  1. Canucks want him at 205: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Jamieson+Virtanen+learning+hard+Canucks+camp/11195615/story.html

The general plan is to increase Virtanen’s strength and reduce his percentage of body fat. He arrived at Utica in May with 215 pounds on his big, 6-foot-1 frame, but the Canucks would like to see him at around 205 at training camp.

Could probably skate faster at that weight, and I'm not even sure if it'd affect his hitting much. Maybe with big dmen

Team Canada practises today & tomorrow before facing Russia on Monday; 1st of 4 exhibition games over 4 days v RUS & CZE

I think I'd rather have Virtanen over any of the guys there, although I wanted Dal Colle before the draft (but he's been somewhat outshined by cassels - what a pick).
  3. I don't know how but Virtanen needs to get his 9 game stint imo. It's important for his development. Maybe a trade or like I said there's usually someone injured anyways.

This is the 6th overall pick from 2014. He needs to get a taste of the nhl.

I think the Canucks drafted him because of what he might do with the Sedins. Expect him to get in quickly, but maybe not next season

  4. Hockey sense is mainly an individual skill that can't be taught by any coach. That's the way I look at it atleast

Not really. It's true that some just have great vision and an innate sense of where to go to get the puck, but hockey sense also incorporates turning what you learn from a coach into instinct

  5. 28 points in 41 games during the regular season and 8 points in 8 playoff games. His play was pretty impressive. Only thing lacking was footspeed

I thought he brought a lot to the table.

Sundin was amazing in the playoffs. We failed him.

  6. Shinkaruk? He has been healthy for a full season now. So has Virtanen. What year is this?

Further to the point above about William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs, you can also note that Nikolaj Ehlers will have a clear path to NHL stardom thanks to the Evander Kane trade.

The more you look at the NHL as a collective business, the more clearly you can see how each and every move relates to one another.

It took awhile for him to get his strength back, and he kept building on that late in the season. Im just saying, evaluating them now, you can say they're 100% - you could not say that this time last season

Edit: great post on Nylander vs Virtanen btw. Jus saw that

  7. Edit: Sorry....I had him at 15...was going off of memory.

    Sure...

    1) McD

    2) Eichel

    3) Hanifin

    4) Provorov

    5) Strome

    6) Zacha

    7) Marner

    8) Werenski

    9) Rantanen

    10) Crouse

    11) Barzal

    12) Meier

    13) Connor

    14) Chabot

    15) Boeser

    16) Konecny

    17) Svechnikov

    18) Guryanov

    19) Zboril

    20) Eriksson Ek

    21) Merkley

    22) White

    23) DeBrusk

    24) Roy

    25) Harkins

    26) Bittner

    27) Samsonov

    28) Sprong

    29) Beauvillier

    30) Meloche

Good list. Stoked my Devils and Canucks got Zacha and Boeser respectively. Although I haven't made a list, I think I'd have both around the same spots. Wasn't crazy about the defensemen, and Boeser was one of the best wingers

  8. I was expecting him not to bail out every time a hit was coming and not act like the puck was a live grenade if it went near the boards.

Lost a lot of respect for the guy.

He was one of those guys who actually played hard in the last game. Yes, he was -2, but he got a goal. Our defence just messed things up, and Miller wasn't himself. He showed he could score big goals all last season.

  9. Vrbata is a good support player, but he's not a guy who can carry the load offensively like we expected him to do here.

It's pretty easy to shut a team down when they only have a few offensive threats. He still led the team in points along with the Sedins (4 PTS in 6 GP).

Adding him to an already strong top 6 would be a good move for any team looking for more scoring. He should definitely command a 1st round pick at the deadline if Benning can close a deal.

Yeah he wasn't that bad. Got 4 points. Was just disappointing.

I'd like to keep Vrbata, but... he did jus turn 34.

  10. Boeser looks good on the rush and in the cycle, and his shot is pretty hard and accurate. Excited about him. I think he ranked higher on teams' lists than central scouting because he was one of the best RWers, and the Dmen went a bit later. At the very least, we know that he was one of the 4 or 5 guys we targeted for our spot.
