  1. That is her right, and she should *not* be punished by the government or any law enforcement for doing so. I would be absolutely mortified if that were the case. I absolutely loathe the crackpot loonies who spout that nonsense, but I refuse to endorse anyone thinking they should be 'silenced' for standing on their soapbox in the square peddling their nonsense. The only difference between 'the old days and now' is the area that the soapbox reaches is much larger. There were loonies back then too, but they were limited to the square or area in which they could stand and grow tired shouting. Now, with the internet, loonyism is magnified and can reach more people. That is "the" problem. Not the loonies themselves. Now back to the original point, I believe she should be free from incarceration or any other form of 'punishment' as doled out by public entities. She has broken no laws, and nor should there 'be' a law surrounding it. However, as a private enterprise Disney should/do also have the right to ensure their image (whatever it is) is protected according to their desires. If they feel that canning her was correct for their image (and that it was part of her contract to uphold their image) then that is their prerogative. If people have a problem with how they do things, they can cancel the disney+ sub and stop watching their stuff, or start a competitor who permits/employs people who want to do that sort of thing.
  2. It comes down to who the other teams expose, and what Holtby looks like "towards the end of the year". If there are better goalies around they might opt for the D-man on a secure contract. They gotta take somebody, and the list of names is gonna be pretty weak from the Canucks aside from EmptyNetSpecialist Loui Eriksson, The Giraffe, and The (Washington) Save. The rest are 'potentially' Probably/basically Roussel, Beagle, "Ferland" possibly (depending on Injury condition), Motte perhaps, and Luongo's retirement cap hit.
  3. Which given the players the Canucks "must" expose at the ED, he's going to be near or at the top of the list in terms of quality available. They could always take Loui I guess.
  4. I think you are inferring things that are mistaken. "Every" GM learns as they go. For example, Tallon 'should' have been shown the door for bungling the RFA contracts by your argument (and was effectively demoted by Chicago) but... mistake or not he got the job done despite how garbage Chicago was when they started - and due to what he did, Chicago won. Just because other franchises decide to do things a certain way, which is 'rapid fire dismissal of personnel' doesn't necessarily mean we should follow suit. As far as "we've already seen Toronto lap us" - Umm... How deep have the Leafs gotten in the playoffs in the last 50 years again? At least they're good in a 6 team league. Oh, no, 7 teams this time. And they'll still get killed in the playoffs. When you say New York, I presume you mean the Rangers... or is it the Islanders, neither of which are setting the world alight this year with their roughly .500 records each. As for the 'bloat' after Loui, I'm not sure there's a ton of it. It seems like a lot, because every guy is 'about a mil' too high - which is probably about 6m too high in total salary (ignoring Loui) - but at the time of most of the signings, this team was so dismal that attracting anybody to play here would have been difficult. Results matter, and we were not a 'highlight' destination like the Rangers or Tampa... so you've got to pay to get the guys worth playing. The two real options were: Pay for guys, or "be the Oilers" and throw the drafted kids to the sharks to see who floats at the end of it. I suppose the third option would be "Keep playing Chaput and Megna" but... no. This year is definitely a pain year due to Luongo and the flat cap via Covid - neither of these things were Benning's doing. There is a lot of dead money leaving the books this year. Probably the only thing you're correct in saying is that it isn't a vacuum. Every GM is going to make mistakes, I'd rather keep the guy who has drafted relatively well and has made a few hindsight-coloured mistakes that are easy to learn from rather than empty the cannister and go get a new one who will make different mistakes. Perhaps better, perhaps worse. Jim should be on "thinner ice" than when he started, but I don't see a reason to toss him overboard yet. The coaching staff may yet need a total overhaul though, covid or not, if they are failing to motivate properly or the systems don't improve.
  5. The 'missing picture' here for the fire JB crowd; he's made mistakes that are haunting us now. For sure. Too much money, too much term on some guys who really didn't deserve it / unexpected fast rise of new talent. There'll be nobody more aware of that than him. Every mistake is a learning lesson. So you want to fire the guy who has already learned these lessons and mistakes to bring in a new guy to make new mistakes while "making his stamp on the team"? Now, if after what he's learned, he goes out and tries to sign an Eriksson or Skinner-like deal to some other player because reasons, he should be pitched out the airlock immediately. But I think it would be counter productive to toss the guy at this point. The players on the ice should be getting this done. The effort they showed last night, even in the losing cause tell me that they are CAPABLE of doing it, but simply "aren't" for some reason. If that's the coaches, then they need to go. If it's the players pouting, well, they need to suck it up. Welcome to pro sports, where your best friend might get traded suddenly and without warning because a deal showed up. It's tough for the 'young guys' who have never experienced that sort of thing but it's the new reality and the price of making millions a year.
  6. He got his Eriksson contract. He's got a 'see it out' contract on a team headed for a rebuild despite their goal/aim to 'not do that properly'. Other than personal pride he really has nothing to play for anymore / get better for at this point, and they aren't a cup challenger. We already have one of those in the taxi squad.
  7. Some people have to a) know it all and 2) have the last word to 'be right'. Those people are what Gene Wilder finally referred to as the 'salt of the earth' folk in Blazing Saddles.
  8. Leafs are ----> that way. Reading posts on here sometimes reminds me how lucky I am to not be a pretentious jackass.
  9. That was my point. Malhotra is running the PP in Toronto, instead we got... this guy.
  10. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/power-play-dominance-just-one-aspect-malhotras-early-impact-leafs/ Oh, if that wasn't good enough... I figure the point is clear here. And on the "let go" aspect - If you've got a 'junior' job and somebody offers you a senior job up the ladder, and the place you already work for doesn't do the same... are you gonna stay? The fact that 'other teams' were offering the same thing is telling. Of course you're gonna go to one of them unless there's alternative reasons to not go, usually family.
  11. It's not about the faceoffs. I'll give you one guess as to who is running the powerplay in Toronto. The one that is actually good. We could have kept him for that role, but we went with the guy whose ideas were stale 10 years ago the first time around. "The devil we know". If it's the devil why... keep it?
  12. The player changes haven't been the biggest issues imo. It's Manny. TO got Malhotra, we lost Malhotra. TO's Powerplay is dynamite. Ours can't score on anyone except Ottawa. Oops.
  13. Our goals for per game is good. It's that goals against, that's what gets ya. So don't take penalties (lol), and "At least it isn't Montreal" edition. No Tyler Toffoli.
  14. Hughes plays hyper offensive, so he needs a guy who will just "be steady" and can cover when an inevitable pinch goes bad. A "think no offense" stay home kinda guy. Benn seems to be very comfortable with that role, and it suits his ability and size very well as well. If the shoe fits, as they say. Tanev was obviously amazing at that role, but, times change and players move on. Solid stay-home guys aren't as easy to find as they once were either.
  15. It's bad form to say that word when it's your team guarding one. The opposite is true when the other team has one and you're trying to break it. See, they scored, and it's because you said it. It's known as very bad luck.
  16. He just likes talking to the penalty box guy. It's the only time they get to catch up. Or else he *really* wants to practice playing right wing.
  17. He's deceptively good at it, didn't get credit in Washington because he'd be "third" assist - Holtby up to Carlson to Backstrom to Ovi... and Goal. He's not a "Turco" type at handling the puck, but he's faaaaar better than anybody we've had since probably McLean at it. Certainly not the "Diamond-making Clench" we all got when Luongo left the crease.
