Compare him to Virtanen. Similar draft position 5 vs 10.

Virtanen spent his first year on the Canucks then got sent down for a year to the AHL.

Podz has spent 2 years in the KHL before coming to the NHL.

I think he will be ahead of Virt when he arrives. Meaning  better than Virt's 25 points in year 3 of his development.

And I think his upside will be at least as high if not higher.  He makes a lot of smart plays already.

Really looking forward to seeing Podz here with NHL coaching and joining a great up and coming ream.  Kid could become part of the core very quickly.

    6-10 not top 5

No he doesn’t need to dominate the rest of the tournament. That’s rubbish to say the least. Plenty of players dominate the tournament and become nothing’s.

Would it be exciting yes but it really doesn’t mean anything when in a year or 2 he’s playing in the NHL. It will all be forgotten about

With playing Pro the last three years and it being his third WJC it is expected.

  3. Regardless of opinion this is a player with his experience and age who should be dominating this tournament in every way. His deployment the last two years has not been good and confidence is a huge factor when it comes to hockey. I see a frustrated player who is trying to simplify his game because of expectations. He needs to dominate offensively for the rest of the tournament in a big way.

This whole "experience" talk is just a way to keep young guys like Demko down. He's been ready. I think a young big forward will help us make space out there with a wide body that hits.We have good players but we need just a touch of truculence along the board battles. Juice alluded to it as well.

Podkolzin!!  He is exactly this and more.

  5. The guy just had his first child with the mother and family there to help while he is away. With COVID and the new culture with the child I see no way he was coming over for next year. A one year contract is great news as clearly he wants back over when the situation suits his family better.

  6. I’ve come to the realization that he will be a bust or bottom pairing PP specialist and that is very depressing. He hasn’t even looked dominate in any league other than a stacked London Knights and team Finland teams.
