Those "dark years" were considered as early as the beginning of this season! Guys on here were still saying we needed to tank. We never tanked.........ever. This group has played hard , there is no "give up" with this group.

The only thing we need is for these guys to mature because you know they are only going to get better.

    Petterson drafted #5

    Hughes                 #7

    Boeser                  #23

    Virtanen                #6

    Horvat                   #9

    Gaudette               #149

About when did we intentionally tank? Now if we are talking tank maybe we should be looking at all of Edmonton's #1 draft picks over the years.

That's why I put "tanking" in quotes.  I don't mean we tanked on purpose as we never did that. I just use the tanking term to mean trust the process and get high draft picks.  Without high picks to get that elite core, then any rebuilding efforts will take a lot longer.  Getting high picks is just step 1.  Then you need to build around that elite core through trades and free agency.

Remember when we were "years and years from contending" and that we needed to "Tank"?  :towel::metal:

Yup I do! Those were some dark years, but well worth it.  Getting Pettersson and Hughes is showing that trusting the proceess and "tanking" for high picks is paying off! Where would this team be without those two?! Not even close to contenders!  Avs with Mackinnon, Rantanen and Makar is showing that their tanking is paying off too.  I remember their 48 points season not too long ago! Now, they're legit cup favourites this year!  This is what the pro tankers wanted!  An elite core that can have sustained winning instead of just mediocrity like the Wild have been for years.  The wild are the example of what you don't want to be.  Good enough to make the playoffs yearly, but not good enough to pass the first round.  Just a cycle of mediocrity because they don't have the high end talent.

As a pro tanker, I'm very happy with the current team and can't wait till Pod and Hog come over!  I still have high hopes for Lind and hope he eventually gets a shot with us before he becomes Seattle expansion bait.

This market needs to chill on the knee jerk reactions. Seasons not done yet. This team is still very capable of making the playoffs and winning a round. But instead we got a fanbase acting like a bunch of b*****s!

I agree. Canucks fans can be such assholes on social media when things aren't going well. I can't enjoy a nice Instagram pic of the dog race without like 80% of the comments crying with the sky is falling takes.

Gallant was just recently fired from the Knights, and before that the Panthers. I pretty sure the Knights were on a roll when he was fired

Yeah Gallant was given a raw deal. The knights had some of the best analytics, but fleury was pretty bad early on. The knights haven't really played much different since gallant was fired, but fleury started playing better. They would be in the same position now if they never fired gallant. Show me a good coach and I'll show you a good goalie and vice versa. It's no coincidence all the coaches fired this year had goalies with horrible stats.

I do think a coach can be given too much credit or too much blame precisely for that reason. Wasn't green in coach of the year talks while markstrom was rolling? He hasn't suddenly become bad while markstrom is hurt. We just haven't been getting enough saves lately and I love demko, but he had a bad road trip that I can't excuse. Yesterday, he played well and I felt so bad for him how it ended cause it was looking like a great bounce back game for him.

NHL HQ will merely find some excuse to lessen the penalty...mark my words.

No excuse will be required because Parise has a legit injury history, so will finish his career on LTIR no problem. You have to remember Luongo could have easily gone the LTIR way too, but the panthers asked him to retire instead because they preferred that for cap reasons.

Oh, but one caveat is like the canucks the wild will be hit the hardest by cap recapture and not the Isles, so it'll depend on what big Lou tells Parise to do.

Wanted him to go to the Isles as well. However, considering the coaching style there, his offence would have been stifled, which may not have been on his best interest. Also, while I love the Isles, I think the Rangers future is brighter long term than the Isles is.

True. Sometimes it's hard to tell how much of the isles lack of offense is due to their talent or the system they play.
