Our Defence scares me. I’m disappointed that we didn’t poach a quality Dman before the expansion draft. Had lots of teams scrambling to get assets for something they were afraid of losing. I hope we get a big shutdown guy that plays the body and makes people look over their shoulder. Hate that Myers is scheduled to get a lot of minutes and is our top option for RHD. Zadorov or Hanakapaa would have been great. Graves/Mayfield/Weager/Toews type.

We def bought our selves a new farm team lol.
I kid I love how we signed 3 ACTUAL ! Right side Dman! That’s huge! Guys playing their natural side. Super stoked. Lots of depth on D.. big upgrade on depth. Skilled left side with a tough right side.
when do the big two sign though? I’ve refreshed the Trade and Rumour page so many damn times…
We actually signed four one way contacts to the RSD today with Keeper.

Last year a LOT of Canucks fans wanted to trade Boeser. Tells you about how much stock you should put in their opinions.
I’m very optimistic with the signing. I always loved Tanev and hope he plays like Tanev lite.

By all account I can see this is a bad signing. Listening to Jets fans they have no idea what Benning saw in him. Hopefully there is some untapped potential here and he develops into a number 5 Dman.

Why can’t we just bite the bullet and give up assets for a top RHD. We had the cap to do it and it seems this team is destined to have holes in the RHD for as long as the franchise exists. The only disappointment with creating all this cap.

Part of #worstcrewever
ive seen it firsthand at the OB in White Rock.
The “crew” has lived to see another day -
Needed at least one RHS Center and I’m happy with the price and term. Thought he was older than 32 as well. Great 4th line Center.

Surprised JB managed to talk him down to such a cheap contract to be honest, I know people on these boards want Sutter gone but he still brings a LOT to the table. He is our top penalty killer, one of the best faceoff men in the league, defensive safe and let's not forget, he scored 9 goals in 43 games last year (good for just under a 20-goal pace).
No matter how Green plays it, we've got 2 top offensive lines and 2 great defensive lines. I think Sutter will end up being our 3rd line center based on minutes/numbers, especially if he keeps up that offence, but if Dickinson brings some offence then they'll swap.
It'll be interesting to see which wingers play with which centers though. I'd rather see Dickinson with Motte and Pearson for a bit more offence, and MacEwan and just about anyone play with Sutter, but we'll see loads of different combinations.
I see this more of a thank you from Sutter for overpaying him all those years and not trading him at the deadline last year after he was hit with Covid pretty hard.

I find it funny that we have only really added two players this FA period who have never worn a Canucks jersey at one point. Either Jim has learned or a little gun shy.

Didn’t Barrie re sign with the perennial lottery champs Spoilers ?
Not sure, I haven’t seen anything yet. As of now the Canucks almost have a full page though with trying to fill out an Abbotsford roster lol
-
Not sure about the player so I’m going to reserve judgement. After all these stay at home guys on the right side I’m actually ok if we signed Barrie for one year.

Happy with this deal. 1 year too.

Two years ago he had less term on his contract, and he's still a decent player. Just happens to be way overpaid for what he brings. If I'm a rebuilding team in need of players to fill out a roster and Tampa is willing to ship a first to get rid of Johnson, I'd take it.
Just happened

I think Tampa would be more willing to ship Johnson off for a pick than they would be to cough up anything significant from their roster. If I'm a GM and my team's window is wide open, I'm doing everything I can to hold on to every significant piece of my two time Stanley Cup winning team that I can.
Or, considering it's Tampa, I simply wait for a mysteriously well timed injury to hit so I can put someone on LTIR.
Who’s taking Johnson for a pick? That would have happened 2 years ago

This is the aggressive big bad Benning that we always wanted that shipped off without mecry Seguin for his behaviour issues
No this is a owner willing to back his GM and right the wrong.

Hands down the best offseason of any team. To create 30 million cap off expandable players and gain two huge pieces in the process is insane!!! Garland is already signed as well with that 30 million still available.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!LETS GOOOOOOO!

That would be nice, but I'm pretty sure both Cernak and Serg are untouchable.
How do they shed cap then? Two big salaries have to come off and Killorn already killed that in the Seattle expansion draft. It’s a no brainer in my eyes. One forward and one D will have to go to be cap complainant
-
I’m betting since we want to run 3 scoring lines Tampa is now the target the same way Vancouver was. Great process for Jim to learn from and I see Tyler Johnson coming back with one of Cernak or Sergachev to mentor Podkolzin. Probably will give up very little in return ( maybe the 3rd from the Schmidt trade plus something small) and when Johnson has one or two years left you can flip him. Please be on my same wave length on this one Jim.
-
I wouldn’t worry about this. If Canucks had no cap sure. Teams could bully you. If they do it to you then you do it back at a later date. Relationships are key in the league.

So... we now know what Nate is really like.... when he first joined, he was all smiles and fun... after one tough season, he just wanna get the hell out before his value sinks further after the current deal.... well, he could have sucked it up and vowed to push harder for the team!! Now that's the difference between a loser and a real team player like Captain Bo.... Oh well... can't wait to see him gone!
Agreed. Seemed like the perfect guy and teammate coming in and things said previously. Guy is a home wrecker that mows his lawn at 5am while looking through your windows when you shower.

I hope we run 3 lines this year and pair up two good players each line.
Petey/Bo
Horvat/Garland
Miller/Hoglander
That would allow us to fill out the rest of those lines with Pearson, Podkolzin, Dickinson/Motte.
if we can add one more offensive guy to that group via discount “Tatar” we could really be on to something. That would slide Dickinson, Motte, Sutter as a pure shutdown line and PK duties.
