  1. People whine all the time on here when anyone suggests Makar is better than Hughes. Like it couldn’t possibly true lol. People also still whine that Hughes should have won the Calder (which was awarded to the right person imo). Giving the opinion that people are butthurt about something is typed a hundred times a day on this forum. If I had said Makar supporters are butthurt that Hughes is better than Makar no one would have batted an eye at it. Most would upvote it tbh. So it’s not about saying people are butthurt, which is a general comment anyway. It’s about saying people ON A CERTAIN SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT are butthurt. Funny how I can’t call people butthurt in general (not aimed at a specific person) about a hockey related thing on a hockey forum but you can personally insult my reading comprehension without getting the gears for it. Interesting.
  2. So am I allowed to say on CDC that I think Makar is better than Hughes offensively, defensively, in terms of impacting his teams win/loss results, etc? Let me know if that is outside the lines too.
  3. He is not going to have much choice. 13 mil or so dead cap for 3 years. Think about how much the Canucks improved while carrying that much dead weight cap. Not much at all.
  4. Practice time and a healthy roster both mean this could be good for the Canucks.
  5. They won back to back cups. Pretty sure that buys them a little bit of leeway on their prospect pool and trading picks. The Canucks have been bottom feeders for 8 years and still traded a bunch of picks over that time frame. Which do you think produced a better return on traded picks? Before you say but Miller, OEL, Garland, how about the team wins something before we judge how great Benning trading high 1st rounders was. The funny thing is, the Penguins minor league system is not that much more barren than the Canucks is.
  6. Because people here are so insecure about him being a great young player that they have to try to suggest he is a worse player than Hughes? People here have never gotten over the fact that Hughes lost the Calder to him.
  7. I never said Hughes couldn’t or wouldn’t possibly eclipse Makar. I said Makar is the better player right now. Which, sorry to tell all the butthurt people here who can’t handle it, is absolutely true. Hughes still has a ways to go to eclipse Makar. Let’s hope he does. Both are great young players.
  8. Alf, it’s Christmas. I really hope you put down the crack pipe for at least one day.
  9. No way. Chychrun is awesome but unless they are getting rid of OEL he is not filling a need on the roster while destroying young winger depth and future assets that could be used to fill right side D and center holes.
  10. So people that are fans of the Canucks can’t be fans of other teams/players? Thats the message Alf sends out. Sorry to say but being a fan doesn’t mean you can only like your own players.
  11. How was I criticizing Hughes. I said he is a tremendous talent that is only going to get better. The fact I think Makar is currently better than him isn’t slagging on Hughes at all. It’s called being realistic. You should try it.
  12. I am a fan of hockey. The Canucks are my team but I can recognize that other talented players and teams are better. Under your logic, saying Petterssen is better than McDavid makes someone a “true fan”. In reality it just makes them an idiot.
  13. Once again (for the millionth time) being a true fan has nothing to do with unrealistically putting down better players on other teams. It just makes you look insecure about our players actually.
  14. See, my point above is proven right here. Hughes isn’t suddenly better because people can’t bring themselves to objectively assess other young guys like Makar, Chychrun, etc. Ask Sakic if he would trade Makar straight up for Hughes. The response you are likely to get should tell you which is actually better.
  15. Like always, you generally have no point. Dont you have some hair to tear out panicking about all the moves Rutherford hasn’t made yet that you are sure he would have 5 min after taking over for your hero Benning? Anyone who has watched both of them play and has a functioning brain that understands hockey would want Makar over Hughes at this point.
  16. I actually often wonder if it irritates the Sedins that they are never treated or seen as individuals, especially now that they are on the business side of things.
  17. We need to be poaching Carolina for scouts and people who can develop players lol
  18. Ya I understand that for sure. It’s pretty typical for senior management to bring in a certain amount of guys they have experience with so I am not too concerned yet. As long as he doesn’t bring in total idiots like Weisbrod I am ok.
  19. He really hasn’t made many moves yet so it’s hard to know what creativity or vision there is in his plan. Bringing in ex pens isn’t on its own a cause for concern. Let’s see what else he does before we worry too much.
  20. Who cares? The time has long moved past doing things to placate the Sedins. Their last several seasons trying to band aid the broken roster to prolong their chance at a cup was payment enough for their service.
  21. Not sure why “Sweden” still needs to be a Vancouver thing tbh. Just hire the best people. Who cares if they meet a diversity quota or are firsts in the nhl or any other non relevant criteria?
  22. If Allvin, McGarland, and Gilman are the short list, McFarland is the best candidate imo. Plus he doesn’t come with the another former pen hired vibe like Allvin or the screwed the Canucks cap for years vibe from Gilman.
