Canucks weren't gonna re sign him so they got something instead of nothing. Clearing out a Judd pick. I see no other reasons to do this trade.

I think we can all agree that he would be worth at least 1/2 of what Sam Bennett got. (2) 2nd round picks. Hell even a little less than half, A 3rd. This return is literally nothing. I’m not even mad anymore. Just a normal day at the office.

Just because you don't like/understand the plan...

It's a free country. You're allowed not to like it. Doesn't make you right or Benning wrong. Doesn't mean there isn't a plan.

And I hate to break it to you but $3m on a short 3 year term isn't 'expensive'. Especially for a solid, 2 way, middle 6 F. I expected we'd bring him back to both push and shelter Hoglander and Podkolzin and lo and behold, here he is. Almost like I could tell what the plan was....

You have nothing. You’re a parrot. I keep feeding you crackers and you keep saying the same stuff over and over. $3m is a lot when you don’t have $3m. Why couldn’t he just chill? He already said he wasn’t trading anyone cause of Covid. What is wrong with just waiting and seeing what is going on? I’m not going to even get into how abundant a Left Shooting winger is in the NHL. There is absolutely nothing special about Pearson. There is no need to race for the pen. This is the Birth of another turd, in 3 years you’ll be telling me how good he is at killing penalties and insulating our young guys with his 7 goals and 8 assists in 57 games.

Yes we do, improvement was always going to come from within... And it's coming.

And I disagree that it's time to 'burst' yet. We need to get Pettersson, Hughes, Hoglander, Juolevi, Rathbone, Podkolzin etc some more miles on them before we're ready to make that 'burst' push.

And would you look, all those expensive and/or injured vets will be off at that point... Kinda like it was planned or something!

The only plan he has when those expensive vets get off the books is replacing them with more expensive vets. He already started using that up with Tanner “Generic top 6 forward you can acquire at any point in any era past present or future” Pearson for the next 3 years. Planned hahahaha. K

Can you insult something that doesn't exist? :P

And just because someone has a different idea on how to build a team doesn't mean they're 'incompetent'.

Look at the team before you and explain to me how that isn’t exquisitely incompetent salary cap management. We have a young core ready to burst out of this metaphorical capcoon surrounding them.
We don’t have the money to improve our team lol. We actually have to hope Seattle throws us a life line and takes one of our horrible contracts so we can fit the players we have hahaha. And you’re telling me this is building a team.

Oh no, not the media?!  The same media that panned the Miller trade? Assured us Edler was walking? Freaked out over Markstrom leaving? Etc, etc, etc...

Again, just because you don't like/understand the plan...

Seriously though, can you bring back the creepy pencil gif, it's just not the same...

Don’t insult my intelligence. Just because someone has a different idea than you doesn’t mean they don’t “understand”

I have no problem with a full, down to the ground rebuild and I have no problem with doing it on the fly. The problem I have is incompetence. The method is irrelevant. Boston did a great job of rebuilding on the fly, Colorado did a great job of building it from the ground up. The difference between Joe and Jim is Joe actually knows what the hell he is doing.

Forced? Not remotely what I said.

Zero evidence? They've given management free reign to spend too the cap, every season, throughout a rebuild.

Sorry reality isn't jiving with your preconceived notions there pencil boy.

Ok fine, let’s say he wasn’t forced. Doesn’t that make him even more incompetent? Lol, like seriously man. He is a cap management disaster. This isn’t a narrative I’m pulling out of thin air either. The overwhelming consensus of the local and national media is that Jim Benning is salary cap dyslexic.

Part of the plan, presumably agreed to with ownership, was to spend too the cap (on what, was outlined in my next post) while rebuilding. I haven't been expecting them to be 'Tampa good' during a rebuild regardless of that spending. Not sure why you, or anyone else would? They were rebuilding.

Again, just because you don't like/don't understand the plan, doesn't mean there isn't one

The Aquilini‘s are so unbelievably cheap that they don’t even provide water for their immigrant workers. Are you implying that they forced Jim Benning to spend all the money he possibly could? I just don’t buy this at all.

If Jim went to Francisco and said, “listen. I appreciate your willingness to spend to the cap but I think we need to stay close to the cap floor and build up an abundance of assets. When we draft the framework of our core (now) we can then use our cap space to exploit contenders in cap trouble (like the Schmidt and Miller trades) and use our abundance of assets we collected to cash in on the final pieces of the core” you’re telling me that cheap SOB is going to dismiss that? This is another fabricated narrative constructed by the Benning boys to justify his cap mismanagement.

There is absolutely zero evidence of any of this. The only evidence is how horrible our team is and how much it costs to ice that team. I don’t make stuff up to soothe myself. I just look at the product he has produced over the past 7 years.

I really think the problem here is confused people conflating their dislike of/not understanding of the plan, as management not having one.

They are not in fact, the same thing.

We cost as much as the Tampa Bay Lighting dude. I know what his plan is and I think it sucks. It’s not a plan that’s working. I seriously can’t believe how bad our cap situation is for where we are and have been in the standings.

Not even close.   Guardian and 189lbs are the best devils advocate i've seen on this site yet.   Need a balance and for that sir, i thank you.

I can’t reveal my true identity because stealth will gut me like the big I am. So I’m just going to make an official statement that I am a new user pretending to be a past user.

I’m going to go on a journey and put myself in the shoes of this former legendary poster and tell you.

    1. I just got my TN work visa and am heading to Texas to work on... um, solar panels. @Jimmy McGill knows.

    2. I am totally rock throwing drunk from a 2.5hr layover in Phx. The lady is shutting the overhead compartments. She loves me. I can tell.

2.1 if I was this legendary past user. I would tell you that I miss having fun conversations with the guys I disagree with. I disagree with you but at the same time I’m trying to make you laugh more than anything. I hope you understand that.

    have you seen Pearson skate?

you think ye will get faster?

11 points in 33 games with top 6 and powerplay minutes

    keep drinking the koolaid

Pearson is the most Generic forward possible, ever. (If that’s even possible to quantify). Even his physical appearance. If I told my 8 year old daughter to draw a hockey player, that drawing would look just like Pearson. He isn’t good or bad at anything. He just fills a sweater and plays hockey.

Lol, it’s a good thing we invested $3.25 x 3 on the most abundant player in hockey. I’ve slept on this signing a few nights and I just keep getting more and more disgusted about it. The Tampa Bay Lightning pay the same amount of money for their team as we do. Let that grow roots in your soul. We are so screwed.

No way on earth that Green is coming back - especially after the severe decline in the team performance this year.    He was completely unable to get the team ready and prepped for this season (despite every single other team being in the same boat) which resulted in two completely devastating months of failure and losses to start the season not to mention the worst month of professional hockey ever played in years - with only 2 wins in the entire month of February!  What a disgrace.

He can walk and go back to the AHL or ECHL where he belongs.

    RU SERIOUS?

It’s just so compelling to see someone suggest coaching as the biggest issue this team has. You sound like a homeless drug addict blaming society.

I’m a huge supporter of 95% of the coaching in the league over the last 30 years. 95% of the time it’s the players, not the coaches. If a professional athlete needs a coach to prepare them for a hockey game while being paid millions of dollars then those aren’t professionals and those aren’t players you want on your team. Coaching changes are the biggest cop out in hockey. Look at Buffalo and Calgary for example, what a turnaround.

I think we need a guy like Pearson to both push and shelter the likes of Podkolzin and Hoglander.

Want a spot beside Bo? Earn it. Want to stay there? Keep earning it. Struggling? Injured? We have a guy that can play there.

By push and shelter you mean hold back? This is such a homer narrative. What does Pearson have to earn? Absolutely nothing. I’m so tired of this “Young guys need to earn their spots” bs when all the Vets had to do was sign a contract. A great example of this is Benn over Juolevi. How did Benn earn that spot over Juolevi? It’s garbage and that Veteran “chain of command” mentality is dated. Pearson can’t be challenged or replaced organically. He will always have a spot on the roster because he is making full time roster money.

Ovi says hello.   You make a lot of broad claim strokes.   I've been a physically fit person since i was a kid, and can say any physical decline doesn't happen at 28 like some magical mystical number.   If you read my posts - i've been saying trade Pearson since last TDL.   We signed a middle six winger to a covid contract and the usual loud mouths are freaking out with their blow horns.   Stop freaking out with every move he makes.

Edit: Not only that i did a job that would put NHlers to shame.   Just a ridiculous assumption.   I wanted to trade Pearson for over a year.   Because his stock was high.

Yes let’s compare the one off generational talent that rebounded after partying too hard.

I don’t criticize every move he makes. I loved Schmidt, JT Miller, his ability to put together a scouting staff to draft the core. He has done some great things. It’s just a shame that he is so horrible at signing contracts and general organization. Ill call that out every time.
