that was the last prelim game for them.

so the US made the quarter final correct?

It's hard to say Demko will get to play in the next game if they didn't even try him in the prelims <_<

Perhaps they should have gave Demko a game to see if he could do any better USA is pretty much well boned they lost their last 2 games to mediocre teams cause their goalies were meh.

I haven't been watching the tournament, is the US eliminated now?

Still good experience beung around pros during practice and such.

That's what I'm sayin.  He's a young guy who got to go to Russia over summer break.  that's pretty cool.  He is a real person afterall; he wants to experience life too!

Yup, but they'll have an agreement in place ready to be signed, sealed and delivered for July 1st when the contract year for the NHL rolls over. Maybe they announce it in May or something though depending what's left to get done.

But Stecher will have to really impress to make the NHL next year. If he does excel so much as to make it then I won't quite be "J.R. :(", but if he does it without us having improved our D at all (or what we do have is terrible in camp) then I certainly would be.

but but!  that would be tampering!  :o

Yeah. Don't know which division was stronger, etc, but both Connor and Boeser had solid freshman years. Connor also signed quickly, hopefully next season Boeser can have a jab at the Hobey Baker. We can see if he's able to carry the workload being the number player their next year.

Hockey East is quite a bit stronger than the Big 10.

Oh looks like he signed a 2yr deal with Dallas but only played off 1 year of it so he's still under the 2nd year of that contract at just over $1 mill per year.

he played in Edmonton after Dallas so I doubt that's the case.

McNally stayed in school all 4 years because he was focused on getting an education in case he wasn't good enough to make the NHL.

It was a good move for him since it's unlikely he makes it. I don't see Boeser having that same thought process.

Tate Olson looks like a better prospect now too so really, no harm no foul.

In case my sig didn't give it away.... I used to be a pretty big Avs fan too. Forsberg, Sakic, Roy etc...they were a damn good and entertaining team.

I was always a Canucks fan first though.

If we re-sign Hamhuis, IMO we need to move one of Edler or Sbisa.

So true.  If you grew up on hockey in the late 90s you were probably either a red wings or Avs fan.  and if not a fan of one, you definitely picked sides in that battle.

Hey all, UND fan/grad that has been perusing around the forum to see what Canuck fans have been thinking about Boeser over the past month or two.  I've read a lot of misinformation about Brock's decision to come back to school and thought I could give a little bit of background into how this works since I've seen this song and dance play out numerous times over the years in Grand Forks.

First, regarding Boeser as a player.  He is not Toews and if people are thinking that's the case they will be sorely disappointed.  His absolute ceiling is going to be Parise but its much more likely he ends up as a more offensive, less physical version of Oshie.  His shot is obviously NHL ready right now but it was only in the playoffs that he really started to use his body consistently.  His skating has improved but still needs some work.  He will stay in Grand Forks over the summer and come back even better next year.  Easily projects as a top 6 but has a very good chance to be a top 3 guy with all star potential.  For relatively recent UND players I would rank them as follows:

    1. Toews

    2. Parise

    3. Boeser

    4. Oshie

    5. Nelson

As far as going back to school hurting his development, in my opinion, that's compete garbage.  UND is arguable the best non professional development program in the world (including any MJ programs).  Look at what Boeser's line might look like next year, as it sounds like Schmaltz might come back for a 3rd year.  Boeser-Schmaltz-Jost.  That's (3) 1st round draft picks on one line.  Is there any other team in the world that can say that?  Boeser is getting trained in NHL level facilities by NHL level trainers and is surrounded by both future and former NHL players/coaches.  Toews, Parise and Nelson all played 2 years at UND.  Oshie played 3.  Boeser is in a perfect place to continue to develop his skills but is now going to be put into a leadership position.

Lastly, there is ZERO chance that Boeser stays 4 years and becomes a free agent.  Boeser will be gone after next season and might not see a day in the AHL.  On a side note, it sounds like Stecher announces that he goes pro tomorrow and will sign with either Vancouver or Edmonton.  Also, if you want a sleeper to keep an eye out for then I would keep my eyes on UND freshman Rhet Gardner. Big bodied center at 6'2 215.  Tough, physical, skilled.  Was very impressive in his first season and was undrafted.

I've been wondering about him.  he has been good in every game I've seen UND play in.  I'm hoping he'll still be around in the latter half of the draft.

Why are people shocked that he's going back? Wasn't that the plan all along?

I see no harm in it at all. He's returning to a top program with a great track record of developing players (and one that's already done wonders for him) where he'll get to play alongside an excellent prospect in Jost. I don't see the issue here.

    The BJ line?  :o

Is it time to close this thread? He hasn't been a prospect since training camp.

soon.  the rule seems to be keep the thread open through the guy's rookie season.

  12. that quote is a little off, or written in a way that misleads readers IMO.  Northeastern had injuries and Gaudette ended up going to school early because of that, if my memory serves.  And as we all know, it took him awhile to get into the groove and start putting up points.  So to say he didn't have any trouble with the transition is misleading.

not to detract from Adam but he had more adversity than this article would suggest.  he didn't get on the team because his name carried a lot of weight by any means.

He reminds me a little of a very young Cam Neely. You can throw some Claude Lemieux traits in the mix as well.

He's a 'real exciting' prospect all in all. Do 19 year old guys really like The Bieb though?  It does suggest he's a very young 19 to me.

bieber is one of the biggest names in entertainment.  not saying he's good but I'm guessing pop culture has surpassed people like you and I.
