Pods grew 2 to 3 inches over the last year, and is only recently adjusting to his new size.  As we saw in the most recent K playoffs, Pods is adjusting very well

He's an amazing player, who will help us win games in a variety of ways.

Adjusting to becoming taller? Lol ok. You act like he grew 2-3 inches over a week. People are getting out of hand with their Pod expectations. He is going to be a bottom 6 player with the odd cup of coffee in the top 6. There is nothing wrong with this. There is no reason to get defensive. His skating and his finish aren’t that of a top 6 player but our bottom 6 is ghetto. We need fresh, young enthusiasm down there instead of these salt and pepper haired guys who are out to pasture. Our bottom 6 is as stale a Thatcher Demko interview. Now we finally have some cayenne pepper to throw on that bottom 6 geezer fest and I’m excited.

Do you have anything else to say? All I see is you regurgitate the same things over and over. I have already debunked a lot of that and yet you post the same things. If you keep saying it, it doesn't make it true. It just makes you annoying and irrelevant.

How do you debunk someone’s opinion on how a hockey team is run? Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean their opinion is worth any less than yours. He is not irrelevant. He is a fan of the team just like you are. Some of my most enjoyable exchanges are with people I don’t agree with. No reason you can’t respect them.

Desperation is the key word. That's the goal mandated by ownership. You can't achieve that with incoming youth. JB must make the play-offs or his a$$ is grass. This coming season is a short term reprieve. So JB will be looking for instant improvement, he can only do that by buying out all his past errors and giving himself room to acquire a goal scoring vet. As Wallstreetamigo pointed out JB may well trade  his 1st round pick, don't be surprised. He may clear cap space but has nothing to make a trade with, no assets.

I have no doubt that in roughly a year from now the press conference will be conducted by FA. He will be explaining what he is looking for in his next GM. Only one more year. I can handle one more. Even though it’s going to probably basically restart the rebuild.

We all favour our players, I do too. But even with the pieces we have here now, it’s not enough. We don’t have enough to be a Stanley cup contender. We still need a more. This aggressive step is the same mistake the flames made.

  4. The only thing I’m surprised about is the enthusiasm after Jim said he was looking to acquire veteran scoring. I swear to god I’ve never seen a group of people with such debilitating memory loss. Miller is the only value scoring he has acquired. Everyone else is completely upside down in mortgage. The fact that he is even talking about such change indicates maximum desperation this summer which will result in maximum damage. He has no organizational surplus to exchange for a need. This will be a hacking a piece off the core off and trying to speed up the organic progression of that core piece by replacing it with a 28 year old who has 3 good years left. May god have mercy on the Vancouver Canucks.

    Its kind of funny.

I have been told multiple times lately that I am a moron for saying we need 3 lines that can score and for advocating that signing Toffoli and keeping Gaudette were two good ways to help build that out at a reasonable cost.

I also got told by those same people that Benning (rightly) decided to let all our UFA go last offseason because he was focused on rebuilding and didnt want to bog the team down with longer term contracts for bum 28 goal scorers like Toffoli or top 2 defensive dmen like Tanev because our farm system is full of players that they want to play.

I just listened to the new "plan" from Benning.

My only response is LOL, oh $&!# this could be ugly,  and dont worry all you guys who spouted the above BS, I wont expect you to admit you were wrong. Its ALWAYS been a retool, not a rebuild and it is again.

Jimbo is going to do some irreversible damage this summer. Obviously I’d like him to do well so the team does well but there is nothing from the past that indicates this will happen. He will sign or trade and create more bad contracts. Everyone is all pumped about his bums from prior Jim UFA frenzies coming off the books but anyone with half a brain knows he will just replace them with more bums. It’s what he has done every year. He simply can’t sleep at night with capspace.

A few of the MG yrs were a lot of fun. It's disingenuous to not acknowledge that he benefited greatly from work of his predecessors. He also made several moves to improve his lot.

    Unfortunately, drafting wasn't his forte.

As for the current scenario, people can be dismissive, or accept things to whatever degree they choose. We're all here to 'chat' about our thoughts, but I don't really believe anyone HAS to justify their opinions.

Standings don’t care about opinions. Neither does The salary cap.

Good to see someone bringing reality into the picture.   Those 6 results after Jim started tinkering with the team - after year one (which he inherited) - speaks volumes!   This team has been a failure to date under his regime and this year was likely one of the most dis-jointed line-ups I've ever seen on this team.  A total mess!

Remember when everyone use to make fun of The Cap floor rebuild bros by using Edmonton as a deterrent. Now they have the best hockey player the world has ever seen and literally can’t go without winning a Stanley cup in his presence at some point. Now it’s Buffalo. Pffft, you want cap space and be Buffalo?

what is also great about all this is they act like we’ve accomplished more than Buffalo has the last 7 seasons lol. Like we are superior to them with our 17th place finish last year.

The cap floor rebuild bros want more. I seriously have the patience to suck for 10 more years if we end up with a McDavid. I don’t think we have the core to compete with the best. We need more cellar time. Jim Benning is going for it this summer which is going to be a good thing cause it will most likely end in disaster and a new GM sooner.

Let me fill your glass half way. Why don't you run a list of youth acquired at every yr's passing?

When JB does leave, at least the next guy doesn't have to parachute down onto burning, scorched earth, with NOTHING growing.

Gillis made it to the SCF and won multiple pres trophies.

Benning made it to 17th. I sure hope he has some prospects and young players after that.

any other excuses you need to air out?

  9. Aggressive in FA and trades this summer. Perfect. Can’t wait to see the sweet deals. Actually, don’t get too surprised if he trades our 1st. Everyone needs to mentally prepare for that. Benning bros, get your excuses ready. Can’t wait to be told to be patient but then told that we need to be competitive by the same people. I’m just so excited guys. Looks like another year of a winning culture

    21/22: ??

    20/21: 24th
    19/20: 17th
    18/19: 23rd
    17/18: 26th
    16/17: 29th
    15/16: 28th
    14/15: 8th

That what being patient and having a winning culture looks like.

I disagree. Admittedly the term "winning culture" is unfortunate, better would have been something like "a group of experienced leaders that will show the young players how to be a good professional and how to play the right way". Especially on the defensive side of the game and in the general approach (routines, practice, bonding etc.) most prospects need guidance. Obviously JB and Green want a team where everybody plays at least a decent two-way game. Can't blame them for that.

People claim, the team should just have run with cheap fillers and the young guns. But who knows if Boeser would have developed the way he has without Pearson and Miller? Horvat has mentioned how important the Sedins were for him and how big a role they played in his development to the player he is now. What about EP? Who can estimate to what extent he benefitted from having some good, experienced defensive centers (Sutter, Beagle) behind him. Is it unlikely that being around Tanev and Edler has helped QH become better? Some don't get it (Gaudette, Goldobin, Dahlen) and will never make it in the big league. The offense will eventually come automatically.

Dude, I’m not arguing the theory behind this, I am arguing the cost. Your post is full of theoretical nonsense. There is just no way anyone could ever convince me or really anyone out of this pro Benning CDC ecosystem that we are getting value out of our bottom 6 contracts. A veteran being rewarded on UFA day for the production he had on another team isn’t a good message to our players either. You wanna talk about these players influencing our young players? Ok, what about our young players looking at a guy like Roussel and thinking, man, I can’t till I’m a UFA, it’s going to be awesome. I’ll just take the highest offer and go out to pasture. Like seriously. You want character? Draft character. You want leadership go get a you a Joe Thornton on a 1 year deal.

  11. 17 minutes ago, FaninMex said:

I have never ignored it. I have pointed out that we were an even worse team when we signed those contracts. To get the players that help us to develop good culture in the room while losing costs money. They came to a team that they knew had no chance of a cup. Having them allowed our up and coming prospects to develop until they are ready. Lind, Gadj, Graovac(?). We also have given Pettersson, Hughes and others to develop a bit by getting used to the systems and the speed. Horvat has become the leader we want him to be. All of this is part of the process to develop a core that will win when we take the next step.

A business man once told me that growing your business like a rocket leads to failure when met with stress. However, building a business in steps, reinforcing and adding in a process leads to a strong foundation that can weather difficulties. That is what I have seen. It is still part of the rebuild but it is moving in the right direction.

Jim Benning has done none of what you mentioned. I keep hearing about this winning culture all the time, where is that? Everyone just says it, but like, where is it? Lol.

You know what would support the young guys more than Sutter puffing out his chest with his 12 points? Players who can create offence.

Your building a business in small steps analogy has absolutely no relation to what Jim Benning is doing. In fact, I would argue that Jim Benning attempted a rocket launch that ended up as Challenger. Signing UFA’s when you’re in the leagues Ghetto is literally trying to speed things up lol. You can fill your roster with Sutter/ Roussel like production for the league minimum, every single off season, ever. Stop acting like he is doing any favours here. Roussel for example displaced Toffoli with his contract. What helps Hughes, EP, Hogs more? speeches or goals?

I think most can agree is that the Canucks needs to add sandpaper players that can play and throw down when necessary.  Turning the other cheek to get a PP is not working.  Especially if the PP sucks. We need to be a team that everyone hates to play against because we hit hard every time and finish our checks.  Drop those gloves and go Gino Odjick on their ass.

Cool, I’m sure we can find a lot of sand paper within our -4M in cap to play with.

So you agree that JB had absolutely nothing to begin with at the start of his tenure with the Canucks?

So isn't it possible that some people are asking him to do the impossible in 7 years?  Especially since it went from retool to rebuild.

Why is everyone ignoring the brutality of Jim’s top pocket contract pen?

have I in any way said that we should be Stanley cup champions? No. I said we should have the same core we do now, possibly more, but with 20M in cap.

    Benning bros starter kit.

It takes longer than 7 years. Gillis left him with nothing

We need to have a winning culture must spend millions on 12 point locker room guy Or Buffalo.

    Covid, Luongo, Flat Cap

    So many good draft picks.

upvote each other repeating the same thing.

In before the Benning hater starter kit.

No he hasn't.  But you said don't use bad GMs to prove the point.  So I'm asking you to show the good GMs that turned it around in 7 years.

Show me a GM who successfully built a Stanley cup champion with no core and a max salary cap? I’ll give you one, Brian Burke on the Toronto maple leafs. That regime is a direct comparison to this one. Canadian, toxic market. No core, no prospect pool no playoffs.

It was a 3 game play in. Not a playoff series. Even the NHL itself didnt classify it as one. Playoff series are 7 games.

They won 1 series and got dominated other than unsustainable goaltending by Demko in the 2nd round. With even above average goaltending that series is over in 5 at the most.

You claim me calling it what the NHL itself calls it is bias.....

It seems its actually you who is trying to change that narrative to make it look like the Canucks accomplished more success than they actually did in a bias to support the train wreck setbacks it cost the team by Benning.

Look at me, I’m going to give you a paper bag cause you make my subconscious benning insecurities tingle. I must suppress. Lol.

Roussel got injured as a Canuck then started to regress. Let' not change the narrative.

Toffoli is your only go to and you and your ilk harp on it over and over. It is an overused for a rental. Waaaa cry cry. Every team has many players that walk. Big deal

I think you’re probably between 60-80 by reading this comment and I respect my elders. Sorry sir, I’ll do better.
