  1. He doesn't make that much, and bidding in the madhouse that is free agency will likely leave us with something much much worse. Look at freakin Clarkson.

I don't know whether you or all the other people who suggest signing Callahan are trolls or are actually being serious. You do realize he is the captain of the Rangers and he is extremely valuable to them. They aren't just going to let him go. Even if he does make it to free agency, there will be an abundance of teams trying to sign him.

My thoughts. Booth provides an aspect to this team that we are missing come playoffs. Some one to drive the net and create havoc in front of the goalie. Every year our players get held to play perimeter hockey and we get a tone of shot with little actual scoring chances.

  2. Edler, Hansen, Shinkarirk, 2014 1st for Hall.

If I were Edmonton, I would do this, this makes them better in the long run

Honestly living in alberta I can't stand hall. He's honestly no that good. He's basically a more talented booth. He's a straight north and south player with speed. Eberle is a lot more creative, better vision on the ice and with better hands, just doesn't bring any sort of physical presences. But that may also be a benefit on eberle as hall play reckless and tends to get injured

  3. HBR I honestly don't know where your getting this low hockey IQ from. Stats are such a deceiving factor, what would that say about burrows numbers who's played first line minutes. If you watch the games you'd see how he handles the puck, you'd see his IQ is actually quite good. He just hasn't been fortunate enough to have the bounces go his way this year on the assist column. The game in Dallas comes to mind. in the second he had the puck along the side of the boards, instead of putting his head down and cycling it deep or throwing it blindly in to a crowd on net. He was patient with it, made a move and then found the open Hamhuis wide open at the point and it lead to a "class A" scoring chance. This was just one opportunity recently where I noticed and said to myself wow what a smart play and theirs been plenty of other times this year we've seen that from him. His line mates right now, aren't quite set up for puck possession, they are set up for crashing and banging and getting in the ugly goal which doesn't exactly lead to a lot of assist opportunity.

Kassian controls the puck quite well and is really smart with it, for the most part he is patient with it and looks for the best opportunity, He actually plays a lot like the twins (not nearly as talented/creative/confident) but their puck control has some similarities. He doesn't run around always looking for a bit hit and finding himself out of position (edler/phaneuf). Does he make a few mistakes? Sure, tell me a players that doesn't.

In all honesty the statements you've been making about him is coming off a little blind. He was drafted in the first round, but it doesn't matter where he was drafted he was drafted based on the impact player scout thought he could become at one point in his career. There is no set date for when he's supposed to be this player. Nuchiskin has made an impact right away in the NHL but does that mean Horvat wont make a bigger one in years to come? Kassian is an offensive player with size and the ability to stick up for his team mates (similar to a bertuzzi playing style). Has he developed as fast as everyone would have liked him too? no, maybe not, but we (including our NHL coach) can see the talent in him and only hope we get to see it on a consistent bases for this team.

  4. Defence wins championships.

    Edler - Bogosian

    Enstrom - Byfuglien

    Stuart - Trouba

You can't tell me Winnipeg doesn't foam at the mouth at the thought of having that defence. They could even move Byfuglien back up to forward if they wanted to.

They don't because in the end you need a balance in your offence as well. Vancouver has shown how important goal scoring is.

We don't trade Kesler for D man do we?

The Jets could turn around and trade a Dman, maybe Buff, to perhaps Philly, for a young stud forward. The trades would have more components but it's more than possible.

such as kane who is already in their line up

  5. Know the difference between rigged and staged?

    I don't think you do

Rigged would mean giving a team better odds to winning a game (ie, powerplays/non calls, suspending better players, and

Staged would mean a pre-determined winner before the game even started, (ie other teams purposely "laying" down, purposely scoring vs non scoring to get a playoff series to more exciting moments game 7/OT, players on opposing team purposely cheating)

Wishful thinking? Or a pre-determined guarantee? Given all that 'magically happened' for them since then, yeah...

Didn't record that, but I could tell after one shift in the game the Canucks were going to lie down.

Not every game is fixed, but towards the end of the season they definitely are. To determine seeds.

lately the NHL has figured out how to ensure outcomes

  6. What about turn overs? All I saw was turn over after turn over and being lazy about it nor caring to fix his mistakes...he was looking more like a liability and I suppose the -3 reflected that. Unacceptable when other people are working their ass off or where there are others who could be called up and would put in much better effort and not be a liability and show more maturity and professionalism.

    *Bump*

    Kassian's line vs the Stars

    0 - G

    0 - A

    0 - Pts

    0 Shots

    - 3

    14:15 TOI

Let's hope he plays better vs the Hawks. He can't get much worse.

Did either of you watch the game yesterday or quickly pull up stats. The 3rd line was the only line putting effort in the game last night. Sedins were absolutely terrible couldn't even generate offence on the PP, Luongo let in some soft goals. But out of all that you got Kassian played bad. The third line was rewarded for their hard work in the 3rd as they were getting double shifted and the 1st line was bench as they couldn't even enter the offensive zone. But if you did watch you would have seen Kassian pass a beauty pass to Hammer who was wide open but couldn't finish. Just because you hate the guy doesn't mean you should be blind to the rest of the game. What are you expecting him to play allstar ever game? not even crosby plays that way.

  7. How does Edler, Hansen, Shinkaruk, and a 1st sound from a Winnipeg view point sound? I wouldn't be too keen on giving up on Shink so early but if he would get us Kane I'd strongly consider it.

    Why does WPG want edler?

    Enstrom, Bygulien, Bogosian, Truba,

Do they really need another $5 million defence for their third pairing? no. They are far worse off adding edler to their line up at the cost of Kane. They are already struggling offensively. Only way Kane gets moved, is for a young 1/2C with tones of potential. If vancouver wants Kane it will involve Horvat or Kesler going the other way. Vancouver doesn't have to pieces to land Kane.

    WPG isn't moving Kane anyway

  8. 1. Not all players are in on it. Not all owners are in on it. Why would they need to be?

Why would the players and owners stand for this. Players aren't always superstars from the moment they enter the league and they don't always remain superstar their entire career, why be they ok making tens of millions $ one year to less than a million 5 years later.

    2. Refs have more control than you think. With parity in the standings a single point can make or break a season. With goals at a premium in the playoffs, a single call or non-call can affect a game's outcome.

Again refs can impact a game not guarantee the outcome.

    3. Some injuries are faked to gain cap compliancy.

Broken backs, legs, fingers, noses, guys getting taken off stretchers. Was the Rome hit planned? We can all see the connection of the hit. Something tells me you've never played the sport before.

    4. Emotion shown by players is irrelevant in rigging. Esp. when not all players are aware of it.

You mentioned Vancouver being part of it. Kesler was a big part of our success in our cup run, yet he shows that real emotion almost every game something thats not fake. If not every player is in on it how do they guarantee success. Players not in on it can out play players that are in on it.

    5. Relationships to the players are also irrelevant. You know why Hossa went from Team A to Team B to Team C? Because he figured out which teams are going to be benefactors asap.

Relationship to players who are not in the NHL. I have friends in the NHL as I'm sure lots of other people do. Why has this not leaked, again "we’ve seen what effort and hard work they’ve went through in their lives to get to that point." . Too bad Hossa was wrong twice.

    6. Salary is irrelevant. Some chose the millions (Kessel, various Rangers players) over the winning, and that's a personal choice.

Some get paid millions because they've won. Why would Players on other teams stand for that.

    7. As said before, 82 game seasons come down to a single point at times. But yeah, the bottom-feeders? Who cares.

Exactly a single after playing 82 games. One or two games gone wrong and guess what you don't make playoffs.

    8. You cannot execute anything without taking on risk, so that's irrelevant. However, lately the NHL has figured out how to ensure outcomes more clearly. Parity in the points standings and series management via. penalty control. PED useage when required.

Learn Business 101 there is two types of risk, hockey would definitely not be a safe investment. You don't become as rich as an owner continually taking those types high risks. Also learn more about steroids, It's doesn't affect hockey IQ something very important in winning hockey games. You give players more credit than you should, you really think they can pin point their shots and goalies movement to the very .01 of a second. Get real.

    9. 'Luck' of course isn't affected. So also irrelevant. Good luck can be countered by the end. As well as bad luck.

Just like the puck going of the stanchion sending the canucks to the SCF. Can't counter that one.

You drinking way too much of kool aid. Thats ok some people enjoy a fantasy world because they can't handle reality. Reality like the fact the canucks have never one a cup, not because they league prevented them from it but because they haven't had the best teams on the ice in the league to do so. The fact of the matter if you've ever played the sport you'd never understand what it takes to win a game and all the unpredictable things that can go on throughout a game that will change the outcome. You'd also never understand the talent and skill that top NHL players have, something thats definitely not faked. On top of that, the amount of people that would have to be involved to keep something like this quite for so long it unrealistic (at least the alien theory has people claiming to get abducted). I'm done arguing with you about this, its a waste of my time. Enjoy watching your staged hockey and cheering on a team that the league apparently will not allow to win a cup.

  9. Regarding PED abuse, there are plenty of alligations from Laraque on various unnamed players. OV was implicated as well, but that was white-washed and brushed aside. But really, you just have to open your eyes to see how players are alluvasudden full of ridiculous energy and, well, rage.

The Canucks have been benefactors from PED abuse as well btw. Quite obvious that Todd Bertuzzi's heyday was fueled by PED's. Laraque elluded to that as well by talking about those who don't perform well during Olympic years. 2005-06 was the beginning of Todd's decline, just before he was dumped out of here, and he has been a shadow of his former self ever since. Roids? 90pt tremendous power forward. No roids? 40pt vacant shell. Why? Well, the Canucks at the time desperately needed the WCE to perform at an elite level 30mins a night, or they were probably going to be forced to move down south during the NHL's Canadian dollar crisis. That is a fact - Brian Burke said a phonecall was all it would take, and buh-bye Canucks.

No, obviously I am not crying boo-hoo-hoo about the Canucks in particular. We have been part of it at times.

I truly hope you are joking about that. I'll let someone any person answer to why bert's products might have went down

Insert..".I'm not saying it was aliens"....meme

  10. For the NHL to be completely rigged, one of two things would have to be involved:

a )League/Owners would have to be in on it

b )Players would also have to be in on it.

    If you chose a )

    Players

Why would the players stand for this. Not all NHL players are multi-millionaires, many of the guys are in the AHL trying to crack the NHL. We’ve seen guys have a good playoffs one year and hit a huge pay raise. Why would other players sit back and watch someone else get big dollars and yet they can’t even make it to the big leagues.

Ref only have so much power

Refs can have an impact on a game, but refs can’t guarantee the outcome. They don’t force a team to score on the PP and they can’t stop a team from scoring on the PK (like LA and BOS did to us). A player does have the ability to change the outcome of a game. We’ve seen times where a hot goalie steals a game with unbelievable saves. Refs have no control over how well a player plays.

If the “b )” players are all in on it, then how do you explain:

    Injuries

If you just watch the game you can see the hard work that is involved in winning a hockey games. Players putting their bodies on the line to stop a puck from going in. What about the guys that are suing the NHL for injuries they sustained while playing? Would they not have had a contract stating all the dangers involved? In not then wouldn’t they just come out to the public about the NHL being rigged. Did Raymond not break his back last year’s playoffs? Did Kesler not need off season Surgery? If the injuries were fake then you’d have to have hospitals and doctors in on it as well or else you’d for sure have even a nurse leak something.

    Emotion from the players

Did you see Iginla’s finger after the Kesler fight, that kind of emotion and anger isn’t stage. Any person who’s played anything competitively,(even a board game) will understand the emotion that flow through you when you want to win. It’s so noticeable when one player simply outworks their opponent in the corner to drive the puck to the net and score. The tears of joy in a players eyes when they win a cup. If you mistake that pure joy from a players hoisting the cup is acting then all these guys should be getting Oscars.

    Relationship to the players

NHL players are ordinary people with friends and family. We all know people who play in the league, we’ve seen what effort and hard work they’ve went through in their lives to get to that point. It’s not to finally get to the NHL and let the league dictate the outcome of who wins and who loses.

    Salary

Again why would other players stand for this watching one person make 10x the amount of their own salary. Wouldn’t this conspiracy have been leaked through numerous (hundreds of thousands) of sources by now.

    82 games in a season

So much happens throughout each game. To think everything is staged on it would be insane. Every shift would have to be pre planed in order to guarantee the outcome. , we’ve all seen the effort a simple shift with a big hit has on a game. It wakes up the crowd bringing energy to the building. It every shift wasn’t pre planned players would be skating around with little emotion and effort. The WWE is easily seen from a camera how unreal it is and they wrestler are paid actors. These players aren’t actors, in a fight we can clearly see a punch connect. We can clearly see the danger of a guy going head first (or leg first like Stanton) into the boards. We see the affect injuries have on players long term not only in the NHL but throughout all levels of hockey. Are they in on it too?

The High Risk of the game

If a game was to be staged then everything would be extremely high risk. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of business knows that High risk investment rarely turns out and is not viable business strategy. Don’t understand high risk?

-If Luongo is .1 seconds slower sliding across the net in game seven against the hawks, canucks don’t win and go to the cup finals. If sharp fands on the puck or accidentally break his stick causing the puck to go in another direction and it sneaks into the net, canucks don’t win and go to the cup finals.

-If Boucher trips and falls when Christensen is shooting in last regular season game shootout and the puck goes in PHI doesn’t make the playoffs and go on the cup run.

-If Hansen shot to the empty net in game two last year hits some snow and the puck in accidentally goes in canucks go back to SJ tied.

-If LaFayett is an inch off on his mark and the puck goes in, canucks tie the game and possibly win the cup

    Realism of the NHL game.

The unpredictable luck that is involved in winning a hockey game. Pucks going off skates, sticks, “stanchions” all seen in a live setting which causes game winning goals. No CGI here.

  11. Refs shouldn't but they do, maybe not 100% but they can stop momentum and even switch it. I played competitive hockey at a respectable level(where people pay to watch you) one thing is true, once a guy gets 2 goals, you're taking away his time and space. Hooks & holds happen. The refs start letting that go and say things like "that's not a playoff penalty" or " we don't want to give away the game on a questionable penalty"

As have I, then you should know the feeling that as a player when you lose a series or even a game that if you just maybe scored on that one chance or did a little bit more to stop that one goal, that maybe you would have won the game. You should know that feeling that you know you (an individual) had the opportunity to change the outcome of the game.

As for CBJ or ATL were you privy to the books? In big business you need to have some writeoffs to balance against capital gains. Maybe the popularity wasn't there like they thought it would be. Maybe back door dealings happen. Or maybe you're right everything is on the up & up & 100% honest and 100% fair.

I don’t think everything is 100% but I do know that if you think they won BOS,LA,CHI the cups then they could have easily done that for the other more struggling teams and teams that struggled for longer. You can’t just pick and choose situations that apply to a theory and ignore the situations that don’t support you. Does the NHL have favorite teams, sure NYR and TOR come to mind. Two big markets and TOR always seems to get the favorable calls and suspensions (which people would assume is league intervention), But TOR did miss the playoffs for 6 straight years and could very well miss it this year. Where was the league’s winning help then? Refs do have the ability to play a role in the game but determining a series/playoff champing, not happening. To many peoples livelyhoods would be affected and not stand for that.

You talk about how well Loungo played to get it to game 7, but on the flip side of the coin did you see how aweful he played in the 3 that let it get to game 7+ the game 7 itself. Ever wonder if a goalie has ever played that hot and cold? There's more revenue in a 7 game series instead of a 4 or 5 game series. When was the last time a team scored 15+ goals/ game? When was the last time a team ran domination of 4 or 5 game series the whole way? There ain't no money in that.

LA comes to mind? So know you’re thinking Luongo is in on it. Come on use your head. Luongo almost destroyed his career that series. The guy has so much pride, do you honestly think he’d purposely cost his team other players on his team who worked so hard to get where they were

Maybe your right, Raymond didn’t actually break his back, Kesler didn’t play through a torn labrum, it was all an act for the good of the game.

You say that players can dominate....there is no player in this league that can dominate another team. The skill is too good. If you don't believe that how come no player has done 50 in 50 or had a 150+ point season in recent history? That means not Ovechkin, not Crosby, not Stamkos, not Malkin, not Tavares, not the Sedins can dominate how you describe. Once in a while a guy has a flukey game and lights it up, but it's not an everyday thing.

Funny since Ovi’s got 49 goals in his last 52 games. But besides that on a game to game bases players can dominate and take control of the game. How many times has a goalie been directly responsible for getting the win. What about when we watch Kesler go into beast mode and take the team on his back. Patrick Roy was one guy that comes to mind, he did it countless times in the playoffs, Kipper did it in 04. In the playoffs it does become an everyday thing, not always by the same player or every game but usually a series is determine by 1 or 2 players who elevate their game. That why usually when the Conn Smythe is pick, there is no question which one player deserved it the most.

Did Auger not have the power to decide a regular season game....better yet why was he so confident that he could tell burrows he would do it? Had he done it before a little less subtle?

That’s a bad example as Auger didn’t determine Canucks were going to lose, he wanted to get back a Burrows (the player) for the previous game. IF the canucks would have killed of the Burrows penalty or scored a few more goals the game would have been won. Still the players had control to win that game (just harder odds).

There are many teams in financial trouble that could use the NHL intervention. NYI, DAL, FLA and PHX who was their very own team before. Why were they not giving the royal treatment the last few years as the OP has mentioned other teams that have. Go back to the LA playoffs when the yotes play the kings. The Phoenix team was losing and costing the NHL millions of dollars. They were still desperate for a new owner and just like the NJ theory people have thrown around, nothing would help sell quicker like a Stanley cup finals appearance.

Game 5 Dustin Brown throws a dirty knee hit on Rozsival, which should have been suspend able and guess what zero call at a very important stage in the game. There was no better opportunity to have the yotes take a huge momentum swing and make that series go the distance and build even more excitement in PHX. And as you said earlier “There's more revenue in a 7 game series instead of a 4 or 5 game series” The yotes were even selling out in those playoff games imagine if it got to game seven or how easy it would be to market the team if they had a Stanley cup parade later on that year.

There is so much that goes on in a game that that league has zero control over. Players, hard work, and effort determine the winners of the game/series/playoffs. Even little fluky things l a player breaking a stick a ricocheting puck going off 5 different guys in front of the net, all determine who is going to win. But then again with this theory the league was probably the reason why the puck bounced off the stanchion in game 5 against the sharks. Since they wanted Vancouver (a Canadian team with consecutive sell outs) to make the SCF over their precious California team.

Just like most theories the logic behind it can only be used in certain elements to try and convince the people. It becomes flawed when looking at everything as a whole. Why does the theory only support one situation and not the other.

  12. You seem to lack the ability to comprehend the difference between "fixing" and "staging". Of course the players are not in on it, most have the i.q. of about 73 and would quack quack a bit too much. As for why do people still watch it?, why do people watch boxing, wrestling... They want to be entertained. Win or lose, I love the game. I've lived and died with my nucks for 24+ years, why quit now,

You seem to lack the ability to comprehend refs don't have 100% ability to decide a game. If players aren't in on it then what stops sedin's from getting 4 goals each in game 7 SCF, What stops Luongo from becoming an unbeatable wall. Just think, you obviously watched that series you saw how good luongo played in games 1,2 & 5 with out that great individual performance by him canucks likely don't get to game 7. Refs /league had no impact on how good luongo played to get it to that most exciting game 7. Without him it's a 4-1 boring series loss. Honestly please people think about it. Does the NHL favour teams, possibly but does the NHL rig games to pre determine the winner (like Wrestling) extremely unlikely.

There are so many factors that, Why does CBJ owners go along with this conspiracy while they watch BOS rake in the $$$, what about the owners in Atlanta, what about previous owners in NJ that lost millions of dollars when they had to sell the team. There is 30 teams in the league, yes Boston and now the california teams are doing well but it was done through building a good team over years of missing out of the playoffs. Where was the leagues involvement when CHI missed the playoffs for 9 of 10 years. They have had success by simply being better teams.

This biggest flaw to this conspiracy theory is the players determine everything, They have complete control over who wins and who loses. Sedins play good, score on our chances and we likely win. This is peoples lively hoods were talking about. they train their entire lives and give up so much in life to achieve this goal, only to let the league decide who wins and who loses. Come on now use our brains a little here. Only excuse for people to truly believe the NHL is fixed right down to pre determined game winner simply has never played the sport before.

    • Upvote 1
  13. Honestly if you truly believe the NHL is fixed down to who win each series why bother watching anymore. If it were to be fixed over 1500 contracted NHL players would have to be in on it. This is also a job for each player, their life income who are fighting to earn their next contract. A good/bad playoff series changes your pay dramatically, there is simply no way it can be rigged with players in on it. Refs also can help a team have an advantage but games won come down to the players. There for this claim is ridiculous and the discussion should be over with.
