Pretty much. Shocked people are mentioning Boesser and Horvat in the same sentence as MacKinnon. He's on a different level from both of them combined.
That's going a bit too far. I don't wanna put a cap on Horvat's potential--if he got that much faster in a short amount of time just through playing shorter shifts and NEVER floating around, who knows how good he'll get. However, I think we'll all agree that while Horvat has a high floor, Mackinnon has a very high ceiling. He looked like the best player on the ice most of the time in his first playoffs.
On the other hand, it's just ridiculous to say Boeser is better than Eichel, at this point. It's fairly likely Eichel will be better than McDavid in their first season. He is more developed than almost anybody who has entered this league at that age.
-
I had heard Nashville had Horvat rated that high but when Jones slid it was a no brainer.
Yeah that makes sense. I couldn't believe Jones slid.
-
He also traded for a guy who didn't wanna be traded, and certainly did not want to be there.
Just a bad, bad deal. -
Jones
Monahan
Horvat
That's the top three.
A GM not named Gillis had him ranked 4th.
He might be right. Although some of us worried if he'd be able to drive to the net like he did in junior, he did that in the playoffs. When he converts those chances, oh man.
I'd probably rank Mackinnon ahead of him though. Maybe Barkov.
-
... I stand corrected.Unless your GM is George McPhee.
-
Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. I'm not sure i see a 30 goal season in Virtanen let alone a 50.
I said 'potential.' I don't think he'll be a 50 goal scorer like Neely; I just think he'll be similarly hard to play against.
-
wow people really don't understand how good Hanzal is here lol.
Hanzal is a good player. One of my favourite on the Coyotes. But it's the Coyotes....
Virtanen has Cam Neely potential. You don't trade that for a 30 pt producer.
-
Virtanen for Hanzal is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Dude has such patience with the puck, but isn't afraid to let loose when he gets a one timer.
I'm not worried about him leaving us at all. He seems really stoked to be a Canuck. -
Jebus, what's with that hair cut Jake?!
I think I puked in my mouth
-
Selanne was awesome but his shot was a muffin I don't see the comparable there.
I'm just talking about his ability to rove around the net on the powerplay
-
Maybe it's just because he played Finland, but I just realized that another comparable for his ability to find open spots is Selanne. If he can develop the same kind of offensive awareness as Hull and Selanne, in finding places to shoot, then we've got a player on our hands.
-
Probably going to get the Draisatl treatment. With the Canucks til WJC, then back to the Hitmen in Jan.
It's also possible he joins after the WJC, when some players have been traded. We could use that hitting acumen in the playoffs, and it seems like that hockey IQ issue has been overblown.
-
He knows where he wants to shoot before he gets the pass. We haven't had a guy like him come in for a long time
-
Stoked to hear he got a hat trick.

Canucks want him at 205: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Jamieson+Virtanen+learning+hard+Canucks+camp/11195615/story.html
The general plan is to increase Virtanen’s strength and reduce his percentage of body fat. He arrived at Utica in May with 215 pounds on his big, 6-foot-1 frame, but the Canucks would like to see him at around 205 at training camp.Could probably skate faster at that weight, and I'm not even sure if it'd affect his hitting much. Maybe with big dmen

I think I'd rather have Virtanen over any of the guys there, although I wanted Dal Colle before the draft (but he's been somewhat outshined by cassels - what a pick).Mark Masters @markhmasters 3m3 minutes ago

Team Canada practises today & tomorrow before facing Russia on Monday; 1st of 4 exhibition games over 4 days v RUS & CZE

If we had a true 1D our team would be complete. Looks like we'll have to wait too long though
-
I don't know how but Virtanen needs to get his 9 game stint imo. It's important for his development. Maybe a trade or like I said there's usually someone injured anyways.
This is the 6th overall pick from 2014. He needs to get a taste of the nhl.
I think the Canucks drafted him because of what he might do with the Sedins. Expect him to get in quickly, but maybe not next season

Hockey sense is mainly an individual skill that can't be taught by any coach. That's the way I look at it atleast
Not really. It's true that some just have great vision and an innate sense of where to go to get the puck, but hockey sense also incorporates turning what you learn from a coach into instinct
-
That's a bit much...this guy will be our duncan keith, he's too good
-
I'll just leave this here:
*Jizzzzzz*
He never leaves his feet.

It's encouraging that Green liked him so much, but I think it would better to give him one more year
-
If his junior coach didn't give him 20 mins a game, why should we expect Willie to give him 10?
