  1. I get your point but wingers are still assets and they can be dealt to acquire players in other positions such as D men.
  2. I’ve been a Canucks fan for their entire existence and this is the worst I’ve felt ever. Much worse than the Keenan/Messier era. At least with the Linden trade we got some valuable pieces back including Todd Bertuzzi (re the birth of the WCE era). It’s just more and more of the same with little hope for the future (lack of a solid prospect pool, no cap space, etc.). I find myself fast forwarding through my recorded games. A lead consistently turns into a loss. For the past 10 years or so, there’s been no focus (the “no plan plan” as Ray Ferraro had said). Recently, management appears to have casted aside Bo, their Captain, and criticized a coach that had turned around a team spiraling downward. In my opinion, the bubble Canucks were an anomaly as the only reason they survived was because of spectacular goaltending (the shots against were terrible then and they still are). They haven’t addressed their defensive shortcomings. I don’t see a light on the horizon. I was hoping for a cup before I die but that seems unlikely unless there is a clear change of direction. The owner seems content with mediocrity provided they can maybe squeak into the playoffs. I don’t want any more of that. I’m still supporting the Canucks as I always have. For now though, I will be cheering on the other Canadian based teams in the hope that one will lift the cup in 2023 for the first time since 1993.
  3. To get Mangiapane for Boeser, it would probably be the Canucks giving up a draft pick.
  4. I can’t see an opportunity to trade Miller at his $ and term unless we retained salary. I wish we could, then keep Bo but I don’t see that happening.
  5. Impressive win. Maybe this team has turned the corner. I hope so. Great two-way play!
  6. Great game Canucks! Great to see Spencer Martin get another win. He deserves the next start. The defensive structure was actually good tonight unlike most other nights. Lazar (a Salmon Arm boy) is the type of player we needed for the board battles. We missed him when he was injured. Mikheyev is good defensively too. Ethan Bear is looking solid and had a nice goal. A good pick up from Carolina. Another good game by Petterson, Hughes and Schenn. Myers needs to avoid taking those unnecessary penalties. Anyway, I really liked to see the improved defensive play. Now, can they repeat that in Vegas.
  7. Best game of the season so far. I miss seeing Burroughs out there but Bear is looking better each game. Good to see Boeser get two goals. Schenn and Hughes were good. Demko had his best game of the year, by far. Great work by Lazar. However, I’d like to see less than 35 shots (Kings had 37) against us. Vegas will be a big challenge. I hope we can keep winning.
  8. The fans were misled that we had a playoff team. For the past couple of years, I’ve felt the same - this team is not good enough and they would be lucky to squeak into a playoff spot. The 40 to 45 shots a night against was not a recipe for success. Markstrom and Demko saved our bacon night after night. We are a soft team to play against. Weak on the boards and we lose too many puck battles. Also, we need a young big strong true top 2-3 RHD (and that’s not a shot at Schenn who I like). We need at least one more good young top 4 D. We need stronger wingers who will win puck battles and come away with loose pucks. Then, maybe with some good complementary players (like Kuzmenko) and one of Horvat or Miller to play centre with EP, maybe then we could be a solid playoff contender. I’d definitely keep Hughes too (D like that don’t come around often). We also need much stronger team defence. If we don’t make those changes (through the draft and trades) unfortunately, we are destined for more pain. By the way, after following this team for 52 years, I hope I’m wrong and this team can turn it around without having to do a rebuild. This is just my opinion.
  9. LA, Rangers, Detroit and Montreal are rebuilding quickly and they look pretty good - at least contending for a playoff spot. I’d be happy with any of their rosters. With a revitalized Demko, Hughes and EP, I think we should at least have a playoff team in 2 to 3 years. This is assuming that we have a couple of top 5 to 15 1st round picks in the next few years.
  10. And Stecher. What really really bothers me is not that we lost all of them but we lost all of them for nothing - no returns. If possible, I would have tried to keep some of those guys. Keeping Tanev, Stecher and Toffoli would’ve been good for veteran leadership for our young players.
  11. I sure hope it will be interesting because it hasn’t been very interesting for the past year. I expected more from JR and PA. Signing Miller for 7 more years was their biggest mistake so far. Should have traded JT for a top 2 or 3 RHD or at least a prospect and 1st round pick. I would keep Bo if possible though as I think he would be harder to replace. I continue to hope as I’ve done for the past 52 years but I don’t think this team is constructed well enough to make the playoffs let alone contend for a cup. I’d be OK with a rebuild. I’d keep Hughes and EP and maybe Demko (assuming he rebounds) but everybody else is expendable.
  12. Reportedly, Petry requested a trade last season. Montreal gets a cheaper solid LHD (Matheson) who is 6 years younger. Makes sense. The Pens time is still now whereas Montreal’s time is a few years away.
  13. This is a good contract for all concerned and I expect Brock to have a strong season.
  14. Prayers to Brock and his family. It must have been very difficult for him to strap on the skates many nights. He’s a quality guy and I hope his next season is great. RIP Duke
  15. True. That would be a good comparison. That would be a good trade for us but I can't see the Rangers parting with Lafreniere. Lafreniere has performed well in the playoffs this year and he is only 20 years old. I don't know why a young Rangers team would want to give up on him now. I see Miller going to a team that is already a Stanley Cup contender (or at least a top 6 team). I don't think the Rangers are quite there yet but they are close. I know that we really need D prospects but a Lafreniere trade for Miller would be too good to turn down (anytime you can add assets that can be kept or traded is a good thing). We need to get additional young players that fit in with the age of our core.
  16. I disagree with all the hate directed at Myers. You need to put the salary aside. Our D would be much worse without him. I double checked and he has the best +- on the team at +16. Schenn is next at +13 then Hughes at +7. Like all our D, Myers has the odd gaff but he is solid defensively all things considered. I hope we keep him next season. Plus we need his size and he is a good skater.
  17. I don’t know about that. Things can change quickly (look at LA & Anaheim). For a player’s last contract, it’s all about the money usually.
  18. I think it would be closer to 7 annual average to keep Bo given his scoring, faceoff percentage, versatility, etc. I just don’t think under 7 gets it done (but that would be great if it did). I’d sooner pay Bo 7 mill rather than pay Brock 7 (any day).
  19. Great game by Alex Chiasson, Petey and Horvat. Also, I really liked OEL, Burroughs and Schenn’s game. The guys should be very proud of their last two games.
  20. Disappointing loss. Time for rebuild-lite. Keep Petterson, Hughes, Demko, Horvat and maybe Miller (so so on Boeser). I’d like to keep Garland if we can. After the losses this weekend, the playoffs are a pipe dream. It’s too bad but reality has caught up with us even though the boys pushed hard under Boudreau. We need stronger D, more size, speed and grit.
  21. Can’t we keep both please? I was listening to Donnie & Dhali and some misinformed person texted in that players like Motte are a dime a dozen. From my many years of watching hockey (and playing beer league), that is so wrong. I wish we had a few more Mottes on the team. He drives that 4th line and I think he has helped Lammiko and Highmore improve their game. I love that 4th line as does Boudreau.
  22. Good game but a slow start. Without some A1 saves by Demko, the Caps could’ve run away with it (sorry Alf). Good game by Bo and Hamonic. Not impressed with Hogs taking needless penalties in the offensive zone. He needs to be stronger on the boards. Love the big hits by Schenn. The D played pretty good. Goofy reaction from Kuznetsov when he flops down on the Myers hit. His flappy wings need to be clipped. I guess Myers isn’t allowed to hit anyone. Just disappointed that we couldn’t close the game down and get the 2 points but we made a great comeback and got the single point.
  23. Yep. You’re damned if you do (sign him @ 9 mill per for long term) and damned if you don’t sign him (given the production he delivers). In the perfect world, we only sign him for 4 or 5 years. But this isn’t a perfect world. Why would he sign here for 9 mill for 4 years when, on the open market, he could get 9 mill per year for 6 or 7 years (or longer)?
