Watched him live last game, and he was way more vocal than I thought he'd be. Directed players to where they should be defensively, and asked questions between whistles. He's very engaged, and I like that. I always thought he had better hockey IQ than given credit for, but seeing him play defense in the flesh made me realize he's better in that area than I thought. That is a part of his game that has more potential than we might have anticipated, and added to those tools he has that's pretty scary; still what he needs to work on the most though.

I think Granlund will be an NHLer, but Shinkaruk has more potential. I'll take the potential.

Once he learns to use his speed to create turnovers he'll be dangerous.
-
Boeser is a sniper; just the player we needed.
But he's also positionally sound, and has good timing with his passes.

It's not like we got a bad player. It's obvious we got a good prospect.

Boeser's game is not really speed, it's positioning himself for a shot, and he should improve his skating in ways that would help that.
Horvat looked sluggish off his first step and now he creates so many partial breakaways for himself.
Boeser's game is more one timers and things of that manner, but that extra burst of acceleration might expand his repertoire a bit. -

JV is playing a NHL game with junior players. He dominated the ice on many shifts. His points are almost secondary. I expect he cranks up the hitting when the games count. In the 2nd period he hit a Swede behind the Canada net knocking the kid flying. As he came up the ice another Swede went after him for some payback and Virtanen met the hit and sent the guy down. The play had gone up the ice but I suggest that most of the Swedish bench was watching Jake at work. This type of play can set a tone that dominates a game.
The Swede game was a bit of a joke as neither team played very well. Canada will struggle in this tourney if they cannot come together better.
There is no point in Virtanen going back to junior. He has to be challenged by NHL play. What he can do against juniors will not help his development. He has to be challenged by NHL caliber every game he plays. Fans should realize by now that his game will never be measured against other players PPG. Virtanen's true value will be his physical game complimented by points. Canucks are a bit of a joke in the physical game and any true CUP contender needs players who can dominate the ice physically. It improves puck possession and discourages opposition.
I agree, but Virtanen has a good shot and just hasn't been able to use it in the nhl. I bet that once he starts getting chances he'll gain confidence and become a productive player.

Why is it hard to believe that McCann liked Naslund growing up? He modeled his game after Kesler.
-
His shot is unreal. Quick release and he shoots exactly where he wants to.
He's good away from the puck too.
We got a gem here.

Always liked Rodin, but it's amazing he's playing so well.

His passing is better than advertised.

newsflash... That is not being run out of town! He always said how much he loved the fans here, go dream up another theory!
"There's no hiding it. I did want to play that game," Luongo told reporters. "I mean that goes without saying, and if I would have played I probably would maybe still be here. Who knows?"
-
run out of town? lol, he was under contract for a long time but wanted to play in Florida. How is that getting run out of town?
i hope sometime in the future that both Cujo and Lui get in to the HOF despite no veins or a cup... Both big time goalies on unfortunate teams at the time.
He was run out of town cause the media and fans made him feel like he was in a fish bowl. Same thing happened to Bure, and look where he went.
He was great to both Schneider and Lack, and I really do think he was starting to get comfortable here again. Torts not playing him in the Winter Classic was the straw that broke the camel's back.-

It's hard to compare goalies from different eras. But based on statistics, Luongo is better for sure. CuJo's only greater statistic is in wins, but Luongo is catching up fairly quickly.
Their SV% and GAA in the playoffs are almost identical. Had Luongo been playing on a better team sooner, he definitely would have had more playoff wins.
Also Luongo has gone further in the playoffs.
Luongo: Game 7 Stanley Cup finals
CuJo: Game 6 Conference finalsCuJo is famous for making a bad Toronto team extremely fun to watch, but Luongo probably played even better when he was on Florida the first time.
So mad he was run out of town. Should still be here, solidifying his legend.

Should have got the Gordie Howe hat-trick.
Farnham was such a douche. Saying "that was for you" when Virtanen knocked him on his ass. The only reason he got another punch was cause the refs did a horrible job breaking them up.
-
He looked great in OT, until that soft penalty on Hamhuis. That saucer pass to Edler was amazing though.
-
Boeser dangling through 3 defenders to set up Schmaltz for a scoring chance
This kid is really good.
He basically made the whole team look stupid.
His acceleration is much better than expected. He's been getting a lot of breakaways, and capitalizing on them.
-
Stoked he made the team. He's played his role really well, and I think he will take on more responsibility as far as offence.
-
Virtanen's been playing well. Hope his ribs are alright.
Sometimes he looks lost, but then you realize he's covering the point or someone off-screen.

Virt played an awesome game yesterday. 7 hits (BIG hits) registered on the official stat sheet, one assist, and a breakaway that could have very well been a goal. Not to mention he was rewarded with more playing time. Willie IS the right coach for these young guys.
Virt loudly got almost as much ice time as Daniel. I say loudly, cause he got some bangin' hits.
He also went in front of the net, and forechecked well. That bat down for the breakaway was a heads up play.
-
Man, he REALLY got under that.
Can't even see the puck.
-
Horvat didn't play that much last year and he made the team.
-
Virtanen will be a beast top 6 player. A guy who hits that hard that young doesn't come around every day. Whether he skates into his hits or not doesn't even matter--he will lay someone out--but it must be mentioned how fast he is.
I wanted Virtanen or Ehlers in the draft. However, I felt like we got the right guy at 6 considering the guy we got at 24, and I still feel that way. Ehlers would have been nice, but we could not fit someone that size into the line up when we had Schroeder or when we first got Shinkaruk.
Now, guys like Shinkaruk, McCann, and Baertschi will have a better cast around em because we've drafted guys like Virtanen.
Yes, I'm disappointed in Virtanen's offensive output, but he has exhibited hockey IQ than we thought, and asserted himself with limited icetime.
-
Virtanen has actually played an efficient game. That many hits in so few minutes is not easy.

What? He was drafted by Jim Benning.
