This team wouldn’t be a playoff team without a couple of improvements to the defense. Adding a forward as talented as Bedard wouldn’t magically make the defense corps better. That needs to be rectified regardless of who’s drafted.

Hronek hasn’t even played a game yet for us and without a doubt he improves our backend. If we add a Gavrikov type and trade Myers we could easily be a team who can compete for the playoffs.

  2. There are pro’s and con’s to winning and losing but anyone questioning if a generational talent like Bedard wouldn’t be a game changer for this team is lost.

McDavid level Prospects don’t come around very often and Bedard being local would be a marketing dream and make the team a lot of money. We would instantly be a playoff team and have the next best player in the league selling out Rogers arena full of Bedard jerseys.

I like what Tocchet has done with the teams identity and I’m happy Demko looks to be back on track. Pettersson is turning into that monster 100pt 2-way Selke calibre Center and Hughes is a PPG Dman.

    Good times

  3. Don’t look now but the pick traded as the main piece was the Islander pick and they are 10-3-3 since the Horvat trade with Barzal out of the lineup. They have the second most points in the NHL since January 27th.

The trade is looking better by the day for a top 4 RHD who is improving every year and controlled as a RFA after his deal.

The narrow minded view is to seek instant gratification in wins now, despite it hurting our chances at long term success.

These games are meaningless. Winning them only hurts our chances at drafting a great player.

It’s a lottery how do you know that? Aren’t we like 7th last? We are literally putting out a AHL defence and have Dries, Kravtsov, Podkolzin, DGuiseppe etc playing in our lineup. That is a team trying to develop and not win but we are playing teams that just aren’t good at all or our big stars are showing up.

What more can they do in your eyes to “tank better”

There's nothing that can be done about how the team ends up performing at certain moments of the season, but people that were on team tank have reason to be upset.

The only saving grace for fans these past 2 seasons was the fact that the players were "smiling again" and "having fun again". Is this pee-wee hockey? They're professional athletes. They get paid millions of dollars to go out and perform. How much do we have to baby them?

Literally the same exact thing happened when bruce boudreau was here.."players smiling", "confidence", "the culture is better". All that good stuff.

    Deja Vu?

Look at what resulted the following season. Where did all the positive vibes go?

Every team goes through injuries. Teams with enough proper depth are able to somewhat maintain their pace rather than fall off a cliff like us. From making the playoffs to bottom 5? And we're up against the cap? That should tell you more than enough.

Why do you think that in a year when there's a kid from North Vancouver who's literally broken McDavid records that fans wouldn't be at least a little upset it's looking more and more like that won't happen?

In a year when your defence has literally fallen apart, your season is lost, your franchise has been ridiculed throughout the league because of the handling of your (ex) coach, and you were forced to trade your captain because of cap issues?

But, yay when 100% healthy we're a potential borderline wildcard competing team!

We're not gonna make the playoffs and we're hurting our draft stock but let's have those good vibes all around like when BB was here.

Then wait until the offseason, probably not get a favourable schedule like we always do, and give up on the coach again! We can just blame it all on the early road schedule and injuries all over right?

I think you would be best cheering for another team. If you think we were going to get Bedard even at our lowest point over Columbus or Chicago you’re dead wrong if we do then players want out contract or not.

Sounds like you need a dose of reality and that you’re more of the problem than the solution. The thought of you losing your cool the rest of the season when we win more games actually gives me a great deal of pleasure so enjoy being miserable my dude or dudette.

  6. Everyone upset needs to just look at the schedule. We started the season on the road forever and it’s a very favourable one from here on out.

We will win more than lose and it’s nice to see the guys look like they are having some fun again, you see more smiles than broken sticks and eyes rolling. It looks like the culture is better and guys can just play and relax now that the TDL has come and gone.

We are dressing a lot of AHL players and they are filling in well, it’s a good thing and it looks like we might have some young depth on the team and in the system that can play NHL minutes.

Emrace it as everyone thought we were a team competing for a wildcard spot, bottom 5 when our stars are healthy just wasn’t going to happen.

  7. A team with Pettersson, Hughes and I’ll include Demko we are lucky to get a top 8-10 pick. Silovs looks like the real deal at 21 as well. It’s always been a retool situation and that’s been stated prior.

we have our 1st and no doubt we have a clue and get a 2nd for Boeser or Garland in a trade. Hronek is a great bet and give the dude a chance before he’s criticized.

Tocchet system is what the team needs believe it or not and he seems like a decent coach for the bunch.

Goaltending is definitely the difference between a top 5 pick and top 11

  8. I like the swing on this one, especially with what we gave up in order to do so, trade is great. We are a very soft team and easy to play against and this trade only makes us softer if he ends up on the team and finds his way. We need to start acquiring some toughness and snarl in order to protect all these young soft talented players, especially if we are moving Schenn. I think the team could use a Josh Anderson type forward or Jeanott or even both along with a big mean dman clearing the crease like Parayko.

Lekkerimaki, Kravtsov, Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser, Garland, Hoglander, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev are all soft or small and far from intimidating. We need to inject a Tom Wilson type presence into our lineup or draft a few big boys that play a heavy game.

  9. We are just driving up the value by letting other teams make offers and playing them against each other. They have obviously heard what they like by sitting him out and the team is also willing to take a contract dump.

I will add that we do need his toughness and leadership in the lineup as he has 10 fighting majors and if we lose him without adding someone we could get rag dolled.

Okay.  I didn't realize so many Canucks fans are still obsessed with acquiring more wingers than what we already have.  I mean, when someone looks at our team, don't they think, "Wow, our problem is that we clearly don't have enough middle six wingers - let's get another one!"

    /s

I look at the player myself and his toughness would be welcomed at any position. We need to add a few guys before next year that can keep other teams honest.

  11. Why don’t professional athletes plan to have babies in their offseason? I know sometimes it’s unplanned but having to leave the team during a playoff drive or critical stretch you’d think that they would plan to have it in the 5 months or so they get off a year.

Kind of baffling if you ask me, by your third child you know what’s up at that point.

I’m not hearing a thing about where schenns going other than a lot of guesstimating on need.

Surely with Muzzin out in TO there is a immediate vacancy..

but what about Edmonton?  Looking to bolster D.?

With the mole in the organization and management being paranoid about it I’m sure nothing is getting leaked and meetings are with a smaller group. I doubt we hear anything other than “reports” of its getting closer but nothing is imminent lol

Sandin-Pellika is an undersied offensive dman who may really struggle defensively in the NHL. Tyson Barrie comparable. We already have an offensive dman in Hughes.

Rather go with Reinbacher and Bonk.

And hopefully we get a little luck and Strbak falls to us in the early 2nd round.

Simashev would be an excellent pick if we ended up with him. He’s big and can skate while playing a defensive game and offensive upside, Sergachev type upside if he puts it together.

I feel like that Russian the next kovalev will fall significantly. Probably a top five talent, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall into the second round

I’ll tell you right now if he’s there at our pick and it’s not top 3 we are taking him. He’s the only other franchisee player in this draft outside of them. We now have 4 Russians with Gonchar on the coaching staff and JR and Allvin won the Cup twice with Malkin being an absolute stud.

We are not afraid of drafting Russians and if you Remember Malkin also stayed back in Russia a couple years after going 2nd overall. Mitchkov is the 2nd best talent in this draft.

  15. A late 2nd round pick gives you a trade chip to trade down a few spots if you like a player and he’s still on the board. I could see a few guys teams love missing day 1 and picks 33-36 could be a hot commodity, or a player still on the board at 10 if the Canucks have the Isles pick at 14.

That late second moves you down into those areas easily or you can trade one of your 2 4th round picks. More draft capital gives you more options on the draft floor and trades.

I’d  do my best to trade that late second with the Isles pick and draft twice in the top 10.
