  1. Santo with the twins. Probably the best case scenario available.
  2. That guy clearly ran out of bud and is losing it before our very eyes. Poor fellah.
  3. Booth on the second, please. Let's give the $4.2m man some ice time.
  4. Probably close to reality. Hank and Dan both are on pace for 69 points right now without Burr. Over their careers Hank is a 70 point per season player and Dan is 68.6 points per season. Pretty much always healthy.Log huge minutes against top players in the NHL and no star winger(until Burr made himself into one).
  5. Same Torts that retired at age 27 from Atlantic Coast League hockey?
  6. 37 goal difference over a full season while Ehrhoff had 14 goals in each of his two years here with the team. This lineup is short 23 goals of scoring plus an Ehrhoff at his peak. Samuelsson,Burrows and Ehrhoff scored 58 goals between themselves that year.
  7. 2010-11 3.2 goals per game 2013-14 2.65 goals per game
  8. Burr is a huge part of this team. Free up Hansen for the 3rd so Mikey can trade his pet project for a goal scorer.
  9. I keep thinking the $4.2m BOOTH gets is the anchor, not the PPG production the twins give year in and year out.
  10. I love Salo but losing Ehrhoff and Salo hurt Eddy's game. Garrison plays well when Eddy is out. Eddy has not played well with Garrison in the lineup.
  11. Fred,Gillis had a team that came within a couple of periods of winning a cup and lost due to injuries. That was not all about being beaten physically. Bieksa gets two handed. Raymond gets can opened. Kesler gets ground down due to previous injuries/playing style. Edler gets slashed and has his fingers broken. Hamhuis tears apart his hip with a legal check. I think Gillis over reacted and immediately went for braun over skill, whereas skill is what brought him to the dance. The league is responsible for making proper calls and they were not made. No call when Bieksa was two -handed,Raymond had his back broken,Edler suffered multiple fingers broken by a vicious slash.Marchand speed bags Dan,Hank has problems with his back he is cross checked so often and yet one tenth of a second late and Rome is administered the longest suspension in NHL playoffs history. The twins are his bread and butter and he has yet to provide them with protection in his near six years on the job. Gillis lost his patience with the NHL refereeing, which I do not blame him. Unfortunately,he put his team in the hole by trading a highly marketable asset for a project that did not help in the last two years of playoffs and is only a marginal minutes player now. Not sure how that helps the twins come playoff time.
  12. Pahlsson was one of the best defensive centers in the NHL.Was.Everybody hopes Kassian can develop into a top six player one day but a top six scoring center was traded for a project.Hodgson has limited defensive gifts but a lot more offensive than Pahlsson ,who immediately retired after contributing one playoff goal for the Canucks. Two fourth - rounders and a gaping hole at center persisted after Samuel's illustrious Canucks career.Santorelli ,although a decent center, did not arrive here until two floundering years had passed.Even a Hodgson - Santorelli trade would have been seen to be madness two years ago.I would take this Santorelli in a trade for this Kassian any day. So,player for nothing for Hodgson,Pahlsson,two-fourth rounders,Sulzer and Gragnani which turned into the loss of a second rounder and Roy.
  13. My take on that trade was Gillis the player agent hated Winter the player agent and the Canucks future took a back seat to Gillis the agent. NHL scout: “It’s a terrible trade for Vancouver. Hodgson had done a good job for them this year. He was starting to show he had top-six upside…that he could step up if [Henrik] Sedin or [Ryan] Kesler went down. They didn’t have a player like him who could give them some offence outside of the top six. And centre is the most valuable position — you can’t trade a centre for a depth player with size, certainly not one who’s not a finished product.” http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/26/nhl-scout-calls-hodgson-kassian-deal-a-terrible-trade-for-vancouver/ When we consider Kassian did not impress when he came to Vancouver and did not play in the playoffs at all his first year here with fourth line minutes in his second year here it is fair to say Gillis sacrificed the existing success and immediate potential of his team's ability to win for a player that was a gamble and has years to go in his development. “There aren’t many of them (power forwards) around in the league. He still has a ways to go to develop I think into his full potential, but he is an NHL player now who is going to help us in a lot of different ways.” Trade day-Gillis on Kassian. http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/02/27/vancouver-canucks-sacrifice-cody-hodgson-for-more-grit/
  14. Gillis could have traded his top prospect for a d man or a roster player in a package trade instead of waiting six or seven years to see if Kassian can become successful as 'Bickell' has.It seemed like quite a gamble that is not yet paying a steady dividend. At least CH played.Kass sat on the bench every game in his first playoffs here and did fourth line minutes in his second -with zero points in the first round.
  15. Despite your apparent yuletide glee ,he has been injured: Sabres center Cody Hodgson left the game with 5:40 to play in the first period and did not return. He sustained an upper-body injury while blocking a shot on his final shift. Nolan said he could be out “a little while” but was awaiting an update from team doctors.
  16. I prefer a goal scorer, not any particular player. Kassian sat in the press box in his first playoffs here. He logged fourth line minutes in his second playoffs here. Bickell and Kassian - I understand the desire to have a big body that can score. Bickell has been a consistent regular season and especially playoff performer, net presence and goal scorer. Nine goals and eighteen assists in last years playoffs. 24 points in 38 playoff games.
  17. Denigrating others without adding any substance to the facts seems to be what you do best. I am hoping the moderators consider your consistent history of personal attacks and do away with your bully act in 2014. Been a year of your BS. Maybe next year.
  18. And to make matters worse management knew Kesler required surgery when Hodgson was moved. Sulzer,Hodgson,Gragnani,Pahlsson,two-fourth rounders,Roy,Connauton,a second rounder -now that is effective management. Sofa King, you forgot to check out the playoff stats of Kassian but you don't have to research ZERO. You take Kassian parked on the bench.Give me a play maker that can score.
  19. I witnessed Orr score in O/T and loved the Bruins-Cash,the Chief,Cheesy,Orr,Espo, the Turk... Original 6 team and as iconic as the other five.Watching Park and Neely,Oates and Bourque play over the years has been a treat. Boychuck,Marchand,Peverly,Thomas-not much love for these players or the way they won the cup by default by being thugs on ice. The two-hander on Bieksa,Boychuck can-opener,Edler's fingers broken,Hank's back beaten from cross checks,Thomas bowling over forwards out of his crease and no interference calls.Just looking at Marchand makes me wonder how hockey evolved into this nonsense. The Canucks lost through injuries,in large part dished out without reprisals by the NHL refs in the Finals. The NHL is losing me.Fans threatening players, beating them up,threatening their families, trashing cities. Thugs, cash and trash.I'd rather watch European hockey and see some skill on display.
  20. Is it easier to be positive when reality only exists when winning? When the losing begins it is like the end of the world and this is a 'for profit'corporation at the end of the day. This team is winning games lately and Luo is playing very well. 20 wins - 10 losses. They lose six, they win seven. I ain't getting a cut or paycheque from this franchise to comfort me when the losing begins again. Why not just try to enjoy all the players and teams that play across the league and then one can always be a winner and be happy each and every night? Beats 43 years of reality.Ever hopeful is altruistic but one has to be a masochist to be forever positive going on five decades now. Shooting for happiness is a much more altruistic goal, though.I will give you that.
  21. Don't allow a hockey thought or statistic to get in the way of the act some of you brighter lights prefer to cling to here on CDC. How about a team that bags their two seasonal explosions against a goalie that can't stand up (Rask with the flu) and against another team that should be in the AHL with Tootsie coaching them -Edmonton ? Take away those 12 goals and you've got what? Since I don't expect a reply for obvious reasons it is 86 goals over 35 games. That is 2.4 goals per game. That is what this team is on pace for scoring with a PP that can't crack the top 20 teams in the league.Luo has been lights out in the month of November and that is great but he is the deciding factor in keeping this anemic offense in the majority of games with chances to win.I would think the Olympic dreams play more in to this streak than a blowout against a team lost with the flu and five more whatever's prior to that. One win in seven games that was of significance and that was the Colorado .2.45 GPG ranks where? 11th in the West. The team is winning and that is all that matters but skewering other posters with a religion of spite feels better than doing some hockey DD. October counts.Try to accept that insignificant month in NHL hockey reality. The team is playing well but Luo is playing lights out-which he was not for the first six weeks of the season when the team was also playing well.It has nothing to do with significant scoring prowess over the vast majority of the games played since the two exceptions are explosive games played against two anemic opponents. 2013/14-2.8 GPG 2012/13-2.65 GPG 2011/12-3.04 GPG 2010-2011-3.2 GPG 2009-2010-3.3 GPG
  22. The coach called a time out because he could sense the momentum shifting and the Canucks could go down. Worked out in this case but let's give Booth the credit. So many like to ride his tail here and he bailed out a team that was lacking confidence or whatever early on.
  23. Yeah, they are saying Rask has it bad. I enjoy having the skilled players win out over the pugilists. Skill and determination is much more honest hockey than goofs with fists.
  24. I would much rather that Gillis took the high road and beat every team with pure hockey skill and class. The third and fourth lines sucked then and they are better now but the Sedins never had a winger that could protect them and Kassian is never going to be able to rise up to the greatness that is the Sedins are any time in the forseeable future. The last time we met the Bruins the Canucks beat them with a Hodgson slapper, the boys taped a 'C' on his sweater and then the Greatness of GIllis immediately traded him for a goofus pugilist that is exactly is the type of hockey player that Boston represents. Loathe that Bruins team and loathe the fact that Gilis took the low road.
