  1. Just thought that your reasoning wasn't as good as mine
  2. Pretty much the same thoughts as me, right down to the score. It was well made for sure, but I thought it would have been a lot more powerful if the main characters were likeable.
  3. Drive - 6.5/10 On the plus side, I thought the action sequences were really well done. They were very tense and visceral. I also thought Bryan Cranston and Oscar Isaac did very well with their roles. On the negative side, I found the plot to be dumb and simplistic and Ryan Gosling's character annoyed me with his corny "strong silent type" shtick. The soundtrack also rubbed me the wrong way. Her - 8.5/10 Funny and an interesting look at relationships as a whole. The dialogue feels very natural and what could have been a ridiculous premise seems surprisingly grounded in reality.

  5. I think you misunderstood my "great" categorization. I'm talking strong and engaging characters that I enjoy watching, not necessarily characters on an all-time best level like Tony Soprano. I strongly disagree with your point that the anticipation of action can't make for a strong narrative. Often the buildup and the arc is much more compelling than the anticipated action, itself. To use Tony Soprano as an example, I don't think certain actions that he did to effect change in the plot were what made him a compelling character. I think of the contradictions in his personality (eg. his love for animals, yet callous disregard for most people), the sessions with Melfi, his interactions with his family, etc. They all built up a rich portrait of a fascinating man. You mentioned thinking Jaime was a really strong character in another post, and I agree. I thought he was probably the standout best character for season 3. However, does this really fit with your idea of agency? Similar to someone like Sansa or Arya, he's a character who has spent the majority of the time being acted on rather than acting on others. Outside of season 1, has he really exercised the power to change the story on a whim?
  6. I don't think Cersei has faded away at all. Her unravelling has been fascinating to watch, and she's been central to everything that's happened at King's Landing. Agreed that Arya hasn't gotten enough screen time recently, but that doesn't take away from her as a character, given what we've seen of her before. Characters don't have to be powerful or in control to be great. Sometimes seeing how they react to a loss of control can be even more fascinating, like in the Sansa and Cersei examples.
  7. The first three are great characters. The rest probably don't have enough screen time to justify that label, but I enjoy them nonetheless Sansa has had a hell of a character arc. She's gone from a naive brat, to being forced to go into pure survival mode to keep herself together physically and emotionally, and now she's starting to play the game herself. The emotion (and repression of emotion) she displays is really powerful. Arya is a nice foil to Sansa in how she's coped with her similar trauma. Instead of retreating into herself, she's become obsessed with an overt desire for vengeance. Although reckless to a fault, she's a hell of a badass. There's a little bit of crazy in there too. I think her banter with Tywin was possibly the highlight of season 2. Cersei is a fantastic villain. She is cruel and ruthless, but you can see exactly where it comes from with her mother's death, Robert's mistreatment of her, her father's dismissal of her due to her gender, and the loss of Joffrey and Myrcella. It's been really interesting to see her go from someone so self-assured and in complete control of everything in season 1, to slowly unravel to become the emotional and sadistic mess we see now.
  8. Of the major characters: Arya, Sansa, and Cersei. I also enjoy(ed) Olenna, Margaery, Ygritte, and Brienne (but only when paired with Jaime).
  9. Whaa? If there's something that GoT has in droves, it's great female characters (Danerys not included in that because she sucks).
  10. Chill out, guys. I wasn't actually investigated. Don't we have until 10?
  11. Vote Toews I'm really not liking his jokey response to getting some heat. He's posting a fair amount, but really nothing of substance.
  12. Somehow I completely missed 112 being the doc in my first read through. Likely safe for the specials to contact her since another doc would have come out by now. Damn straight. Almost there.
  13. Looks like it's picked up in the last page. I put $50 on the Kings when the odds were 20-1, so I'm cheering for them pretty hard
  14. You took your time to start throwing the accusations out. Usually you do that right off the bat. For the record, I actually kind of agree with you on the posts.
  15. Looks like I didn't miss much. Not much to go off of at all.
  16. Meh. He's had a dozen better in the first two books. Haven't read past that yet.
  17. I'm disappointed in show Dolorous Edd. He's been a wallflower instead of offering up amazingly depressing one-liners.
  18. First book covers the exact same stuff as the first season, so you should be fine.
