  1. I grew up in the Soviet Union and I am old enough to know what the "cult" means. People love to create heroes, it in in the human nature, unfortunately. She has not done anything special, anything that goverments around the world have not done. But only here media created all this hype. It is sad, actually. And, what I personally don't like the most- looks like she is enjoying this celebrety status, all this media attention. Just my opinion.
  2. 1." How would it have looked if a well respected and trusted official publicly denounced Horgans decision to hold an election?"- it would look as she did her job and provide an independed advise. 2. "Are people so dumb that they need to be told exactly what to do by the government?"- in situation like that- yes, otherwise there would be no need for lock downs. 3." I've been wearing a mask whenever I go out since March"- respect, me too
  3. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/about-bc-s-health-care-system/office-of-the-provincial-health-officer " The responsibilities of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) are outlined in the Public Health Act. As the senior public health official for British Columbia, the PHO: Provides independent advice to the Ministers and public officials on public health issues;" She did not raise her concerns about election. Yes, there was voting by mail system, but voting stations, at least in my neighborhood were full of people on the election day. Granted, she legally can't call off election, but if she publicly raised her voice (independent) against it, there would be no election.
  4. She allowed to have election in the middle of pandemic. And did not allowed to have playoff hockey in Vancouver. Somehow media created a cult around her instead of a serious analysis of what she did right and what she did wrong.
  5. She did it once, we could have bubble in Vancouver, millions of dollars in economy and jobs (temporary, but still) I personally don't understand why games in empty arena that will be played by athletes tested millions of times are more dangerous then crowded malls ?
  6. It is not as bad as you think: " "I must stress at this point there is currently nothing to suggest that this variant is more likely to cause serious disease," he told MPs. "And the latest clinical advice is that it's highly unlikely this mutation would fail to respond to a vaccine." Speaking at a Downing Street news briefing later, chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty said the new strain will still show up on tests and is not "more dangerous" than existing ones." Social Media and mass media make things much worse, creating a fear and hysteria. I think that mass media has a vasted interest in creating a fear culture around Covid-19, simply because fear - is the best selling engine and creates extra revenue. But is does not metter that a reasonable person should follow suit. Yes, Covid should be taken very seriously, but without panic. Panic might creat more side effects thet virus itself.
  7. Or any other day, 6 persons not including children. At the same time they have curfew in place 8 p.m.- 6 a.m. and restaurants, bars, cinemas etc. remain closed
  8. I think it is absolutely necessary to put a curfew in place for the New Year eve and January 1-4. Otherwise we’ll see a big increase in cases count around January 14. Just my thoughts…
  9. France announced new measures yesterday, among them: - Curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for all days , including December 31, but excluding Noel; - Cinemas , theatres remain closed; - People can get together at homes, but no more then 6 adults at table - Bars and restaurants remain closed until at least January 20. All counties fight the same virus, but every country does it in a different way looks like
  10. This is one of the problems with situation we’ve found ourselves in. The fear is the best-selling tool and mass media will ride this horse as long as they can and then some more. I remember September 11, I was at Burrard sky train station around 5 p.m. going home from office and there was a line up of people buying an extra edition of Province. The same, but on a much greater scale happening right now- not only here but around the globe.
  11. It is happenning around the world, and millions of these animals were already been killed. https://www.who.int/csr/don/06-november-2020-mink-associated-sars-cov2-denmark/en/ "To date, six countries, namely Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy and the United States of America have reported SARS-CoV-2 in farmed minks"
  12. I am personally at lost with all information about this Covid For example, here is a huge study from China: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w Basically, "The screening of the 9,865,404 participants without a history of COVID-19 found no newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, and identified 300 asymptomatic positive cases with a detection rate of 0.303 (95% CI 0.270–0.339)/10,000. The median age-stratified Ct-values of the asymptomatic cases were shown in Supplementary Table 1. Of the 300 asymptomatic positive cases, two cases came from one family and another two were from another family. There were no previously confirmed COVID-19 patients in these two families. A total of 1174 close contacts of the asymptomatic positive cases were traced, and they all tested negative for the COVID-19. " That means asymptomatic people can not transmite Covid.
  13. Yes, BC stadium is even a better option.
  14. Good questions. 1. Temporary hospitals just for Covid patients could be built, hotels can be used as temporary hospitals as well. Heck, a portion of GM Place could be used for hospital. 2. Aggressively hire personal for covid care. You don’t need to be trained 4 years +4 years +1 year (as my son) to take care of covid patient. Use medical students, retirees, medical professionals from foreign countries who live here but can’t work in Canada , etc. We we told by Government that we are at war with virus. Well, war time required a strong management from Government, and,so far I've seen none. During WW2 Canada built over 5000 tanks. From 0 in 1940. And these days we have to wait until developed countries produce vaccine for their own needs and then sell us some. Why a production facility was not built during this year? This is just one of many questions. Yes, we all need to do our part, and I do my part- as a manager on my job and as a responsible person in everyday situations. And I would like to see at least some smart actions from the Government. Lockdown and print money- cannot be the only solution, it creates more problems going forward. Just my opinion...
  15. I respectfully disagree. For 6 months that we had , with proper leadership and funds in place, the capacity of health care system- just for Covid patients- could be increased significantly.
  16. I think the vast majority of people are following the safety rules- masks, distance, etc. And if the stupid actions of tiny minority could bring the whole healthcare system to the brink of collapse- maybe it is the time to ask our Government- what was done to prepare country/province to the second wave?
  17. All these are proper measures, and I personally follow all possible rules and then some, but hope to stop virus spread with all these is like hoping to stop an ocean tide with sand walls. What is really upsetting me is the fact that our Government has done a very bad job to prepare country for the second waive, even though they have solid 5-6 months to do so.
  18. This is one huge if. I personally can't see it happening, with Covid numbers the way they are now.
  19. Dr. B is a nice person, but not a "wartime consigliere". It was obvious in spring/summer that we've got lucky and that the second wave is coming, but nothing was done to get ready for it. I still have to come to the office in downtown 1-2 times a week and today I've noticed a big difference in comparison to the last week. I would say 75%-80% people on the streets wear masks. And 100% in our office tower. 100% of people in my building (24 stores) wear masks now. But I think all this-too little, too late, virus is out there and it can't be stopped just by masks and distancing. On other hand we can't afford another lockdown.
  20. I am a bit confused here. I live in Coquitlam, and work in Vancouver. I work mostly from home but have to be in the office 1-2 times a week. Now I can't go there? Or work is "essential "?
  21. In the good old day in ukrainian villages people use to make borsch so rich that you can put a spoon in it and it will stand. They eat it in 4:30 in the morning in summer time and spent the whole day in hard work in the fields, and that borsch was giving them enough energy to go until 2-3 p.m.
  22. He is one of the top 20 NHL Ukrainians. http://www.ukrweekly.com/uwwp/ukrainian-pro-hockey-updatetop-20-nhl-ukrainians/
  23. This professor from France Jean-François Toussaint https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-François_Toussaint is saying that now Covid is 50-100 less deadly than it was back in March . https://www.lefigaro.fr/sciences/le-covid-est-il-50-a-100-fois-moins-letal-aujourd-hui-qu-en-mars-20201013 To me looks like even scientists and health care professionals don't completely understand this thing.
  24. For sure. The only question for me is - what does it mean to take it seriously? For me it is not only wear masks and washing hands as often as possible. All these just pospone the moment when the virus gets to everybody. The Covid situation give humanity a chance to switch to the healthy life style. Since we will have to live with virus for a long time this is our only chance. So, excersise, eat healthy food, spend as much as possibble time outside, fight depression, etc.
