  1. You're telling me a canadian market NEEDS playoff revenue. Haha not likely my friend. Aquiline is full of crap. Go for the high pick!

The Canadian market has nothing to do with it. Aquilini's crippled financial state after his divorce, coupled with poor investments, does.

  2. We traded the best goalie in franchise history for this guy, so he better develop into a star!

No we didn't. We traded the best goalie in franchise history for a goaltending prospect, a depth centre, and some decent cap space.

People expecting Markstrom to replace Lu are holding too high of expectations.

  3. It is actually incredibly important that this team makes the playoffs. Not because they will do anything, but because slum-lord Aquilini needs the playoff revenue in order to give Gillis more room to work with in order to sign a decent UFA for next year.

  4. Come on Gillis, do something!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to intel from Pitt, Canucks ownership may be holding up Kesler deal. They want the playoff dough. Will make trade in summer

If Gillis thinks we're making the playoffs then he must be smoking something. Gillis please trade Kesler now, we won't get a better deal in the off season. Teams are pushing to win the Stanley Cup, the addition of Kes is HUGE. If Kesler is still here when the clock hits noon, I'm gonna flip some bricks.

COME ON GILLIS. HAVE SOME BALLS.

Has nothing to do with Gillis, as the report indicates. Aquas would be stupid to think this team will make the playoffs. Best case scenario they get a near sell-out for two games before bowing out in the first round.

Plus, getting Kesler for 3 playoff runs (by trading him now) would fetch you more in return than trading Kesler for two playoff runs (by trading him at the draft).

  5. And then what? We wait til the draft where his value will most certainly be lower?

Then wait for him to get disgruntled. Another Luongo situation would be great. Then sell him for a lot less than what we could get today or just wait til he becomes a ufa and lose him in free agency. This team appears to be going nowhere fast. If MG has approval to trade him the best move has got to be today in my opinion.

You've got to think/hope that Gillis learned from his mistakes. I don't get the argument that a player's value increases at the draft. I also don't believe that the number of trade partners would increase at the draft since Kesler has a NTC and would dictate being traded only to contenders. All contenders would be interested in adding Kesler at the deadline.

  6. I am just saying those Final's numbers aren't going to push his value up like the other poster implied. Why would a player get bonus points just for playing in a cup finals without producing? I can get trying to make the point for a player who tore it up but for one who was invisible?

If Kesler gets points for that how highly regarded is Brad Marchand who posted 5 goals, 7 points, and was a +6 in the Cup Finals?

The experience of playing in big games matters. That the point they're making. He's been there. He's had a crapty time, but he's been there.

  7. Kill twos birds with one stone, as they say.

    $9.25 mil

If they utilize all of their LTIR space and minus Sutter and Bennet then I think they may be able to though I haven't crunched the numbers.

    But...

    Dupuis $3.75

    Letang $3.50

    Martin $5.00

    Sutter $2.067

    Bennett $0.895

I think if it could happen then people might have to stop criticizing MG. Well…. wishing thinking, maybe.

  8. That is not an outlandish statement though.

Would you have, could you have predicted Burrows would be so snakebitten this year? That Daniel couldn't buy a goal out of nowhere? That Heatly would go from 50+ goals a year to literally nothing

Players slump. Losing Horvat + Kesler for one guy who could slump (yes I know he's a solid kid but anything can happen) at any point like that when there is a far greater potential return available is rather silly.

So on that note, yes I AM indeed making a case that all players can slump significantly. but wouldn't you feel better with 3 genuine chances at solid top 4 or top 6 players for their positions as opposed to just 1 single guy for basically the entire future of this team moving forward?

I shouldn't butt into your conversation, because you and I are not talking about the same deal. I would never do Kesler+Horvat for Johansen.

The deal I've proposed has been something along the lines of Kes+pieces for Johansen, Dubinsky, and a high pick/prospect.

  9. But there you go again.

ALL of the available offers rumoured include.

1st round pick. Center under 25 (asset) top blue chip prospect

No matter how good Johansen might be in 5 seasons, he could also go Daigle at any point in time.

So then you also offer our top prospect since the Sedins or Linden. So by association let us do the math.

Kesler (1st, 25 under roster player, top prospect) and Horvat (Schneider)

    For....Johansen

Now, how does that look to you?

A franchise or decade defining trade messed up will not propel this team ahead but leave it spinning its wheels or regressing.

So before you start getting all insulting and smarmy. Do the math that I just showed you and now tell me that Kesler + Horvat is a good deal for us when we only get back Johensen

You don't have to make outlandish statements to back up your point, you were doing fine in your argument until this.

Best predictor of future behavior is prior behavior. Johansen is a kid who just loves hockey. He is not going Daigle at any point in time, unless you want to make the argument that ANY player can go Daigle at any time.

  10. http://blog.triblive.../#axzz2uvvAkitn

Interesting to note that the Penguins would rather give up picks then their prospects. But it's also interesting that it sounds like that they would be willing to change that to acquire Kesler. So it sounds like there is some flexibility there.

Also interesting that IF the deal happens it might involve more pieces from both sides then just Kelser and Sutter, etc.

    From the article:

As of Monday afternoon, nothing has changed on the situation– except that the Penguins feel division rival Philadelphia, in addition to defending champion Chicago, is emerging as a top challenger to acquire Kesler.

It seems crazy to me that 'journalists' are able to get away with making statements about how the Penguins feel without providing any direct quotes from someone with the Pens who is qualified to give an indication of where the team stands. It is entirely speculative writing but written as fact.

  11. Johansen and Dubinsky are the Jackets 1C-2C, they are 1-2 in scoring on the team and 1-2 in TOI among forwards on the team. Even if Kesler takes over the 1C position who does CBJ use as their 2C..? Kesler is good but I can't see this trade improving the Jackets at all and honestly probably hurts them in the interim, and thats without the 1st rounder. You really need to look at what the other team is getting and not just what the Canucks can reap from a proposed trade.

    Kesler

    Anisimov

    Umberger

    Letestu

They also have two 2013 first round centres, Wennberg and Dano, coming down the pipe. Maybe they'd need someone coming back from the Canucks to a few holes, but it wouldn't be a substantial piece.

  12. michael douglas is so just so smarmy, i have a hard time watching his movies, so i think i may pass on The Game

although i recently re-watched Traffic (twice!) and absolutely looooved it. i loved it when it came out, and i was a bit afraid it wouldn't hold up. but it totally does.

    one of my favourites

There are countless movies that I refuse to watch simply because I liked them at the time but am now afraid that watching it again would ruin the experience. I have put off re-watching Tombstone, one of my favorite Westerns, simply because I am worried it will be too cheesy for me to enjoy anymore.

There are some movies that have the opposite effect. For example, watching Forrest Gump as a young kid and not getting all the references dropped into the movie. Re-watching it years later and actually getting all the not-at-all subtle references was something I quite enjoyed.
