  1. If I’m a betting man I say if we land Livingston out of College that we don’t use our 1st on a Dman and wait for the Isles pick to see what lands near us (Reinbacher, ASP, Simashev etc) and take a Dman or top Goalie with our 2nd.

Im not against anyone management chooses in the top 7 as it’s hard to mess it up including Reinbacher in there. Top 4 along with Smith and Benson, if Mitchkov falls you throw a jersey on stage from your seat with his name on the back to call dibs.

  2. Michkov goes second overall if he’s from anywhere but Russia. If he’s there at 4th you trade up to get there if you have too. Franchise players don’t grow on trees and the only way to acquire them is through the draft. Reinbacher is another guy you try and get to with the Isles pick or if we draft 8th or higher with our own pick.

A franchise player and a top RHD bluechip Prospect is sitting there for the taking for us, we need to capitalize on this draft and go for it this year.

Getting into the top 3 is the dream but I’m going to simmer down on that expectation until after the draft lottery. Too many games left to play and some guys could still jump into tiers with strong playoff performances.

  3. His rights are owned by the Vancouver Giants and him coming over is a no brainer to train with our development staff out here as well. Too many resources out here for this to not happen.

He needs confidence more than anything and playing in the sun should do that for him and another World Juniors.

  4. Everything in life when it comes to real estate or player contracts comes down to comparable’s. You don’t talk to an agent or negotiate a price without comparable’s. Hintz just recently got the same contract and that was a comparable for Horvat’s agent. Your House goes up for sale and it’s priced according to what the house 4 doors over sold for and then you add square footage and recent work done.

The market dictates what the price is, for Bo a pending UFA with no  contract negotiation rights was a 1st from a non playoff team, their top Prospects and a young player who still has potential to improve. The market required us to take back $4.15 million and retain 25% of $5.5 million in order to facilitate the trade.

Im betting if we handed other teams negotiating rights there would have been less of a return due to people backing out of the bidding war, same as selling your House, you don’t tell them what your other offer is. I would even argue Lou Lam would have backed out if he knew the number it ended up being in the end, people were bashing this philosophy big time.

  5. The way I look at it is that after next year we saved $8.5 million a year. Beau the player we received will be off the books and Attu Ratty will be the 3rd line Center on a ELC contract. That will leave us with an additional $7.5 million in Cap space to add a solid defence partner for Hughes and a 1st round pick that could turn into anything (23 top 12 protected 24 unprotected)

We just did the best possible thing for where we are as a franchise and I’m here for it. I look forward to more moves towards the deadline and draft day. I can’t empathize enough how important it is to acquire more draft picks and Cap space in order to rebuild the team.

You can literally do anything in the NHL salary Cap world with draft capital and Cap space. Good player can be had for less and bad players can be had for more, this is how we obtain the most assets possible while rebuilding the team and drafting high.

    Bravo Gentleman

  6. I hope we take back a pending UFA bad contract with our newly acquired LTIR space along with a 1st for Schenn.

If we take back a 3 million dollar Cap dump we should be able to leverage the return on a Schenn trade as he only makes $800k, his value should already be a 2nd so I can see it being possible to a contender so they can add another piece.

Gotta wonder what the plan is now with that 7+ million dollars this team had earmarked for Bo.

This management clearly had a plan to fit him in if he had accepted their last offer. So do they really just sit on that money? This organization has never been one to do that in past.

I wonder what targets they’d look at in free agency. You know they’re gonna spend.

It’s spoken for with Kuzmenko at $5.5 and our new Beau at $4.15… at least for next season. After the Kuzmenko extension it’s really like an additional $2 million saved on the money Horvat was offered.

The only way this gets fixed is if we move out Boeser, Garland, Myers, OEL, Demko, Miller. At least 2 of those contracts and preferably 3-4 of them.

  8. I think for once the management team walked the walk instead of talked the talk and players will notice that they will make changes. This should help players take more accountability rather than look to the next game. No way Boeser, Garland, Miller, Myers don’t try and perform better if they want to be here, the whole culture just changed in one move.

Horvat hasn’t signed anything yet and he is looking to get paid, you need to find a dance partner in order to cash in, we did and it’s done. Imaging Horvat got hurt or we sat him out instead?

Get your return and rip the bandaid off.

    Next season, maybe

    Kuzmenko - Pettersson (A) - Mikheyev

    Beauvillier - Miller (A) - ?

    Podkolzin - ? - Studnicka

    Joshua - Lazar - Lockwood

    Raty

    Hughes - ?

    OEL (A) - ?

    Dermott - Bear

    Stillman

    Demko

    ?

after Boeser, Garland, Schenn, Myers, Rathbone and possibly Hoglander are traded. They might sign a UFA or two as well.

Of course, putting Bedard or Fantilli in that #3C spot would sure be nice too.

Attu Raty says hello for 3C

I don't really see him resigning with the Islanders, honestly.
I think it would have been more likely he'd resign with Boston, Detroit, or New Jersey.
If we move out enough cap, there's a good chance he's just a rental and resigns with us in the offseason.

We need to clear Cap and I bet we are trying. Boeser, Garland, Myers etc

  11. What if Bo misses Vancouver after this move and decides his best move is to come back with his family. He is a UFA Canuck nation where for the most part he was handed the keys to the city.

Say he resigns here we just lost Bo for 40 games and gained all these assets. I’m sure his wife loves it here and has friends, this is not out of the question if we move money out and offer him what he wants.

We already have the inside edge and his heart I’m sure. Plus these assets. At this current time it wasn’t possible but by July 1st it’s still a possibility.

He will get the C again and no doubt that will be part of the negotiation, wait until the off-season as it is legal to do so.

If you really think about it, this is a VERY risky trade for the Islanders.  If they miss the playoffs this year and keep the pick, and if BO doesn't re-sign with them, and if they miss the playoffs next year, and if the Canucks win the lottery next year with the Islanders pick, then it's possible the Islanders would have traded Aatu Raty PLUS the #1 overall pick in 2024 for 2 1/2 months of BO...

Exactly. We also saved Cap space going forward to address the defence. If it works out to Raty, 1st, Beaulliver and Severson it’s a great move.

  13. Long story short nobody knows what was offered for Horvat, we got rebuilding pieces and a guy who is young enough to flourish and become another asset towards the pieces we obtained.

We saved Cap space and moved towards a rebuild all in one move, if we get the pick this year it’s great. If it moves over to next year we saw the Panthers this year and we picked a team that is probably worse on paper.
