  1. I imagine that Bo and Sutter will be getting top 6 minutes for centres, even if Sutter’s line is primarily shutdown minutes. Remember at the start of this season when grandlund/Sutter/dorsett we’re getting the most minutes on the team? this lends itself to favourable matchups for pettersson/gaudette/gagner/whoever else might be centre next year sutters value to this team is deeply underrated. He shields the young guys better than any other player on the team
  2. Vaxjo seems like such a juggernaut. Highest scoring regular player, one of the best goalies in the league, and depth throughout the lineup. Was EP on the first line again today?
  3. low key I’m excited for him to be added to NHL18 so I don’t have to use my custom made player of him in my franchise modes anymore
  4. I thought that was Cole cassels job??
  5. I imagine that once gaudette signs, it will be the end of Nic Dowd’s career as a Canuck
  6. This picture made me clean my room and smartin up
  7. Yeah that’s a good point. McDavid is best when draisaitl is on his wing. Lucic couldn’t keep up with him and now he’s been demoted to third line duties. Even stars need help
  8. Not to derail this thread any further, but how many number one C’s in the nhl would actually be producing at a high level with Goldobin and Leipsic in their wings? He’s not only missing boeser, he’s also missing Baertschi who is heavily underrated on this board. Would monahan have 30 goals with Gaudreau? would seguin have 30 goals with Benn? would sheifle be a ppg player without guys like wheeler, ehlers, and laine on their top 6? would Bergeron be on pace for 30 goals without Marchand and pastrnak ? show me any high scoring centre in the league and I will show you at least one high scoring winger they play with. Even Crosby benefits from Malkin and kessel being on the PP. McDavid is probably the only one I can think of who can score points with literal AHL wingers on his line im not saying Horvat is as good as all or any of these guys, and I think he probably caps out at ~60 points in his career, but really it’s hard to expect any offence at all out of him when he has nhl tweeners on his wings and he’s the most reliable defensive forward on the team, so he’s utilized as such.
  9. I have the reports due next week that I haven't started and instead of doing them I'm sitting here filling my note book with possible line combinations for next season
  10. Basically the year you turn 20 you're allowed to go from the CHL to the AHL. Lind and Gadjovich both have later birthdays in the year, so they will be 19 at the start of the season but turn 20 before December 31st, so they are eligible to play. This is one of the advantages of drafting olders players (I.E. players born between September 15th and December 31st) is they only need 1 more year of Junior before they are AHL eligible. if either of them were born in 1999, they wouldn't have been eligible till 2019-2020
  11. Next year the Canucks will probably have Lind, Gadjovich, Palmu, Dahlen, Motte, Joulevi playing in Utica. Plus there’s a chance guys like gaudette, pettersson, Brassard, Candella, and maybe a player we draft this year might be on the team as well. This give Canucks options for callups and doesn’t force anyone to play above their head. Also allows for strong internal competition. Very good environment for prospect development
  12. Went and did some digging, I’m pretty sure that since 2000 (that’s as far back as I went) Kole Lind has had the 2nd best offensive season in the CHL by any player the Canucks drafted (Cody Hodgson had a better season in 2009). Looking over “top 10 prospect rankings” from previous years, Kole Lind would easily be a top 3 (if not #1) for Canucks prospects every year since Gillis started. But since 2016, our prospect pool has gotten much deeper, and now I’d say he doesn’t crack our top 5. Really speaks to a) how bad how drafting has been over the past decade and a half and b.) how deep our prospect pool sureently is.
  13. Any chance Pettersson plays for Sweden in the world championships this year? Maybe the Sedins play on the team too?
  14. yeah 2 of our 5 are from Benning era drafts. doesn't include Demko, Gaudette, Brisbois, Lind, Gadjovich, Palmu, lockwood, etc. good chance at least 2 or 3 (maybe more) of those guys see 50 nhl games at minimum,
  15. The only players to break the oilers roster this year who the oilers themselves drafted after the 1st round are Khaira, Slepyshev, Davidson, and Ethan Bear. Khaira is their 4th line C (having a good year for a 4th loner but that’s not saying too much), Slepyshev is constantly put in situations over his head, Davidson was traded for a 3rd, and bear has played 7 games this year. Not much there. To abe fair, not much for Vancouver either, who only have elder and Hutton on the team right now who they drafted outside the 1st round EDIT: just went back and looked at the past 10 years for both teams for drafting outside the 1st round. Players who have played over 70 games. Van: tryamkin forsling hutton corado connauton (all defensemen interestingly) edm: slepyshev khaira gustafsson rieder pitlick marincin davidson lander both lists are pretty bad. Connauton/Rieder probably the two best (maybe Tryamkin). It’s no wonder both these teams lack serious depth
  16. You can definitely blame them for his development, i mean you can’t blame them for picking him 1st overall. His junior numbers were really good and really there’s not too much else that developed from that draft class. Landeskog went #2. Scheifele is probably the best player from the first round, gaudreau probably the best from the draft
  17. Edmonton hits: McDavid Draisaitl Hall Eberle misses: Gagner paajravi Yakupov TBD/underwhlemers: Ryan Nugent Hopkins Nurse Puljiarvi overall they went 4 for 10 I’d say, although the 2011 draft was pretty weak so I don’t know if you can really hold RNH against them.
  18. He’s having a better 19 yr old season (offensively anyways) than both Brisbois and Chatfield did, and pretty much the same as Subban. If those guys can play meaningful minutes in the AHL, I don’t see any reason Brassard can’t either. I believe (though I’m not positive) 2017 was brassards 2nd year of draft eligibility, but because of his August birthday he was one of the youngest players available in 2016 so it’s not surprising he wouldn’t be taken that year. He’s not that much older than Nolan Patrick (just over 1 month older I believe)
  19. I definitely don’t think it’s an organizational development thing. Jake didn’t take his training seriously after his rookie season. He’s in much better shape this year. Brock, Bo, Stetcher all came into camp in their rookie years in great shape. And the Sedins are fitness freaks, and they promote a culture of intensive and focused off ice training. At 18/19/20 years old it’s really hard to work out properly for your body. It’s not just going to the gym and doing squats and bench press and deadlifts. Its doingo excercises that will increase your power in your stride and increase agility and torque in your upper body. The excercises required to accomplish these things are different for every player and it’s hard to know which excercises to do when your body is still developing.
  20. Yearly? Or monthly? Can’t believe he makes less than 3,000 a year... McDonald’s workers in Sweden make like 10x that!
  21. I’m a big nugent Hopkins fan, but the reality is he had key years in his development which were ruined in Edmonton. No accountability for players, coaches, or management. He had guys like Taylor hall and Jordan beetle show him the ropes both on and off the ice, and they were more concerned with getting girls on Whyte ave (popular bar scene here in Edmonton) than they were about having a good hockey team. They had 3 incredibly talented players that year in hall, rnh, and beetle, but no accountability. It’s no surprise two of them are gone from the organization. If nugent hadve been given players and staff around him that focused on developing all aspects of his game sooner, he’d be as good as horvat in my opinion. In in the past couple seasons there has been a big emphasis on improving his two way game and being more defensively responsible. He’s picking up on it and has developed into a really good second line centre, 55 point pace this season. but if these habits were enforced from day one, he’d be even better edit: just realized your based in Edmonton too so you probably know the saga already, but I think the point still stands
  22. It’s gotta be low. I remember in his Canucks prospect profile he said that after he signs his first NHL contract he is gunna buy boat. I thought “man they must not pay a lot in Sweden if the top player in the league can’t even afford to buy a boat playing over there”. I’ll guess he makes $2500 (USD) per month
  23. Nugent Hopkins also got 52 points in 62 in his d+1 year and looked like he was going to become a bonafide #1 C before Edmonton ruined him
