  1. Nah I think burrows still has gas in the tank yet. Getting Iginla just boosts our depth that much more. Now you got burrows(who plays great no matter who he's with) on the second line helping a motivated Bonino transition to a new team and showing Kassian how bring it consistently every shift in a top six role. Then you push Higgins and Hansen down to be premier 3rd liners to groom Horvat or Vey in the nhl. An Iginla addition actually could put us in contention. I gotta think we'd have a bit of wiggle room at the deadline too if things were looking good. We'll probably have the space to make an addition for the push. If we do end up being a playoff team I sure as hell want burrows on it. Sedin Sedin Iggy Burrows Bonino Kassian Higgins Vey/Horvat Hansen Matthias Richardson Dorsett That's a pretty good top six that has Jensen yet to be added. A damn good 3rd line assuming one of those kids can take the centre job, if not Matthias will do. Then a 4th line made up of lower end 3rd liners. Sign iggy 2-3yrs 6million per and we're a goalie away from making some noise.
  2. God I can't wait to tell the kiddies this story when I'm old and in a rocking chair Jim Benning strolled into Vancouver with sunglasses on and a cigarette in his mouth, hired the Calder Cup winning coach and traded our whiny star who only wants to go 2 teams for a young centre that actually had more points than him.. Then he went out and got the twins their dream linemate, Jarome freakin Iginla..
  3. I watched Chara in junior and he wasn't very good. My friends actually got to practice with him a few times when their minor team would have some cougars at practice. They said he was a terrible skater. They were like 14 and blowing by him. Thing about Chara is he learned how to skate well enough and use his size and reach. This tryamkin fella already has decent skating according to the scouts so he's just gotta figure out how to be a mean SOB and perfect his 12 foot reach stick checking.
  4. I'll give u a hand with that haha if this guy turns into a monster #1 we are winning the cup with Demko Horvat McCann Virtanen Kassian Shinkaruk and the gang. Captain grey beard Bieksa raising it
  5. Virtanen and Ritchie are both good picks. Despite what the internet scouts say(and I was all for Ritchie too) Jim Benning felt Virtanen was the better pick. I, being a full Ritchie supporter before the draft believe Mr Benning. Throwing your arms up and damning the pick before any of them even start their offseason training is downright idiotic. Jim Benning and our own golden boy Trevor FREAKING Linden made the pick lol. For the love of god, close the YouTube hockey highlight tabs and have a little faith in these men.
  6. I disagree. I think he's the perfect age because he is that old. Looking at the ufa market, getting a top player you likely have to commit to 6 or 7 years. That's what I don't want a 7 year signing of a 28yr old. A couple years of iggy would be golden while we transition into the new era. Basically gives us a chance to compete next year without throwing a hefty contract at a big name free agent. All the sudden Bonino isn't forced to play with Jannik Hansen and has a chance to shine.
  7. I absolutely love the idea of getting iggy. It's exactly what we need in free agency this year. You won't land anybody good in FA unless you sign a hefty contract. High dollar/max length ect. That's what I'm worried about, signing a vanek or someone long term and watching them fade in the playoffs. You go after Iginla and you get half the commitment as the younger free agents. He might only want 1 year to see how we bounce back, that would be great. He'd be just a bridge until shinkaruk and Virtanen are ready. I'd be up for offering him whatever he wants on a 3-4 year contract. Any given deadline if we're not lookin so hot we could trade him and gain a young asset. I think he'll probably want to go to someone with a little more playoff security but hey you never know. We retooled and definitely have a shot at bouncing back depending on our new coach and whatever happens in net. Iggy has tremendous respect for Trevor Linden so I'm sure they'll touch base and see what it would take if possible to come here. Sedin Sedin Kassian Iginla Bonino Burrows Higgins Horvat Hansen Matthias Richardson Dorsett
  8. Virtanen McCann Demko Bonino Sbisa Dorsett Vey. What a haul so far!
  9. I'm thinking corey perry if all goes according to plan haha. His shot isn't just really good, it's absolutely incredible. Watch his highlight reel real closely and you see all the little things he does with his shots. He gets them off with the weirdest slips and fakes.
  10. Man, Barbashev would be crazy. Snag both McCann and Barbashev 10-15 picks late.
  11. We trade the 36th for Chris Kelly and Boston's first? Lol Chris Kelly isn't some ahl bum they can't trade.
  12. I'm on the fence about it. I think if we end up with another first in the Kesler deal, I would mind taking the flyer on Ho Sang with our second. I weigh it out pretty evenly when It comes to.. Will Ho Sang mature up/will another 2nd round pick even make a solid nhler. It's a crapshoot either way.
  13. Ho Sang is an interesting one for me. I think he's a sure fire NHL'r but I could see him as one of those trade demanding 21yr olds when he's put on the 3rd line. If he's around at 36 it's a tough decision. He's 10 times the hockey player of anyone else ranked there and could actually be a first line star in the league... I think your basically taking the chance on will this kid wake up and realize the world doesn't revolve around josh. The payoff could be huge and he could be your best player some day. Do you take the chance on him or do you go for a another kid who will probably make it but as a third liner?
  14. I don't think it's fair to compare anyone to booth, really.. Torts was right, booth is a weirdo haha. He seems like he's that guy you worked with that was way too overly nice, smiled too much on Monday, invited you to bible study every week knowing you'd decline and always told you nice things about yourself. Then you'd look across the room 10 mins later and he's already making another co worker uncomfortable. Virtanen probably keeps it a lot realer than booth ever did.
  15. Shinkaruk and the 6th for Reinhart is a no brainer to me. We'll get another shinkaruk, possibly even a better one in the Kesler deal. You will not get another chance at a Reinhart unless we tank again even harder. We have never really had a true number one high end Canadian centre. If it costs shinkaruk and Nick Ritchie so be it, get it done Benny.
  16. You must have missed a few Ice games this year I guess. 105 points in 60 games suggests he broke a few games wide open. You don't kick back, smoke a cigarette and rack up that many.
  17. Derailing career lol? He's a freaking kid still and he's ranked very high in his draft year. He's not even my first choice but I'd say his career is right on track.
  18. Trent Hunter? Haha, guy was drafted in the 90s we could probably get him for a 7th round pick if you really want him
  19. Yeah me too. I forgot to add that. I try to keep Horvat and Kassian as untouchable. Reinhart Horvat 1-2 punch down the middle would be unreal. I just go all in if I'm benning and try my damnedest to get it back in the Kesler deal. I'd really target pouliot after that. Then you got your top 2 centres of the future, Your puck moving star offensive dman and your tough top six scoring winger in Kassian. After that your just drafting BPA and stacking prospects to fill the easier to fill holes.
  20. Yeah I'm totally down for putting a package out for Reinhart. It would be nice to only give one young asset with the sixth and a vet. If it takes 2 young assets plus the sixth I'm cool with it as long as it comes back in the Kesler deal. Chances at top end talent don't come around too often. If we can get the kid we totally should.
  21. Yeah man,we'd have to cough up good young players though. Could see Tanev Jensen and the tenth overall from an Anaheim trade maybe throw in a vet like Hansen if it gets it done. Get Etem 10th and a d prospect for Kesler. Walk out of the draft with Etem Reinhart and Ritchie
  22. Yeah really depends on the scouts opinions on these kids. I don't watch them enough to say what would be the best route. I will say it would be nice to trade for almost a sure bet 1st line centre. We really don't have that high end can't miss guy in our system. I think I lean towards just going all in on the kid. There's a chance you could be better off standing pat and holding a ton of prospects. One or 2 could surprise but you really don't lose just going in for Reinhart because he's kind of a guarantee to be a star. He's also good enough to probably jump right in the lineup. If we went with Nylander he's not going to get to mooch mentorship while the twins are still in the tail end of their prime. I think grabbing Reinhart and getting him in right away to learn from our best players could be huge. If we have to trade Tanev to get it done then just make sure your getting a young dman in the Kesler deal or draft the best available real soon. Put corrado in the lineup and call er a day.
  23. I think if we trade Kesler at all we can afford to comfortably trade for Reinhart. If we get at least 3 young assets of any kind it we can afford to offer Jensen or Tanev as we might have Bennett or whoever coming our way to take their place. The deal essentially becomes Kesler for Reinhart.
