  1. Hughes has stated that plying the RHS actually opens up more offensive opportunities for himself as a Dman. He should be deployed in that role going forward until he learns the defensive side of things. If Schmidt stays and Hamonic resigns I’d pair them together with OEL and Hughes as our top pair. Myers can play on the third pair and try to flip Juolevi to a team for a shutdown LHD (lots of those around the league)

Rathbone can be the extra Dman in and out of the lineup depending on who we are playing.
Juolevi and Rathbone at this point seem redundant to have both.

  2. I’m just happy as long as Edler is gone as well that my personal 6 worst guys ( Eriksson, Beagle, Rousell, Virtanen, Sutter, Edler) I won’t have to watch this year. That’s unbelievable in a two week period!!!. I actually don’t even know who I dislike on the team anymore other than potential ownership (meddling) or management ( mistakes made in the first place). I’m not a huge fan of the Pearson contract last year after letting Toffoli walk for roughly the same.

  3. I’m sure the Canucks brass are weighing their options prior to Free Agency. Once the top 5 guys go there will be a bigger market for him.
They just acquired OEL and are definitely looking at RHS D, the hardest position to fill in Hockey.
    Podkolzin for Brayden Schneider PLEASE!!!.
I just saw a Instagram post that looked like a sauna with Panarin and Podkolzin together.

Also, go hard for Manson from the Ducks!

  4. I’d explore if we could trade Podkolzin for a RHS D equivalent like Schneider from NY.
There doesn’t seem like a spot to grow into with the acquisition of Garland.

That would be my chip to acquire a young RHD to play with Hughes.

Go after Hakanpaa in free agency pretty hard.
Trade Schmidt and Holtby for cap space to take advantage of teams like Tampa and acquire better value due to the space.

  5. Time to start going all in. We have cleared cap and going forward that was our biggest obstacle. Trade Schmidt and Holtby for picks even if you have to add one to get better ones. Aquire depth through one year cheap contracts and see what sticks, if nothing move on at the deadline for picks.
I think from here on out we are starting to build tradable assets where we can actually acquire picks in trades and Benning will start doing so.
He owes it to his scouting staff and being a former scout probably feels guilty about the lack of quality picks. I’m betting Schmidt and Holtby are still here due to picks being asked in return without retention and are holding out due to supply and demand.

  6. OEL will be wearing a letter. The guy has Olympic, World Championship, World Junior and was a Captain/Assistant of his team for years. He has been touted as our #1 by our GM and will play a huge role.
He probably already has the respect of the Officials around the league as well, so does Bo. Miller has a bit of a radical temper, Petey just stares and rolls his eyes. I’m sure Myers will get the opportunity or Sutter might be back in a 4th line role as reported.
Down the road Petey, Brock and Quinn will probably get the nod along with Bo to be the leaders of the team.

His political views are not the issue, imo.

his past, before going pro are an issue

his past, since becoming a pro are an issue

his political views are a bit of an issue.

Added together, way too many issues.

Well we are in the buisness of icing the best Hockey team possible and are built around a ton of Americans already. I feel our leadership group has it in them to help the young man out. Also knowing this is his last opportunity in the show he maybe matures and just plays the game.

  8. I really see Juolevi benefiting the most from the OEL trade. The perfect mentor who play a relatively same style of game. I really hope he takes him under his wing and Olli listens to the Vet. Would be awesome if Olli still pans out and becomes a top 4 Dman.

Agreed, might mean we have to pay someone to take Roussel or LE from us but with his low salary and high cap hit I think now we can move LE and it not cost us a ton, maybe a 2022 2nd or a prospect and mid round pick. Either way I think it is a MUST that we try to clear that 9m in salary from both those players, frees up a lot of cap space for us to be aggressive like the GM has mentioned and it also brings in news faces that help us transition into a harder team to play against and a more evenly balanced team instead of having cap space wasted in the press box or millions on your 4th line.

Or, we just sit back and play out the season and wait out these bad deals and keep the picks or prospects instead. But the GM likely won't want to take that passive approach considering his job is going to be on the line if we come out flat like last year. The rink will have fans and I hope if we shat the bed they get loud and call for someone to get fired, it is a shock that all we did was let go of the PP coach and retain EVERYONE else...especially after the disasterous previous off season where his attention was on OEL and over paying for back up for 2 years Vs. trusting Demko to be your #1 and bring in a cheaper back up AND then being able to retain Toffolli, but I digress! Now we just have to go and use assets or move out players that will cost us assets to make room for the same improvement this off season...

I couldn’t agree more. OEL is the last thing we need and I’m glad that ship has sailed it seems like because that contract is ugly and we can only hope Benning has learned from the past. Nobody outside of the core should get more than 2-3 years max on term in free agency unless it’s to add to the core like a Seth Jones.
I hope we prioritize in the draft Dmen and Centre's as they retain the most value in a trade if need be and are the hardest pieces to add. If we add a Reinhardt I hope it’s the wait and see approach instead of giving away assets to acquire the player and more assets to afford the player when he already has stated he wants to come home.
RHD should be our biggest target for the next two off-seasons and drafting Centres unless we get lucky with a RHD faller like Clarke.
This year with having a few spots open to protect and the expansion draft I’m hoping we get to exploit teams and pickup a Cernak type or Weager who is defensively responsible and also adds size with skill.
Adding Shaw was a huge grab in my opinion but I agree the leash has been too long on everyone outside of that including management. Bringing in all these green people with minimal experience running a major professional sports organization has to stop after this regime is eventually let go.
Aquilinis are just as much to blame in my opinion and they need to smarten up ASAP.
