson. That would help a lot. None will be easy to move.

Or just clear enough cap space to absorb his bonus. That bonus is 1.5 mil. Yes the buyout hits are all gone for the next year. 2.4 mil for next then gone.

We don't have a cap issue if you are happy with status quo. For this year. Then their will be a couple of mil of bonuses pushed to next year plus the buyout roll over of 2.4 mil. next year you will need to resign Boeser and hopefully hey can get a deal done that is around what he makes right now. So basically next year will be roughly the same team. No wiggle room to improve. The year after you will need to resign Miler and Horvat or watch them walk away for nothing. So, yes we have a cap issue.

People are throwing around numbers like 7.4 for Boeser. Horvat will need to get 7 then. Petey will be 9 on his new deal. At those number we won't have the ability to add depth players. None of our players are leading the league . If those are the numbers for good players then JR might as well blow this up and start again. Miller , Boeser , Garland , Meyers and if Petey will want 9 mil then might as well blow him out as well.

Resigning Boeser should be easy because he is already being paid what he is worth. They need cap flexibility to add not to maintain status quo.

I think we could see several players moved. If they do it right they could bring in young NHL player in each deal plus futures. They could gain cap flexibility and add as much as three pieces for each player. Yes this could set us back for a couple of years but the organization could come out of it stronger than ever. If you could get close to 3 pieces per for Meyers, Miller , Garland and Boeser you will set them up.

If they decide to move out a top player or two we may be looking at a higher pick .

I am all for it. They can't add with the cap issues so something has to give. I am ok with a step back for a couple of years. They have an opportunity to turn a couple of high end talents into depth for the future. They must be getting a kings ransom to make it work. JR could be the perfect GM for the point this team is at. Boudreau is also the right coach because he is showing the true capabilities of a few players. Guys like Meyers are being shown in a much better light. If they do this right it could set this franchise up for years to come.

We all want a winner. This club has a problem. They aren't good enough and they are at the cap. Some how they need to increase their talent level .

If they move Miller and I say if ! Then they might as well take the opportunity to reset and add some depth. If Miller is out then I would try to get Boeser signed to a reasonable deal or he would be next. They would also have to be sure Horvat can be extended. Then Meyers, Pearson and Garland would all be dangled to see their value. Try to bulk up with some youth and picks.

The plan may also be to get a few of the high paid bottom six guys like Dickinson looking good enough to be able to move them.
