News from the Shark Tank

The San Jose Sharks are happy to call up Patrick O'Sullivan from the minor league affiliate Saskatoon Tigers HCL. O'Sullivan has two goals and three points in 17 games in the bigs this season. He's done much better in the minors, where he's scored five goals and seven points in six games.

To make room for Patrick, T.J. Brodie has been re-assigned to the Saskatoon Tigers HCL.

The Montreal Canadiens are very pleased with the play of young Czech netminder Petr Mrazek against Canada at the World Juniors this evening! Though he is currently the 4th goaltender on our depth chart, we have high hopes for the youngster and tonight it looks like our scouting staff was right when they said he was the real deal.

From the Shark Tank

With a slight adjustment to the linup this morning, here is tonight's line up:

Brodziak, Thornton

Salo, Morris

Falk,

scratches:

Green+, Tallinder+

O'Sullivan, Lundin

With the Sharks seemingly still on their Christmas vacation, only 2 points tonight, curtesy of Sami Salo, the greatest all around Dman on the team, GM Primal OPtimist may have to pull the trigger on his head coach. There are not many other options available to the first year general manager, who on paper at least, gave the coach a lot to work with this year. There is a press conference slated for tomorrow morning, but the organization is being mum about its topic.

San Jose Mercury News Dot ComServing the Silicon Valley

In a morning press conference, complete with a Donuts and Muffins table and Tim Hortons coffee boxes seemingly flown in from Canada, the San Jose Sharks General Manager, Primal Optimist, is offering up uncensored access to his process like never before. Mr. Optimist has invited MercuryNews.com staff and reporters along with webcams into the Shark Tank for some candid moments of year end reflection.

The hands on GM explains, "There have been a lot of rumours in the black and white press lately about our coaching staff. The usual talking heads and beat writers conjuring speculation based on our spot in the standings. It is no secret that we are at the bottom of the Pacific Division, and its no secret that this past week we have not been able to reach double digit nights."

"Numbers don't lie, and we have had hundreds of points sitting in the infirmary for months now, you all know that as well as I do," a somewhat grinning Primal went on to say, "And because of those points stuck on the shelf, I have to say that our coaching staff is not the cause of our current situation. To make that perfectly clear we will not be replacing any coaches at this time of year, or in the foreseeable future. We will however see some changes here in San Jose."

"First of all, every game will be treated as an away game. No more million dollar locker room. The boys will dress for games across the hall in the facilities enjoyed by our local figure skating club.

Secondly, there are NO optional skates. You will notice if you glance out on the ice that we have 23 players there. Some are sitting on the bench in suits, those guys are on medical chits. The rest are skating.

Lastly, game night curfew is re-instated, on the road or at home, our players will be getting a good night sleep and hitting the ice early. I have already explained these changes to the team and so far, no one has indicated that they object to earning their pay.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen. No coaching change, and some tough love for this group of talented individuals, a little heat and pressure will help them form a team, and as a team, we can get out of this slump. It is unacceptable that we are behind a team like the Rangers, who have 7 injured players on the active roster and still have not made a single roster change all season. That must change, we must climb above New York before we can stand here in front of the press and say 'we fixed it'. Thanks for attending, Tonight's Line Up is a good one!"
