That's a fair assessment I guess, but to me most of the players play lazy hockey most of the time. -

Then it's worse because that would make them stupid -

Playoffs? What a joke. -
Fair enough, when I say pro I mean AHL or NHL. I don't consider leagues with big ice so you can't get hit pro hockey, but that's a me thing. I do like both players but Hoglander has enough Anton Lander vibes for me to not get too excited. I am encouraged by his commitment to fitness and willingness to engage though.

[Speculation] Canucks interested in Tyson Barrie
FlyLow_ replied to brian42's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I hope they can score 7+ per game because they'll be giving up at least 5. -
Like to see more from Jake, he's not been very good for a while now though there is a lot of that going around.

I think it's important to note that great defense pairings are largely based on chemistry. Tanev's shutdown defense is a fantastic fit with Hughes and we're seeing the ability of that pairing to move the puck is keeping Tanev out of danger and healthy. This is a pairing where both players benefit as opposed to the Edler/Stecher pairing where Edler gets what exactly from stecher? I don't think we should be so quick to move on from Tanev, or Edler for that matter when they are by far the best defenders on the team at closing down the opposition and winning 1 on 1 battles. I don't love Tyson Barrie and can't fathom throwing away more assets for a player we can't re-sign. That said I'd do a 1 for 1 for Stecher. I'm pretty high on Rafferty, I'd trade Stecher for a pick and call him up right now if it were up to me. He may still have learning to do defensively but he's got size, a shot and a better first pass than Stecher already. No idea why people are so high on Tryamkin. Wouldn't mind him being the 7th defenseman but he'd just run back to Russia.

Hoglander and Podkolzin have done what? Look I like both of them, but they aren't sure things like Elias and Hughes. We'll see what happens when they turn pro. I like toffoli but yes this is a total fail if he walks or Markstrom or Tanev walks because there isn't money to sign them. The team will plummet and miss the playoffs handily without Tanev and Markstrom because this defense outside of the Tanev/Hughes pairing is utter f*cking TRASH.
-
You miss the point. I like other prospects we have but there are no more Elias Pettersson's or Quinn Hughes' in our pipeline. There are no more sure things. The point is the more chips you have, the more will work out. Especially when given to Judd Brackett. Colorado hasn't had anything to do with rentals, paying a bunch of money in free agency or trading their picks/prospects. Look at their team and look at their prospect pool. Timing is everything when it comes to GM's. If JB can trade stecher, sutter and Benn, somehow address the defense, fix the bottom 6 and re-sign TyToff, Markstrom, Tanev, Gaudette, Virtanen, and Motte I'll be quite pleased. If he can't, what the hell does a first round exit matter when we won't make the playoffs next year?
-
They might make the playoffs but they won't win a round with this defense or the way our role players are playing. If there is truly interest in Stecher JB needs to capitalize on it now with his contract situation. I can't get behind using assets like that to dump Loui. Not with Ferland unlikely to play again. There are other avenues that can be taken. Jordie benn can be parted with, teams are desperate for defense right now. If no trades can be had, you waive him on deadline day and someone that couldn't get a deal done probably picks him up. There continues to be interest in Sutter, he could and should be moved. And of course Stecher, who should be moved immediately. That's around 12 million off the cap and you've lost nothing that you haven't already been living without for most of the season. The problem is these moves have to be made and I have zero faith in Canucks management to make them.
-
That's great, but I don't have to care about that goal. If we aren't able to re-sign the players we need to or Toffoli walks this is a disaster. First round exit or not. This team goes nowhere with this defense. If they were going to do something it should have been packaging Stecher for an upgrade on D.
-
Not sure how to feel about this one. I like the idea of Toffoli now but if we gave up what we gave up for a rental that just goes back to LA at the end of the season I might barf. The defense still needs to be upgraded before we are going anywhere, we already can't afford to pay the guys we already have next year. I can't get my head around this. If we trade out Sutter and Stecher for picks I will feel a lot better. I really hope this doesn't mean Boeser's injury is worse than we've been told. Edit** Of course it does..

I'm from BC, the Canucks are BC's team. You cheer for the team where you are from, or you're a traitor and should leave.

I think last night was the best all around game I've seen Jake play. No he didn't score, but he made smart plays all night and was physically engaged against a quite honestly terrifying Vegas team. In the past Jake would shy away from the tougher teams, which is understandable being so young. If he's starting to get some confidence in that area that will be huge for his career. Almost forgot, was hilarious though when Reeves had him by the visor.
