  1. I’d be ok with him being the guy to mentor Podkolzin and take him under his wing. The style of play Podkolzin plays with will definitely draw a lot of attention and having a big 6’7 Russian behind his back would probably go a long way.
I’d offer Virtanen or a cap dump and pick/prospect. Would add snarl to the back end and he would be my Edler replacement.
Re-sign Hamonic and with Myers we would have some size to go along with skill.

Next offseason go hard for a top RHD and if you draft a McTavish the team could really take shape from there. Same with almost any forward rated to go top 9 this year, or Dman!
Exciting offseason for sure but I think this guy is our Podkolzin security blanket that can fill a massive role on and off the ice.

  2. Lots of talk that Clarke is a Klingberg clone and I personally don’t see a need for that on our team. If he’s there at 9 take him due to the RHD aspect of it, but I personally think we need to go big and mean with our right side since our whole left side in the future consists of PMD in Hughes, Rathbone, Juolevi.
Id go for high end talent to play on the top line like a Johnson or Guenther, of course Eklund is a pipe dream but those three guys I’d target on draft day. No way Pearson should be in our top 6 and Piggy is still a bit of a question mark (I think he will be awesome) but you never know.

  3. I’m fine with making the RHD prospects/players defensive D as our left side looks set with PMD already. David Savard this offseason and a defensive beast prospect who will smother and punish the opponents is what I really want. I could see Carlo coming here in a package as well as Ceranek(TB) or one of Phillys RHD. Hamilton would be a pipe dream same with Jones.

My best guess at the moment how the draft plays out:

    1. Power

    2. Beniers

    3. Clarke

    4. Hughes

    5. Eklund

    6. Edvinsson

    7. Guenther

    8. Johnson

    9. McTavish

I’m good with any of those 9 or Wallstadt. Don’t want anyone else with that pick.

  5. At this point I have zero preference but do have faith in the scouting staff. Said we have a clear top 9 who they like so they will probably only get one or possibly 2 options.  I’m fully on board if they also choose the next Carey Price as well. Having a cost controlled elite Goalie is priceless;) and can win series almost all by themselves.

    bring on the Draft!!

Not at all.  This year is NOT the year that the 9th overall will get you a king’s ransom.

Im sorry but I think that Drance is as qualified as a used car salesman when it comes to hockey.

Actually this is not true at all. With the expansion draft and having to leave players they don’t want to leave unprotected, we could convince a team that a top 10 pick might hold even a little more value than normal.

  7. What has happened is now in the past. I feel managementshould be replaced as well as the coaching staff. Asset management has been terrible since day 1 and would look a lot worse if Markstrom was picked off waivers the year he played in Utica. Free agency has been terrible since day 1 as well but RFA signings have been good. Trades are both bad and good with a lot of risk/luck being involved like shooting darts at a board with a blindfold. Drafting has been great but nobody is saying let’s replace the amateur scouting staff, just the pro one.
We have gained the knowledge that our management is not nearly good enough or ready to take the team to the next step of the rebuild by these players walking away as lost assets. By signing big money to our bottom 6 who aren’t even close to living up to their contracts has ultimately cost us these assets and that is unacceptable, for any franchise. Moving on from Marky and replacing his money with Schmidt because of Demko’s emergence should have been the only move made by management while retaining the rest. Attaching a first to a Loui contract to shed $6 million in cap and not signing Holtby to retain Tanev/Toffoli/Stetcher would have been assetmanagement 101 because the value of all three far exceeds a first round pick and a player who is a distraction due to his cap hit and lack of productivity.

    Brisebois

    Yes!

To fix the issue of having defensemen who cant play defense is to add more offense minded defensemen who suck at defending at checking!

    Hughes Myers

    Edler Schmidt

    Dunn hamonic

    OJ Benn

Or trade for a Dman that actually plays D with some snarl instead of another offensive smaller well skating poor defending dman?

    Josh Manson

    Hughes Manson

    Schmidt Myers

    Edler Hamonic

    OJ  Benn

Manson would be a dream but I don’t see him going anywhere. Same with Lindholm. All I know is we need defence more than offence with Podz in the wings. Thank god we didn’t trade our first for OEL like they wanted. Same with the playoff play ins where we sacrificed the 20th overall.

Thank You Darth very good post. Can't believe some on here are pinning this on Jake when he only played 10 minutes in this game and was basically taken off the top line after the first period. Not saying he played great but the TEAM did not play very good. Demko was just "Ok", Petey is not himself, Edler was beat a couple of times, Bo let McDavid walk around him after a faceoff for a goal, Hogs had a brain fart for a goal and got a "pat on the head" for it.

The PP has NOT scored a goal in 2 games and was 0/5 last night. Every other player on the team was put on the top line and none of them could fare any better then Jake could so is he the problem for their woes so far? Green should have tried these in practice because we all know that he likes to line juggle when things aren't going right. But no, lets do it during a game instead?

As usual, Jake has the shortest leash on the team and it showed last night. He was able to play a total of 4 periods before he was the "scapegoat" and made to warm the bench. The last I seen, before he was benched , that he was one of the few who could actually get a shot on net on the PP. I guess that's worse then the rookie coughing up the puck for a goal because he didn't get a "pat on the head" , he was benched instead.

Jake is not the regular top line winger, he is FILLING IN!!!! Folks.

This is a team sport and this was a team loss. Plain and simple.

#worstcrewever He does not have the Hockey IQ or work ethic to be even given the opportunity to play on the top line. You can clearly see he’s fallen out of favour with his coaches and teammates. I’m calling a Roslovic swap in the next couple weeks and hopefully playing in WPG will wake him up.

You are judging that one a two-game sample in a very odd year at best?    Give the guy at least a few more games before you condemn him.    Based upon that two game sample you could draw all sorts of conclusions, good or bad, on almost any player that is not aligned with reality but with Jake people seem to be ready to draw a negative one.

It’s been 6 seasons..... He’s a liability on and off the ice. Definitely has lost faith in his coaching staff and teammates. There is no quick conclusions that are being drawn here as I thought he would pull through! #worstcrewever

  12. Not doing a good job of seizing the opportunity to prove you can stick in a top 6 role. Confused as to why he’s not resorting to a heavy game and forecheck with his speed to get the pucks to the skilled guys. Just seems lost and probably frustrating his teammates by having offence die on his stick.
