  1. If you're gonna take a penalty like that, at least hit the goalie harder so it's worth it
  2. Juolevi had a few nice plays including an outlet stretch pass. I thought Hughes was ok except for a couple of times where he tried to pass it through the defender and ended up turning it over. Loved Petey's confidence in trying to split the D. It didn't work, but I had flashbacks of Kesler vs Nashville. Other than a few really ugly turnovers, I thought the team played well and controlled the pace of the game. We generated more quality chances, but Hellebuyck was really reading the play well and anticipating the shots. So I think we're going to have to do a better job of getting guys to the net to create traffic and screens for their goalie
  3. Button projects the national team rosters for 2022, Canada and USA. Puts Hughes on the second pairing with Seth Jones. Really interested to see those two in action, if it actually happens. https://www.tsn.ca/olympics/video/button-takes-an-early-look-at-team-canada-if-nhlers-attend-2022-olympics~1945900
  4. Haven't completely read through this thread yet, but looks like a bit of push back for mortgaging the future from some people. Guys like Petey and Hughes are in the infancy of their careers, and who knows what the ceiling could be. So to optimize development of our core, I think it makes sense to start going for playoff hockey asap and to win as much as possible right now. We're sacrificing the future for a better future.
  5. I feel Demko is more valuable than that, but I probably overvalue our guys a bit. Maybe something like: To Vancouver: Alex Kerfoot Andreas Johnsson To Toronto: Thatcher Demko Loui Eriksson .... if the salaries check out.
  6. Agreed. I think the points you make also mean things are more optimal for EP's development. EP's still rapidly growing his game and his body; and with that 200+ hockey IQ, it's hard to put a ceiling on what he could become. Miller's presence on the 1st line and the increased depth in the top 6 hopefully give us a chance to hit that ceiling, and not just for EP but for our other young forwards too.
  7. This is how I feel about it. Quinn said he wants to go. And if he makes the Pacific squad, it'll be because we collectively put in time and effort to support him (it's not that hard, but still). And I think he'll feel that tangible support and passion coming from the fans. So whatever his current feeling towards Vancouver is, it can only improve, which could impact future contract negotiations. We probably only have one shot at this because next year, I think he'll be an automatic invite. And when it comes to the scrims, perhaps the other all stars will experience what they've been missing in their lives all along - playing with a talent like Quinn. This could impact their future contract negotiations. Although I suppose there is the danger of this working in reverse. Edit: While I agree it's possible he'll be more fatigued, I also think he could come out of the weekend with even more confidence and therefore even better play. TL;DR: I think we should vote him in.
