This is a LOT of cap space that Columbus just freed up. 8.25 million off the books.

    Making a run at Miller?

He'd probably look pretty good centering Laine and Gaudreau!

    ;)

That would be pretty nice.  I don't think Columbus is looking for a major rebuild, I think they are looking towards a strong re-tool with who they have in place.  They have embraced the tank for this year, but they are not selling their core players just yet.  Miller could be in play there.

Even if they don't plan to compete soon. Chychrun is still just 24 years old. They'd have to tank for like 8 years before he's gone from relevancy completely. I don't trust his health. But still, if I were Arizona I'd send him out East too.

I’m not sure they are planning on competing at any future time as they seem to just be controlling costs until some move or investment, but I do agree that Chychrun is not a perfect fit as another LD.

You think Arizona would give him to us for what they got from Ottawa? Don't answer, cause it's no.

Damn, and I was just about to answer.  At least you didn’t use the term “full stop” so I appreciate that at least.

Division tax is real, but it’s severely muted with Arizona as they aren’t even pretending to compete.  They will take the best future deal for someone regardless of division.  Oh I guess I answered.  Apologies in advance.

Could this be the deal? Morrow over Skjei and it's a major WIN.

The Hurricanes have acquired LW J.T. Miller, D Jack Rathbone, and LW Nils Hoglander from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for D Brady Skjei, RW Martin Necas, C Jesperi Kotkaniemi and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. #CanucksNHL_Team_2022_Vancouver_reprogram.png

Would be a major win but clearly fake and not happening in a million years.

I thought OEL-Bear was the best we saw out of OEL this season.  This opens up:

    Hughes-Hronek

    OEL-Bear

Still some serious work to do moving out Myers and finding a legit 3D who can play the PK.  Tall task.

Nicely done with the Tryamkin reference.  There is our PK guy if the Pettersson swap doesn’t work out.

Ya'll are missing the point here.

Only DeNiro seems to understand the implications. They said MULLER, not Mueler, or Bueler.

Muller is only one letter different than MULDER, which is obviously an ode to Aliens and the Xfiles.

    Pettersson is a known alien.

SALAD, or in hockey terms, means HAIR.

    Hair = Boeser.

    Boeser is Millers teammate.

    Miller to Pittsburgh confirmed.

It works because anybody named Pettersson is 6'3 170lbs (Elias, Marcus, Elias the 2nd (They even ran out of name creativity)).  That's just the Pettersson clone mould.  X-Files was also filmed in Vancouver, so it all lines up very very nicely.

If the Nucks are taking a cap dump McGinn 2.75X2 and an overpaid LD Pettersson 4.025, they should

be getting a far better return than that.

They don't need the extra cap space for Miller this season, if the Canucks take Blueger 2.2 (along with

the 2M for waiving McGinn + Friedman + Penns cap space + flipping Zucker). Zucker's $ can be applied

    to JT's new contract.

To me, the basis is getting Pickering and another 1st (3 this year gives us so many options) and the Miller cap relief since he's not the right timeline.  Pettersson can actually help our D (Wrong side, but maybe he can play with OEL on his offside) and is likely easy to move if needed for positive value.  As long as the cap offset is short term like you mention, I think we are fine.

Ultimately I am still fully in the trade Miller to Carolina camp, but this seems to have some legs.

  8. A lot of things have to happen to have us acquire Chychrun and the balance will just be off regardless, but here goes an option just for fun:

-Miller for Pettersson, McGinn, Pickering and a 1st

-Pitts 1st, NYI 1st and Rathbone to ARZ for Chychrun

-Myers moved to Chicago in the offseason for FC (High cap, low dollar amount)

-Sign Schenn, Livingstone and re-sign Bear

Hughes - Chychrun (playing his off-side)

    OEL - Livingstone

    Pettersson - Bear

    Schenn

    Certainly better than this year.

Zucker also has a partial NTC, teams with lots of cap space are more likely to be one of those 10 teams

Agreed and it's unlikely to be him.  Pettersson and McGinn make up the amount nicely along with some nice adds going back our way.  I think we could be tossing a player like Burroughs back to ensure they have some cheap playoff D depth.
