Sad to see John go but sometimes it’s just time for retirement.
KB3 would be a dream but I think he’s the next big thing in the industry so not sure he’ll do that. Luongo would be pretty good but not sure he’d do it either. Donny Taylor would be another amazing choice from the past even without being a player.
Outside of them, I’m just not sure who else could do it.

Two of those 4 will end up on IR by mid November.
True but we have the depth D (Juulsen, Brisebois, Johansson etc) to ride it out if needed. Essentially the idea is swapping redundant forwards for defensive D (With 1-2 years left) which we need without having to go the UFA route and sign someone like Gavrikov to a 5x5 type deal.
-
-Sign Livingstone
-Trade Boeser for Tanev (Calgary re-tool)
-Trade Garland and Rathbone for M Pettersson
-Keep OEL for now as a buyout doesn’t make sense
-Avoid free agency prices
Hughes Tanev
Pettersson Hronek
OEL Livingstone
-
-Trade Miller for Kotkaniemi, Morrow, 2023 1st
-Trade Boeser and Rathbone for Ristolainen (https://phillyhockeynow.com/2023/01/20/philadelphia-flyers-rasmus-ristolainen-improved-notch-morgan-frost-john-tortorella-physical/)
-Draft Dvorsky (Our first) and Strbak (From Carolina trade)
-Trade Myers for anything or nothing once his bonus is up
-Sign Tryamkin and Livingstone
Kuzmenko Pettersson Beauvillier
Mikhayev Kotkaniemi Garland
Podkolzin Raty Kravtsov
Joshua Aman Hoglander
Studnicka
Hughes Hronek
OEL Ristolainen
Tryamkin Livingstone
Bear, Morrow
Demko
Silovs
Go with the youth movement building around the timeline of Petey and Hughes and adjust where needed (Cap gets freed up from these moves). Tons of prospects in the pipeline as spots come available and minor tweaking as needed since C is a little bit risky in this proposal.

I would be concerned that the group wouldn't be able to play much D as they are mostly puck moving guys in your proposal. I would want to see some size and D with my D group. Similar to what I shared in another thread I would love to see:
Trade Boeser and Rathbone for Rasmus Ristolainen (Transformed more into a 2 way D from a liability offensive D under a similar coach to ours)
Trade Myers for something or even FCs once his bonus is payed out
Sign Tryamkin and Livingstone
Hughes Hronek
OEL (6'2) Ristolainen (6'4)
Tryamkin (6'8) Livingstone (6'3)
Brisebois Bear as extras
Gives us a bottom four with some size without compromising speed and a top pair of more offensive guys that can apply the pressure as needed.

Still hoping for Miller for Kotkaniemi, Morrow and a 1st in the offseason, but if we target UFAs I would think it would be:
Ryan O'ReillySean Monahan
Jordan Staal
All likely reasonable contracts based on age and could step in as 2C if needed from time to time especially if Raty is ready and consistent.
-
I know people have been pretty divisive about him in the past, but here is a pretty good writeup on Rasmus Ristolainen working under Torts:
https://flyersnittygritty.com/https-flyersnittygritty-com-feed-12/
I wonder if it has taken the right coach to get him to be the strong skating two way D he was always projected to be instead of the offensive but high minus D. It gets me thinking that with a very similar coach in Tocchet that same focus could be there and whether we would trade a shorter term contract in Boeser (But higher cap) for a longer term potential solution at RD since we are obviously competing and not rebuilding. If the new Risto is a fast/tough/large two way D, he could be a very good compliment to OEL in our aggressive retool. Proposal:
-Trade Boeser for Ristolainen (Meets our RD depth need and Philly gets a younger player on shorter contract. We also save 1.5M in cap)
-Trade Myers to Chicago/Arizona and free up the 6M cap while they only pay 1M
-Sign a short term veteran 3C (O'Reilly, J Staal, Monahan) with the cap savings to allow Raty to develop
Next Year:
Kuzmenko Pettersson Beauvillier
Mikhayev Miller Garland
Kravtsov O'Reilly Podkolzin
Joshua Aman Hoglander
Hughes Hronek
OEL - Ristolainen (The new one)
Tryamkin - Schenn
Demko
Silovs
Extras: Brisebois, Bear, Di Guiseppe
Looks like a pretty solid retool not even counting our 1st round pick who is likely two years away from being part of the equation. Boeser for Ristolainen is the proposal, but I went full out on the entire lineup.

He's been a very steady D and thought he could play bottom pairing even last year. Brisebois and Myers or Brisebois and Bear can form a pretty decent 3rd pairing.
I have a very similar feeling with Juulsen. Both could be bottom pair or NHL extras for us next year and going forward.

We are surely drafting from Tier 3 and to me, all those guys look like they will be great picks.
Given how we have been collecting Russian players as of late, I'd be thrilled if Michkov somehow drops to us.
I think that could be our potential steal of this draft. The Russian factor will play stronger in this draft which could help us out. Maybe it's been our secret strategy all along.

If we had to rank and tier it considering the Canucks’ needs:
Tier 1:
1. Connor Bedard
Tier 2:
2. Adam Fantilli
3. Leo Carlsson
4. Matvei Michkov
5. Will Smith
Tier 3:
6. Zach Benson
7. Dalibor Dvorsky
8. David Reinbacher
9. Eduard Sale
10. Ryan Leonard
11. Colby Barlow
Thats what I think the Canucks list would be close to.
Looks pretty good. The only thing I have heard is that Benson is closer to that second tier even though he is a winger. If he's a similar level to Dvorsky or Reinbacher, then I think you go for higher value position potentially.
-
My take on the draft is always take BPA, however if it's very close (Within a tier) then I think we need to have a slight focus to C and RD as we have those organizational needs now and into the future (To be honest they always will be for most teams) when these prospects are closer to being ready. That said, I think this would be my top 10 strictly from a Canucks perspective (Since we are and could drop a bit further down from where we currently are):
Tier 1:
1 - Connor Bedard
Tier 2:
2 - Adam Fantilli
3 - Leo Carlsson
4 - Matvei Michkov
5 - Zach Benson
Tier 3:
6 - Dalibor Dvorsky
7 - Will Smith
8 - David Reinbacher9 - Oliver Moore
10 - Eduard Sale

Sign Tryamkin and pair him with Myers if we can’t move him.
Maybe Calgary realizes they aren’t good enough and do a retool. Swap Boeser for Tanev due to the age gap:
Hughes Hronek
OEL Tanev
Tryamkin Myers
or scrap Tanev and trade Boeser for Zadorov:
Hughes Hronek
OEL Tryamkin
Zadorov Myers
One can dream!!!!

Maybe it’s just Pettersson for Garland now.

Nice move. Super redundant as we have Aman and Studnicka. Getting a 4th is a surprise actually.

People are blinded by their urge to go full rebuild and can't appreciate us picking up a legit top 4 RHD, so they immediately have to hate our new player to fit with their perspective.
This move is highly dependent on the others. If we do nothing else, it doesn't necessarily feel like enough to turn the corner and we continue to middle our way along. If we were to trade Miller for Kotkaniemi, Morrow and a 1st and Boeser for Pettersson, McGinn and Pickering, then the Hronek move would make a lot of sense. All still TBD at this point, but if those were to happen and we signed Livingstone we would be looking pretty nice overall:
Hughes HronekOEL Morrow
Pettersson Livingstone
Give OEL a few years then retain half his salary and insert Pickering into the lineup on his ELC once he is ready.

Maybe they have so much cap space that they just take OEL for us (Eventhough I still think he's part of out future)

Not really sure why Buffalo did this when they already have lots of cap space. Prepping for a massive trade?
Myers takes up a lot of cap space. Need to make a lot of room.

If we trade Miller for Bennett and Lundell all will be forgiven from yesterday. That would be a true retool and we'd be better off then where we started.

Miller with Tkachuk just feels right somehow and we will only see them 1-2 times a year. Make it so!

[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

I feel like there are a lot of options to improve our D next year. If we signed Tryamkin (mostly to play RD on his offside) and Gavrikov for size and defensive needs, moved Myers once his bonus is paid we could be in good shape without much more even:
Hughes Juulsen
Gavrikov Hronek
OEL Tryamkin
Would be nice to hear some more on Tree.
