I disagree, he is more like Boeser in that he was not willing to put in the extra effort to be a good all round hockey player. He contributed to the "Softy" era in which we finally rid ourselves of.
Cool that you got to experience being inside the Canucks locker room to see the players train.

The other option at Short (in addition to Tim Anderson) was Paul DeJong of the Cardinals. Looks like that's the way the Jays went:
Of course, the bad news here is that this suggests the team is expecting Bo Bichette to be out for a while. It also makes it less likely the team will be able to trade for an impact bat....
Would they move Bo to 2nd? I for one would welcome not seeing lobbed side-arm throws 15ft from first base (though to be fair to Bo, I think he's been a lot better this year).

Hawaii? or?
Hopefully things will get going soon with this draft. Those that picked in the top 10 or whatever, have already selected their captains, who have started tenure. But those that are picking late (25-32) might be a few days behind starting their captain's tenure. Does that matter?
Gotta be honest, I rushed naming my captain because I thought I had to. (rookie mistake perhaps)
From the CBA:
On 7/28/2023 at 11:27 AM, Gator said:Don't plan to use the morale system for the 1st season, but if it works as intended and GMs are in favor of using it, it will be used.
So it sounds like we are just beta-testing the idea for the first season.

I just signed up for a free 7 day trial with AppleTV.
You need to enter credit card details, but then you can immediately go into your account and cancel your subscription, so you won't actually get charged anything and can still keep the 7 day trial.

The Blue Jays continue to feel like a collection of good players rather than a team. Rarely are batters all going at the same time, the bullpen can squander good performances or good performances from the bullpen are wasted because starting pitching was bad enough that the team was never really in it to begin with.
I really haven't enjoyed this era of the Jays nearly as much as the Bautista/Encarnacion/Donaldson era, even if Springer/Bichette/Vladdy have similar talent levels.

Top of the 7th, ump just decided he was going to make Espinal's strike zone 7 ft wide.

I thought leaving Gausman in was the right thing to do, despite the three dingers. KG wasn't pitching poorly...the Mariners just made him pay every time he missed his spot with the fastball...
Pulling Kikuchi the day before was a mistake and it pretty much forced Schneider to leave KG in, because he had used so much of the bullpen on Friday.
Bottom line for me: I probably would have done the same as Schneider did with Gausman...Pearson and Garcia didn't do their jobs. You can't plunk the leadoff guy with a three run lead and Garcia had Teo down 0-2 and let him off the hook with a pitch that had way too much of the plate.
I can be as critical of the manager as anyone (and I was after Friday's game) but this one was squarely on the pen, IMO. One could argue that if Schneider had saves some arms on Friday, he might have had Swanson available on Saturday, but Pearson and Garcia are being paid to get those outs....
I didn't think Gausman was bad. My issue is the inconsistency with which Schneider makes decisions.

So Gaussman (who I love) hadn't pitched in 2 weeks but was allowed to stay in after giving up 3 HR and throwing 85+ pitches. Kikuchi was given just 5.1 innings and 78 pitches despite absolutely dealing.

LAK place Alex Galchenyuk on waivers.

Bassitt reminds me a bit of Marco Estrada. Not at all overpowering, just a ton of tools. Really fun to watch.

One other item of note: The Padres have DFA'd Rougned Odor. Jays fans will have to find someone else to boo tonight.
BTW: It's absolutely baffling that a lineup that has the likes of Machado, Tatis Jr., Soto and Bogaerts could be 6 games under .500....
I'm not entirely surprised that a Manny Machado team is underperforming, but that's still absolutely crazy to be that bad with that talent.

Nice outing for Berrios. Feel like more than half of his pitches thrown for balls were to Soto.
Jays' TD logo continues to be the worst mis-match to jersey in all of the MLB.

I like the idea of just an absolutely massive draft, take prospects, NHL players, whoever you want, etc. and make it a snake draft so that they same people aren't picking at the front/back end of every round.
Maybe I missed it, but after the draft, how do salaries get worked out? Is it based on NHL contracts or does everyone just become a UFA after the end of year 1?

They had kind of painted themselves into a corner there....not having anyone they could pinch run for Kirk. Luckily Lukes came through....
Hopefully that was enough.
I'm not certain that anyone should have been running in that situation, especially not Kirk, who not only arrived late, but completely missed the base on the slide lol.
As a random aside, I've been in Quebec the last couple weeks and the French broadcast is phenomenal.

....I had forgotten what that looks like....
They followed it up with another base-running mistake to restore the balance.

By being one of the most inconsistent teams I’ve ever seen in my life and having a front office whose only calling card is putting a team together that blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series.
And by bringing in veterans like Chapman who, instead of mentoring Bo/Vladdy, make the same type of baserunning mistakes as them.

Guys like Sekeres might have journalism degrees, but they are not journalists. They don't travel with the team. They don't have real sources. They don't have any unique insight into the game. They exist purely to offer Stephen A. Smith style 'hot takes'. It is easier to just ignore anything guys like Sekeres have to say. There are plenty of media members who can offer a more critical POV while also at least having some basis for their opinion. Sekeres doesn't fall into that tier.
