  1. Me saying pettersson has a realistic chance to become and all time great is very, very different than saying he is an all time great.
  2. Lol it was actually auto correct on my phone. I’ve written Sedins a lot so it knows to correct it to a proper noun
  3. Homer goggles would be to say pettersson is ahead of Dahlin. Being realistic about pettersson is to understand he will more likely than not be one of the best Swedish forwards of all time. Maybe it all comes crashing down, but good chance his name will be remembered along guys like sundin, foresberg, the Sedins, zetterberg, etc. Even if he does not live up to the heights he is currently on pace for, he will still develop into a very good top 6 forward in the NHL. NHL sleeps on pettersson because the only hockey he has ever played on North American Ice was the wjc this year. Even though it was some of his worst hockey if the season, he still looked really good so most fans understand he has talent. They just don’t realize how much. And and I just want to be clear that I am being as objective as possible with my views on pettersson’s future. I honestly believe that he is the 2nd best prospect in the world right now, and if Dahlin wasn’t out being the greatest D prospect of all time, pettersson would be number one.
  4. Yeah that boggles my mind. Even svechnikov. Maybe he’ll become a better player than pettersson but as of right now I’m quite certain EP is the better player. His extra year of development is to thank for that
  5. Really hoping eriksson finds some chemistry with EP in a leadership/mentor kind of role. Similar to Vanek and boeser last year. could be huge for EP’s development
  6. I reeeaalllyy like that Goldobin is calling his number here saying he’s going to score 25 goals will he hit that number? Probably not. But it shows confidence and willingness that be picked a specific number. He can talk the talk, now he just has to show he can walk the walk.
  7. One analyst ranked all nhl affiliated prospects (not including those who were drafted in 2018). Canucks well represented in the top 5
  8. College, AHL, NHL, honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any option. So long as he’s playing hockey and learning from top end coaches, he should be set to continue growing into a top end defensemen. NHL would be nice though so that at least we can watch it happen
  9. I wonder if the people saying Quinn Hughes is going to get injured because he’s small know that being 6’ 2” 220 pounds doesn’t make you injury proof? seriously though, is there any quantitative data at all that correlates size and likelihood of injury? I’ve never seen one so either no one talks about it or it doesn’t exist
  10. Anyone know how long Canucks retain this guys rights for? I k ow it’s normally 4 years for college guys but he won’t graduate for another 5 years as he’s in the ushl next year. Does that mean they have 1 extra year before they have to sign him?
  11. Yeah I don’t remember the origin but is was floating around most of the season. Here’s a link to a provies article talking about troy where they use the nickname: http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/the-provies-the-best-line-in-hockey-is-dead-the-gudbranson-and-hutton-civil-war-rages-on-and-tony-stretcher-shines
  12. Okay I need a tony stretcher and Quinn Hughes pairing now. Nevermind the size problems, they both play big games and together will be perfection
  13. Congrats to this kid on signjng a contract. Thats 4 players from 2017 signed and still possibly more (see dipietro, brassard)
  14. Im avtually pretty sure thats legally slander isnt it? spreading harmful information about a public figure even though you dont know it to be true
  15. Now that it’s clear Canucks aren’t picking first...... Pettersson is a better prospect than Dahlin, yeah I said it. Let the Homerism flow through you, you know it to be true
  16. Put it this way. Laster year, in his draft+4 year, Bo horvat scored 20 goals and 50 points, being involved on ~30% percent of vancouvers goals for. In addition, he played a key role defensively and played about 18 minutes per night including the second most amount of SH time on ice amongst forwards. He was just over 50% in faceoffs was a key contributer even strength, penalty kill, and powerplay. This year, Nylander played in his D+4 year, scored 20 goals and 61 points and was in on ~22.5 % of torontos goals. He was a key member of their powerplay but not as prominent in his rookie year. He played close to 16:45 per night. He did not kill penalties but was solid 5 on 5 Which if those two players would you consider the better player and more valuable to their team? Personally i would say Bo but i guess i would understand if one were to say Nylander. But Petterrsson? Hes projected to displace Bo horvat as the Canucks #1 centre. Obviously we wont know if he will untill he actually plays in the NHL, but there are legitimate reasons to believe pettersson is a more valuable player to have in your system than Nylander right now and the argument that Nylander has “proven himslef” is not only untrue, but ignores any potential either player has.
  17. Soooo why not Nillson? I know hes not a good goal tender but lets be hinest a good backup is very low on the list of needs for the Canucks right now. I see no reason why the Canucks shouldnt run Markstrom/Nilsson this year at least until the TDL. At that point, if Demko looks ready (i assume he will) trade Nilsson for a 4th/5th or waive him if you need to and play Demko. If we lose 4 or 5 games next season because we have Nilsson instead if a high end back up its really no big deal. He was brought in to buy Demko time, let him do that
  18. Nylander is a very good player and i would be very happy to have him on the Canucks. That said, 60 points is not elite level production especially from a player where offense is his main attribute. He also has areas to work in his game including being more agressive alng the boards/infront of the net and keeping his feet moving when going after loose pucks. Has Nylander proved himself a very good nhl player and a balueable piece to the leafs future? Yes. Has he proven himself to be a star? No. But i see no reason to assume he wont become one. Just as i see no reason to assume Pettersson wont become one. If you want to point to players who have “proved it”, pastrnak, barzal, mcdavid, kucherov, mckinnon, eichel, matthews and laine have all proven they can be elite point producers and scoring leaders on their teams. Nylander is not in that group. A more fair thing to say is “nylander has a better chance of becoming a star than pettersson because he has shown that he at least can perform well in the NHL”. Although, this ignores the 2.5 year age difference between the two, and Pettersson has outperformed nylander at similar stages in their careers
  19. Yeah seriously. We havent a clue how Dahlin will perform yet. Sergachev/werenski/mccavoy/whoever else you want to add here have already proved themselves. jeeze what is it about CDC thinking every prospect who performs well is suddenly an NHL star and better than guys who are actually doing it in the NHL
  20. He’s still 18 so canucks hold his rights this year whether they sign him or not. He’s also not old enough year for AHL so really there’s no rush to sign him till next season. Save some contract space this year
  21. So is he on the team or just trying out for it? If he is on the team, I think dipietro is the 1st Junior Goalie to suit up for Canada at the WHC since former 7th overall pick Jamie Storr did so in 1994. Interestingly, Storr also played for the Windsor spitfires in junior, though only for 4 games.
  22. Just went back and looked. Highest i could find was Crosby back in 2006 when he scores 8-8-–16 in only 9 games. Thats better than gretzky did as a 21 year old... other notables include patrick kane who had 10 points in 7 games, steven stamkos who had 11 points in 9 games, and Laine who had 12 points in 10 games as an 18 year old (matthews had 9 points in 10 that year). Last years highest scoring u-20 was sebastion aho with 11 points in 10. Im expecting probably .80 to 1.00 ppg from pettersson this year. Too high?
  23. Merkely had the highest scoring-chance-assists of all draft eliguble defensemen in the CHL this year, over twice as many as the next player. But hes small and weak defensively and has supposed attitude problems which is why he dropped. Imo hes worth trading up from our 2nd round pick to get though. He has erik karlsson offensive potential but he also may become a jordan subban type player. Huge boom or bust type of guy
  24. Yeah but that doesnt mean he wouldnt. Dahlin turned down an invite to worlds and opted to shut down instead. Doing whats best for your long term development isnt always about doing whatever you want to do right now.
  25. What a season. 1st place in regular season, 1st in scoring, WJC silver, 2nd in CHL, playoff scoring leader, higgest scoring u20 player sll time... and now SHL champion
