Well if he’s our BPA on our draft board it makes sense.

we need the best asset possible.

and if that’s him that’s him. And if he doesn’t fit our team build he’d be an incredibly valuable trade chip

    RHD PUCK MOVERS are valuable

Three Norris trophy nominees this year are EK/Makar/Fox who were all known for their offensive game and developed the defensive side through coaching and experience. All three are smaller RHS Dmen as well.

Colorado just won a Cup with Makar, Girard, Toews, Byram, Manson, EJ and that’s not a very big defensive core, they play a puck possession transition game who has the puck more than the other team in the other zone.

Hughes, Hronek , ASP would allow us to add three Big Defensive Dmen to flank them and are usually cheaper to acquire via free agency or trade.

Nothing wrong if ASP is the pick.

  2. Chi: Bedard

    Ana: Fantilli

    Cbj: Carlsson

    SJS: Michkov

    MTL: Smith

    Ari: Reinbacher

    Phi: Leonard

    Wash: Benson

    Det: Dvorsky

    STL: ASP

    VAN………..

I can see it shaking out that way and to me that is worst case scenario. At that point I think I go with Moore due to

position and floor. Wood, Barlow, Sale, Perrault are all great players but they are either wingers or have some sort of similarities (Raty/Wood due to them hopefully correcting their skating or playing Centre)

I think Moore playing with speed and up the middle could breakout when removed from the shadow of the top line he had in front of him. I see similar upside with Dvorsky and Moore but I’d take Dvorsky if it was between the two and available.

I mean, I can't speak for everyone else here, but I think if we manage to use the 11th pick to grab any one of Reinbacher/ Dvorsky/ ASP/ Leonard that has to be considered a huge win for the team, right?

It's not too often that you can get players with that calibre of pre-draft resumè at 11 and I think at least 1 of them will be available there.

I’m fine with all of these guy. I prefer guys that play with either pace or defensive abilities over anything else. I can see management liking Sale as he’s listed as 6’3 and a very skill guy.

No, I don't think Boeser would be around if Wood is here.  I could live with Raty and Wood if you surround them with faster players.  No every player needs to be a speed demon.  Size matters in the playoffs.  Vegas doesn't have elite skating forwards either.

I don’t think we are in a spot where we can draft a player who won’t be bluechip and have to trust the scouting staff and consensus around the Hockey world. Ultimately it comes down to the 10 guys picked in front of us and whoever is left to chose from. All I know now is almost everyone has played their last game of the year already and now the scouting combine is the next platform to asses these guys before it’s time to have our final rankings. I do agree drafting a Centre or Dman should be the priority for us and also think they hold the most value from an asset point of view.

Wood, Dvorsky, Reinbacher, Moore, ASP, Benson, Leonard, Michkov, Smith, Sale, Perrault, Barlow outside of the big 3 all have Bluechip written all over them and a couple will be available. This draft is very unpredictable and I imagine it’s the wingers who end up falling on draft day.

Kent Johnson was 18 in his first year in the NCAA.  He had 101 points in the BCHL as a 17 year old.  Matthew Wood had 85 points in the BCHL as a 16 year old.  Big difference.  Wood will only be 18 next year heading into his second year in the NCAA.  He could win the Hobey Baker award as an 18-year-old, similar to Adam Fantilli.

I'm hoping they play him at centre next season to see what he can do up the middle.  He reminds me of Tage Thompson.  Wood is huge but has silky mitts.  His hands are soft as butter.  Dude is gonna be a beast of a power forward once he improves his skating.  He will be the steal of the 2023 draft for whoever takes him, similar to Tage who went 26th and was even traded before he could even show his stuff...

Can you have a team with Raty, Wood on it and even possibly Boeser? We would hands down be one of the slowest teams in the league.

We have a huge need for a defenceman who can't play defence?  Drafting that pylon would be an unmitigated disaster, but might at least be the catalyst to help get rid of Rutherford.

He’s one of the best 4 way skaters in the draft and a RHD. He plays all situations and was playing in the men’s league this year in the SHL. He was the best Dman for Sweden at the U20 and U18 tournaments. At 11th overall you take him and run if available while filling a massive organizational need and probably BPA at the same time.

  7. I don’t see a scenario where if Wood is available we can draft him with Raty projected to make the team. The skating is the biggest issue and if we have issues with Boeser he looks like Mason Raymond compared to those guys. ASP, Moore are in the tier that play with pace and both positional need. Assuming Reinbacher is gone.

ASP is the best 200 foot D man in the draft. He’s actually quite good defensively. We should pick the BPA. Reinbacher is very good too. He might be there for us. And he’s a lot bigger than ASP.

I think one of those two players are no brainers for this organization.

Buying out OEL doesn't make sense sooner than later, for sure. We're better off just eating his contract for a few more years, it's not like we're contenders at the moment.

I'd sooner give away Myers, Garland, or Beauvillier away for free. Hoping we use our 1st on a D or center, though I'd prefer a center who's good enough to be picked with a near top 10 pick.

I don't believe we're good enough as an organization to be giving up two 1st round picks, our prospect pool needs a serious boost at both center and D.

We won’t be trading the pick this year as we already did that to improve the roster along with our second rounder. You can not be paying a OEL buyout for another 8 years, that will not be happening this offseason. I can see Sale being the target if he falls out of the top 10 and ASP is gone, he’s a left hand shot and has one of the best skill sets in the draft. Lekkerimaki is a RHS and those two could flank either Pettersson or Miller (both will probably be here long term)

I think in managements eyes they have their top 2 Centers for the next 7 years, they will look to support them with cheaper options.

  10. You know the draft philosophy as documented in behind the scenes is the players with the most skill. I think Sale will end up being the player we choose after the other options are off the table. I don’t see Reinbacher, Leonard, Smith, Benson, Dvorsky, Mitchkov, ASP making it out of the top 10. Wood doesn’t have the skill profile and Moore has seemed to drop down a lot of list’s lately.

  11. With Reinbacher, Lindstein, Willander, ASP I’m starting to see a path where we draft a Dman or with Dvorsky, Moore a 2-way Center who can play behind Pettersson who is also one of the better defensive Centers in the league.

Im glad the crowd of finishing 11th overall has calmed down now that it seems like there is around 15 guys who could go top 10 this year. I do not see a scenario where we don’t draft a Dman or Center this draft as it has been documented that is what they have wanted in return for their big guns (Horvat, Miller) in a trade.

Dvorsky, Moore, Reinbacher are my 3 targets and if one is there you take it and run. Prioritize RHD and at this point I’d take Dvorsky over Moore but ok if the scouting staff goes for the speed element.

Exciting times this year and we still have a shot in the draft lottery.

For everyone who was saying it doesn’t matter if we pick at 8 or 11 and that we’ll be able to take Reinbacher, good luck.

My guess is he’ll be long gone when we pick at 12 after falling back one spot.

So you’re saying a team with even less odds is going to pass us so we drop a spot? We should have won some more games then!

Well, Canucks have a 3% chance at Bedard. Seems doubtful they'll get into the Top 3, and as usual, might even get bumped back a couple of spots.

    Thinking they'll pick at #12.

Players I could see being there are:

    Sale

    Barlow

    Leonard

    Yager

    Danielson

IMO, Reinbacher and ASP will be gone by #12.  I think they might try to sign a UFA D, and they might be hoping Johansson, Kudryavtsev, Hirose and McWard can take another step next year. Battle for a spot or two.

If the Canucks get bumped back that means the 12,13,14,15,16 seed has won the lottery. That would also mean our late season win streak was the best case scenario for the team.

credit has to be given to whoever brought him up as a player the Canucks should sign. Was it GM Alvin...he had more free time to scout games as an AGM in Pit compared to now so wonder if he is behind it or someone else in the management or scouting department. He has been surprising good, done far more than any of us expected he would and now he is flourishing as a PKer for us too!

It was Ryan Johnson from the lockout when Van and STL shared an affiliation together. He was in the ST Louis system.

  15. Kuzmenko with the Goal tonight couldn’t complete a pass all night and had a rough game. Hronek looked solid and you can see he has more to give, it will be nice to have a heavy point shot again.

Garland is playing excellent under Tocchet and I don’t see him going anywhere in the offseason now.

The team looks happy and like they are having fun again, for everyone complaining about the wins it’s because of the easy schedule since Tocchet took over.
