The old Herb Brooks line from Miracle, “you think you can win on talent alone?! You don’t have enough talent to win on talent alone!”
The players might think they’re playing hard, but 85-90% isn’t even close to good enough. It needs to be 110% every shift, every puck battle, every race to the puck. The best teams in the NHL have a lot of talent, but they also WORK their tails off every single night. The Canucks are experts at talking about it, but as far as actually doing it?? They’re either completely unwilling or totally incapable of bringing that intensity & fire every night. You’ve got to play every shift like it’s your last night in the league. Nothing less is going to get it done, the gap between the top team in the league and the worst team in the league is WAY too small, you’re just not going to get away with it
