I’d love that even though management has other plans for whatever reason, the two rumoured guys clashing with one another in the room was Horvat and Miller. You ship them both out for futures and create a better culture.
This draft alone should land us at least a solid second line Center or first line 1a 1b with Pettersson. We are very lucky that this is the draft we are tanking in. If we manage to get into the top 3 we are getting another franchise Center, exactly what JR and Allvin won with in Pittsburg along with a very skilled offensive dman in Crosby, Malkin, Letang.
We are only one piece away from that build and the draft lottery this year is HUGE for this franchise.

Canucks have been reported to be super tight lipped right now due to a mole and leaks, no way he goes for a 3rd as a second was offered last year and we turned it down, he’s having a way better year this year.

I agree and depending how far Reinbacher climbs up the rankings we still might be leaving with both. That would be the 2 best Den in the draft and both RHD.
Incredible if you ask me, 3 years from now their value would be tremendous due to position and Blue Chip.

Management has proven they don’t care what anyone but they or the team thinks. Miller is signed for the next 7 years and will 100% be the next Captain regardless if we like that or not. Tocchet was brought in after management knew they would be moving Horvat for sure so he can “harness” him, it’s to help change his image and give him the C.
You knew one day in the bubble watching him call out the starting lineup that he was going to be leading this team at some point, he keeps players accountable and would drop them if needed to send a message to the team. This is exactly what the Rangers did with Trouba as he wasn’t known for the best attitude either, see Winnipeg for details.

Anyone advocating for Foote, if we offered Tampa the Second we end up trading Schenn for they would take that and run. There is a reason for that as draft capital is worth its weight in gold and especially in the top 2 rounds. This draft in particular is supposed to have tons of Dmen go in the 2nd and it could also be used to trade down if we see a player sitting there with our pick or the Isles pick. With us having 2 first round picks potentially having 2 seconds could be humongous towards securing a Mitchkov/Smith and Reinbacher.

Ottawa gave up a 2023 second round pick this year and we gave up a 2024 second in the Dickinson trade, I’m sure it cost us a round to defer the pick to next year as we don’t have a 3rd this year.

I don’t think Toronto wants to give up those assets or have them left after the ROR deal. Tyler Myers on the other hand goes for cheap and fills the Muzzin hole perfectly if that’s the route they choose.

No, he’s being exposed because he can’t pivot or skate well enough to keep up, Luke Schenn looks like Hughes compared to him. He’s got Juolevi syndrome and there is no cure for that unfortunately.

At this point Adam has already taught Cal Foote everything he knows so coaching him will do nothing as he’s coached him his whole life. If Foote isn’t a regular by now I don’t think he ever will be as his skating doesn’t allow him to adapt very much. He’s the type that would get burned like Stillman and be a scapegoat here, he’s another true #7 Dman like Burroughs.

The trade happened with 30% of the season left to play. If a team was all season at 82.5M at the time of the trade - they've already used up 70% of 82.5M and only have 30% of 82.5M left. They can't be pro-rating his cap hit and not pro-rating their cap space. The Canucks are in LTIR so it's akin to them already having used up 70% of their available cap space for the season.
CapFriendly prefers to talk in full cap hits. So they already factor in the pro-rata when they show deadline cap space. It's the amounts of full cap hits that can be added for the team to remain cap compliant at the end of the season.
Yeah maybe I’m wrong. I understand deals get done at full Cap hit but I was going by a tweet that broke it down. In Minnesota’s case they only retained 25%

No our Cap space is not Pro rated that is what we have. We have $7.6 million. The only thing Pro rated is the contracts you trade for. If we get Lucic at $2.33 that leaves us with $5.27 million in Cap space left.

It depends on the deal to be honest. If you take on Lucic that’s 7 million in cap ($2.33 pro rated) and you should get a 2nd I’d think at least. If you are a middle man and only help retaining half of $5 million I’d think a 2rd maybe again? I guess it all depends on how desperate the other team is to add the player, no contenders can do it by themselves without a team like us.
As of today with the $7.6 we have it’s basically the same as $22.8 million worth of contracts at the beginning of the season. We could take Marner and Matthews without retention from the leafs with the $7.6 we have.
That is an insane amount to have considering we are a Cap team. To me the value with pick return is supply and demand,

I would rather have 1 first rounder rather than 4 x 4th rounders
So if a team has 27 games left that is roughly 1/3 of the season left of an 82 game schedule. So if a player that makes 6 million like Tyler Myers for example has already played 2/3 of the season his contract now is only worth $2 million pro rated. By the trade deadline 1/4 of the season will only be left, that means 3/4 of his salery has been paid and Myers Cap to take on at the deadline is $1.5 million.

It was $600k in “Cap space” but only $75k in salary owed dollars. Just call it $600k for a 4th in 2025.
The $2million was pro rated

$10 million dollar Toews at 50% retained going to Winnipeg for example puts his Cap at $5 million, if we also retain 50% for Winnipeg ($2.5) it put Toews Cap hit at $2.5 and then you pro rate it.
Lucic you just trade for straight up for Picks, what do you not understand here Shooter?

We Only have 2 retention spots and a 4th in 2025 was not worth one of them. See my post above for even better targets and bigger returns.

I think Boeser goes in the offseason with all our newfound Cap money and only 2 retention spots left. I see us taking a bad contract like Lucic and being part of a Kane or Toews trade to help with money.
You can then use one of next years retention spots to work out a Boeser deal and utilize this situation the best.

I really hope we are Cap facilitators on players like Kane, Toews, Lucic etc with our last two retention spots and use one of next years on a Boeser trade in the offseason, maybe 2 with Myers.

You offer him the two year and let him play to burn a year off the ELC. You offer him guaranteed playing time and opportunity (PP2, PK) with Hughes and roll out the red carpet. You can’t lose the opportunity to find out if he’s a player or not at the next level.

Poor Boeser man, this has been such a slow and painful situation for a player who knows he’s a sitting duck. It’s like the player version of Boudreau with the slow painful exit.
