  1. Interesting we just had 3 elite Centres with Petey, Miller, Horvat and couldn’t overcome our terrible defence. Let’s fix up the Defence starting this year as getting a top 4 Dman outside of the top 10 is a success, no matter who is on board.

    Reinbacher

    Willander

    ASP

    Simashev

All of these guys are quality Dmen that project to fill a role in the top 4 and with proper development could be top 2.

Time to start drafting Dmen (unless Mitchkov falls)

    1. CHI - Bedard

    3. CBJ - Smith

    4. SJ - Carlsson

    5. MTL - Dvorsky

    6. ARI - Michkov

    7. PHI - Leonard

    8. WAS - Moore (damn)

    9. DET - Willander (damn)

    10. STL - Danielson (damn)

    11. VAN - Barlow

You’d be upset with Reinbacher? 100% he’d be our guy and not Barlow.

I think management's plan is being competitive with OEL. It makes no sense to wait until OEL is done.

I know what their goal is, but how are they going to ice the lineup they want with no Cap space and such little high end assets?

  4. Defensively responsible two-way players is what this team needs. Guys who can play special teams and preferably both is lacking in the organization.

Willander, Simashev, Reinbacher, Moore, Danielson would be my targets at this point. All 5 are dual threats to play on the PP and PK and all 5 play a premium position. Both Centre's listed are decent at faceoffs and I’d probably lean towards Danielson due to him having more size and a RHS. I’d take the two RHD’s before Simashev due to rarity of position and overall asset value.

we will 100% get the chance at probably 2 or maybe even 3 of them.

    Lets gooooooo!

Who do you see being our 2C next season if they trade Miller?

I think we tread water next season due to our Salary Cap issues regardless of who plays 2C. I imagine we give Raty some reps and I’d be ok with putting Podkolzin at Center as an experiment. I don’t see us being competitive until the OEL contract is off the books.

  6. I’m curious if they end up liking a couple players and ones around with a potential Miller trade does that make them feel more comfortable with a 1st round pick as part of the return?

We all know the Rumours with Miller to

Pittsburgh, and I know management has changed over but being confident in your scouting and giving yourself some Cap space could be a possibility.

Devils will have only a 2-3 million left in cap space after they sign all their RFA and ufa in Graves. And already traded Severson cause they know there is no way to fit him under the cap. Here is a link to devils next year done by some poster after signing their RFA and graves

    https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4272739

Severson was let go for last years 2nd overall pick Simon Nemec to join the team. Luke Hughes will play full time next year and can replace Graves as well. All they need to do is fill out their bottom pair and they’ve probably saved around $10.25 in cap space while upgrading their second pair or at least break even.

  8. If one of Michkov, Benson, Leonard, Dvorsky, Reinbacher is there at 11 I’m keeping the pick and choosing whoever is left out of them. If they are all taken I’m ok trading back (in the top 20) and adding a 2nd round pick and maybe a salary dump like the rumoured Chicago trade and taking whoever is there out of Sale, Simashev, Willander, Wood, Moore, ASP, Danielson, Perrault and consider the draft a huge success.

if I traded back and my second tier of players are gone I’d look to another trade back scenario but I believe one of them should be there.

Who should the Canucks pick if both were available?  Dvorsky or Reinbacher.

At that point you jump for Joy as we would be taking one or the other 100% and both are organizational needs/BPA for position. I’d Probably go Reinbacher as I think he’s the best Dman in the draft and a rare RHD with size and mobility.

This is a decent listen, talk about a lot of the players mentioned here.

    https://open.spotify.com/episode/6wLTU20KIZu4020kAQcMPJ?si=PWLYGsZVQvqE81AhbDOWiAof the notables:

    Wood over Barlow

    Reinbacher over ASP

Danielson over Yager ( high on Danielson)

    Wallinder over Simashev

    Perrault over Cristall

I agree with this list. I’d probably put Moore over Danielson as well.

I would be ok with Sale. I think it would be consistent in terms of showing that PA is drafting in a certain direction. Barlow Leonard Wood these guys are complementary. They would mesh well with our core and fill an organizational hole. Sale on the other hand has the potential to be a franchise player and flip the script. Like Smith or Michkov.

It comes down to me how much does PA want to Rebuild or Re tool. How much faith does he have in this core? If he's rebuilding I love the Sale pick if he's re tooling I don't like it as much.

So why wouldn’t you want the franchise guy every time in a rebuild or re-tool?

  12. With Kravtsov ultimately going the same route Michkov is projected to go (3 years Russia) try NHL and have the option to go back or never even come over, I’d be ok passing. He’s a 5’9 winger with as much talent in the world and probably top 2 on skill itself, but we are a very small team as is and need to inject some size into the lineup.

It’s unfortunate that most of the top end players in the draft projected around our pick are under 6’0. I’m opening up to a Barlow or Wood despite being wingers and Willander over ASP due to having the ability to play a bigger game, we are such an easy team to play against.

Dvorsky and Danielson, one should be available and either of them would be great picks at 11

I’d add Moore to that bunch and on Defence I’m all aboard the Willander train. This projection is very similar to Seider and they have the same type of skill sets. Size, skating, physical, puck skills. He’s very defensively responsible as well and of course he’s Swedish.

I could see him project as a Ohlund with better skating.

  14. I feel like ASP has the bigger bust factor compared to Willander and I’d actually be pretty stoked at this point if we went with Willander.

I’ve seen lots of smaller offensively gifted Dmen bust and in redrafts seen the steady eddy jump up or hold much more value 3 years later.

Either or I’m trusting the scouting staff, almost everyone in management has a background in scouting in either Pro or Amateur.

Im also handing one of our 3rd round picks to Ian Clark and say take your pick of what’s available.

They need C more than they need Dmen

How can you argue that? They have Raty in the System now and I don’t really see anyone on Defence. They do need both but you can’t say they need one over the other.

  16. Willander if he’s the pick I’m not batting an eye! He’s like a Braiden Schneider pick that just doesn’t get moved short of an overpayment. RHD are the hardest assets to acquire and take the most time to develop and it looks like we will have a choice out of the top 3 best ones in the draft.

    1.Reinbacher

    2. ASP

    3. Willander.

Take one and consider your day 1 a success.

Quentin Musty. Big mean nasty guy who finished one point below Barlow for the OHL in points for draft eligibles in 6 less games.

Looks like him and Barlow are two guys who profile into a heavier game, from scout’s consensus I’d probably lean more Barlow. I think we need more Barlow then Sale if we go that route.

  18. Is there anyone who projects to be a Tom Wilson in this draft? I’d argue that is one of our biggest needs in order to insulate our star players. We need some size and truculence to go to war with as I don’t see us doing well in a 7 game series. I’d argue Toronto just went through the same issue.

So many options for the Canucks here.  Let's not draft for the needs we have right now. Sure we want to get more rhd in our pipeline but not at the cost of reaching with an 11th overall pick.  An 11th overall pick is like a top 5 pick in any other draft. Yeah, this draft is that good.  By the time our pick is ready we might not need a rhd. Hronek and to be honest I think Woo is going to pop off next year. Check me but he (Woo) scored like 16 points in his last 25 games. He rekindled his scoring touch and still has his physical gnarl.  And it's all attributed to our new development staff.  I like Bear, maybe not a top 4 but pushing towards that.  The Canucks need high end talent at the Centre possition and the LW as well, identify that special thing that can't be taught.  My personal choices would be Wood, Cristall, (of course Benson but unlikely), Stenberg, Sale and Shimishev. All those picks have something you can't teach.  With our development staff they can produce stars if they're willing to put in the work.

I have a feeling you replied to the wrong post as not one single Dman was discussed. I suggested in that scenario we go for Moore.
