@PunjabiCanucks If we make no player changes as you suggest and merely remain Cap compliant will we win a cup?
I understand and appreciate what your saying, but keeping status quo in my opinion wont lead to a cup. Your better off selling high on assets and continuously improving your young core pieces while stockpiling your draft/prospect system. Prime example is Tampa.
We may be cap complaint going forward, but that doesn't make us better.

People can complain all they want lol Still got my answer

Without moving some major money out in Larsson or Myers (and even if one is moved) it will be hard to fit these three within the cap. In my opinion one of Miller, Boeser or Horvat will need to be moved in order to stay cap compliant. Add in Pettersson raise etc. money gets even tighter.

Now, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound power forward who is committed to play college hockey at Clarkson, Gardner has instantly been a big-time difference-maker for the Warriors.
On Thursday night in East Grand Forks, Gardner scored two goals and set up two more as the Warriors beat the Green Wave 6-3 in a rematch of the last three Section 8A boys championships.
"He moves so well for being a big guy," Warroad coach Jay Hardwick said. "He's tough to handle. When he comes down at full speed, it's pretty scary. I think when he gets going, he's tough to stop."

Would be hard to fit his cap hit this year. Plus your competing with a lot of other teams who'd love malkin

Pure speculation from Sat. No reliable source here

Hogz for Poolparty?
Not a chance for me. Hogz had a slower sophomore year. Would be hard to replace his compete and offensive talent

I suspect the 2nd rnd pick was more enticing given hes still a longshot at this point
Agreed, he' wont develop into the player they hoped he would so take the second and either trade up in the 1st and take another swing.
His trade value is likely a third at best so why not recoup a 2nd

Savoie and then Lamoureux or Fisher in the third round if they're there.

No one is giving us anything of value for boeser. Myers should stay. He gets treated like edler on these boards but he has value to the team. Poolman absolutely blows. You basically iced a dcore with 3 dmen that play small and are subpar defensively.
I dont mind the offense, but your dcore looks horrendous.
The D core isn't a quick fix. Ideally we build up some prospects and fill the position internally.
Boeser definitely has value, saying he doesn't is ridiculous. I thought Myers played well this year, that said he is heavily overpaid because of his past offensive production and id rather pay that sort of money elsewhere and fill the spot with guys like Schenn who play physical and solid defensively.
Poolman has the potential to step up next year and his contract makes hime somewhat un-tradeable so Id keep him as a #6 guy. Another true top 4 RD is needed but we dont have the cap or trade pieces to get one thats ready right now, which is why we need to trade for quality prospects using our slight excess of top 9 wingers.

Hogz-Pettersson-Podz
Miller-Horvat-Garland
Pearson-Dickinson-Karlsson/UFA
Highmore-Lammikko-Lockwood
Hughes-Schenn
Larsson-Dermott
Rathbone-Poolman
Boeser for Turcotte and Faber.
Myers for 2nd
Boeser and Myers traded to free up cap room and gain valuable assets.
Wouldn't say no to Pearson or Dickinson trades but doubt there are trade options that don't cost us. Doesnt make sense to buy them out at this point so Id play them for now or waive them.

How about Boeser straight up for Clarke? Id consider it but would want a touch more ideally
-
Ouch, that seems low

I like him too, but coach BB doesn't. That's what matters.
I think he's just giving him the young player treatment. Not just gifting him time. making him work for it

Could be just a trade to get depth but interesting. Could mean one of their younger RD gets moved

William Lockwood scored his ninth goal of the season and was a plus-1 rating last night. He has a goal and an assist in his last three games.
Call him up. Give him Mottes spot and see what he can do. Love his compete

What a release.
That was a stunning shot. To change the angle, pull it around the stick and still just rip it! Kids got a future in the Pros! Heres hoping his development keeps progressing

I'm wondering if Dermott plays well and it's a really good fit, the Canucks maybe try to move OEL in the summer? The left side could eventually be:
Hughes
Dermott
Rathbone
Pretty small LD side. IF Dermott plays really well and consistently I could see Rathbone get trade for a RD or skilled winger

We aren't a playoff team. Trade some plugs

Canucks and Cap Problems?
in Canucks Talk

Currently yes, but thats easily remedied for most teams. Im just saying being cap compliant doesn't make one a good enough team to win a cup
