EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT

CDCGML League playoff races got closer than anyone may have thought. The race between 8th and 14th in both conferences is now less than 200 points. While that seems steep, recent events have shown in a good week that gap could be bridged. With rare exceptions, the post season is still wide open!

With 41 league nights of action ahead that gap represents just 5 points a night. A reminder the trade deadline is a little over two weeks away.

I think my boys had another good night..relatively...but won't know until the morning. Some 20 points that I can see there from 4 hockey games...generally that has to be good, lol.

As for Reimer and Scrivens, I am starting to like the platooning aspects of having two goalies...Toronto, Vancouver and several other places in the league are using two goalies roughly equally..its kind of cool.

If it weren't for Ego's who is to say the same goalie needs to play even a full shutout game? They could handle 30 mins each if their heads were in the right place.....I wonder if any team would be brave enough to pioneer that idea? 30 minutes of SUPERHUMAN goaltending from each guy every game....instead of a game each or a starter and a backup concept....silly probably. All well, Go Rangers!

Tonight is a big night for the Habs. With 13 guys going tonight, including Lindback starting and most of our best players in action, the results from this evening will go a long way in determining the course of action ahead of the trade deadline.

Rumours are running rampant in Montreal, as sources suggest that the team is talking to as many as 6 teams about potential deals...

I am always good for an opinion but in this case I want to keep an open mind on the idea of trading cap space...or of trading players while keeping some of their pay on your cap.

It could be good, but would be very open to massive issues. I am thinking of new GM's being sadled with talentless teams who have no cap space to even try to improve with...could get ugly...but in the micro sense of trading away a contract and keeping some of the hit...could be interesting. Would it be counter-intuitive to league parity and compete levels though?

I have no opinion just yet...its something to think about though.
