  1. My buddy and I are going halfers on a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. Just waiting til we get down South where the price will go down.

On that note, anyone know why there isn't as much of a drop in price of whiskey when you go down to the states relative to other spirits (i.e., vodka, gin)?

  2. Both are still banned substances, or is there a double standard you're not willing to admit when it comes to leftists and crime?

    1. I can talk in extremes too. Homicide and theft are both criminal offences. We should treat each type of offender the same.

    2. There's a difference between acknowledging it happened and lying through your teeth about it until you cannot possibly keep up the lie any more.

    3. There's a difference between using a drug on a weekend with friends while being conscious of your decision and using crack cocaine in a drunken stupor.

    4. The crack cocaine issue is just one of about a dozen or more problems concerning Rob Ford.

    5. Any rational person understands that marijuana and crack cocaine are two different drugs with varying degrees of severity. So, you are either an irrational person or your political beliefs are forcing you to act irrationally in the name of conservatism. If your political orientation is forcing you to make stupid decisions, what does that say about your ideology?

I think one of the biggest crimes on this board is that the mods have not forced you to change your user name.

  3. Chris Hadfield ejected from movie theatre for loudly heckling Gravity

Written by Ian MacIntyreTuesday, 29 October 2013 15:58

Eyewitnesses reported that during last night’s 9:15pm Real3D screening of Gravity, a lone man (later identified as retired ISS Commander Chris Hadfield) began muttering under his breath and chuckling to himself. By the 30-minute mark, Hadfield reportedly made numerous rude comments such as, “Nice Soyuz procedure, Hollywood!” and “Oh yeah, because that’s what hypoxia as caused by rapid cabin decompression looks like you idiots!.”

“It was the damndest thing,” recounted Isabelle Tremblay. “My boyfriend and I were like, ‘what a jerk’, and he went back to talk to him. But then he came back to our seats and he was like ‘I’m pretty sure that was that astronaut guy. You know, from the news.’ So we just let him go. I mean, what do you do? An astronaut probably gets George Clooney’s character struggles a little better than I do.”

Hadfield’s alleged berating of the film continued unabated. During one crucial and deathly silent scene involving Sandra Bullock’s character’s desperate attempt to reach her vessel and avoid dying in the void of space, the man who brought honour and fun to Canadian space exploration let out a long, piercing, and altogether perfect fart.

Eventually, theatre staff was notified, and the Canadian living legend was loudly removed from the cinema. Witnesses report that he did not go quietly. One patron recalled, “The last thing I heard him yelling was, ‘Have you been to space? Because I’ve been to space!’”

    “But he’s still a hero, I suppose.”

At press time, Commander Hadfield’s family and friends were really hoping he never finds out about the 1996 horror classic: Leprechaun In Space.

  4. I am in no way condoning anyone's actions in this incident but...........I had no idea that being surrounded by bikes means you can run over(attempt to kill) people without consequence? If the driver of the SUV does not get charged for attempted murder than this is a complete joke. On the flip side those bikers asked for this kind of incident by riding around like blind ignorant fools on the streets. Everyone in this situation is to blame. Especially the fellow riders who could not recognize a situation that was escalating. How did cooler heads not prevail ???

There is no evidence that the driver 'attempted to kill anyone'. How can you think that he intended to murder anyone? He was in a dangerous situation and needed to get away. When you're surrounded by 30 bikers, you really don't have any other option.

If you believe that "on the flip side, those bikers asked for this kind of incident", then how can you also fault the driver? If people go asking for an incident and then force another individual into a high-risk situation, it is hard to see how the driver of the SUV would be culpable.

  5. like something didn't precipitate that action.

Just look at the way they were riding. They were taking up the entire highway, not just a lane. I hate when biker groups do this.

I was in the left lane once and needed to get into the right lane to take an exit. 20 bikers were all straddling one another in the right lane. I put my signal on to try and get into the right lane. Not a single biker would give me room to get into the right lane. My options were to run them over or miss my exit. Obviously I chose the latter. Still, I don't get where this sense of entitlement comes from. I guess because they are in a group they assume they are invincible and can do whatever they want.

  6. He's too scared to take a risk for a finish. Ever since getting tko'd by what's his name and losing his title.

Champions who finish fighters and do it while taking risks are better imo. Cain Valasquez is another one who's above him.

This seems to be a preference in style rather than a definition of who is a better fighter. In my mind, the better fighter is the one who can win without taking chances. It shows that they are so technically sound that they can beat anyone on a given day. Those who take risks may do so for different reasons. Silva may take risks because he is a showboat. Others may take risks simply because they are unsure that they beat their opponent on the balance of their abilities.

I don't think you can say that GSP doesn't take risks because he is 'scared'. For one, he is fighting guys who are better and thus more difficult to KO or TKO. I think GSP doesn't take risks because he wants to win fights.

  7. I'd go Pettis, Silva and Jones ahead of GSP.

All three are risk takers and finishers for the most part and still win, apart from Silva's showboating KTFO.

Being a risk taker doesn't make you a better fighter. These guys can't help but be risk takers because they don't have the type of dedication to their game plan. I don't know if GSP is a better P4P fighter than Silva or Jones, but I think the fact that he is able to win without taking risks is a sign of a better fighter.

  8. Goalies:

    Luongo

    Price

    Smith

    Defence

    Keith Seabrook

    Weber Doughty

    Staal Subban

    Pietrangelo/Hamhuis

For the forward group, I honestly have no idea. I think these guys are locks:

    Crosby

    Stamkos

    Giroux

    Tavares

    Toews

    Bergeron

    These guys are likely:

    Getzlaf

    E. Staal

    Carter

    Couture

That leaves three forward positions up for grabs

    Bubble:

    Hall

    Eberle

    Kunitz

    St. Louis

    Richards

    Thornton

    Nash

    Sharp

    Perry

    Not in the picture:

    Marchand

    Lucic

    Neal

    Benn

    J. Staal

    Andrew Ladd

The group of forwards that I'd take to Sochi:

    Bergeron Crosby Stamkos

    Giroux Tavares Carter

    Toews Richards Couture

    E. Staal Getzlaf Nash

    Hall

Obviously there are a lot of centres there, but moving from centre to the wing really isn't all that hard. The wing is a pretty easy position to play.

  9. I was wondering if someone could breakdown why it is that Horvat is rated such a better Prospect than Gaunce?

From what I have read they both seem to be projected great 3rd line centers with a possible ceiling of good 2nd liner centers

Horvat has more offensive upside. 16 goals in 21 playoff games.

  10. I'm not saying Tortorella does this ALL the time, but I think, in certain situations, Tortorella puts on his media persona in order to distract media attention from his own players.

This was how I interpreted his post-game conferences with the media last year, especially in the Devils/Rangers series. When his team played poorly, he acted like a dick. He was short and curt with the media and this resulted in the media playing the same conference over and over again, joking about how long the next one would last, etc. All the while, there was no talk about how players like Gaborik weren't scoring any goals. It seemed to me like it was a distraction technique, and if that was Tortorella's intention, it sure worked.

  11. I am a lifelong Canucks fan, Always a fan- win or lose. This is my home team, and I cheer for the home team because they represent me in the league, in the media and around the world. I'm proud of it. That is why it hard to accept this hiring. This guy is

arrogant, abusive, loudmouth, disrespectful and happy to throw players under the bus. He doesn't represent me, my city or my province. Gillis waited and waited til the coaching candidates were picked up and thought he had to take this guy because nobody else wanted to coach under him.

I may just have to cheer for my team from afar this year because I don't think my stomach could take his circus behaviour and seeing him behind the bench.

I think the team needed a new voice, and someone who could light a fire or two but torts is waaayy too over the top.

Oh really? Did the Canucks organization agree to be your representative? That's neat.
