theminister
I'm happy to stay on topic and talk about this fictional war. But you're not, you just want to rant. that's fine, but don't mistake your irritation for anything more than it is. I've never understood the whole 'war' thing anyway. If more people walk, cycle, take transit, etc... that's just more space for those that do have to drive. But like most in these discussions you don't want to talk about rational, logical issues and outcomes, you just want to piss and moan about that guy that cut you off and then somehow equate that with all cyclists. There are plenty of horrible, deadly drivers out there, where's the outrage for all the people that have been killed and lives ruined by crappy drivers? Surely if safety is your concern you would be much more interested in dealing with them wouldn't you?

Wetcoaster
Exactly the point. There's only so much road, so much street parking in and around the DT core. Would people prefer if parking was free but you could only get a permit to drive into the city twice a week? Either way, people can't complain about lack of transit infrastructure and not pay for it somehow.
theminister
However this $40 million take on parking is not earmarked for transit improvements - it goes in the City of Vancouver General Revenue fund.

Wetcoaster
http://vancouver.ca/...ing-budget.aspx Of course, no. the Mayor is not using that revenue for his approved budget. In your world, those funds go directly towards his illegal War.
theminister
How do you know the parking money is not being used for other "priorty" projects. Proves nothing. Now if the City says that those revenues specifically are dedicated to transit infrastructure in Vancouver then you may have an argument. As it stands you do not. Gustavo Fring
Even if we pay for our parking without complaining? Or if we are driving to your community? This isn't about not using cars.... it's about complaining about their extrinsic cost to operate in the City of Vancouver, a city which cannot handle a mutlifold increase in vehicle usage. Surrey can... it has highways. So does Burnaby, so does Coquitlam. If you ever complain about traffic in Vancouver you are a hypocrite.
inane
I'm joking mon. But meh traffic for me aint that bad (I travel to langley from van). Gas prices I do complain about. morrissex95
You mean our very antiquated and inefficient public transit system? lol

silverpig
Just cuz theirs is bad, doesn't make ours good. Canada wants to toot its horn about being green and all just cuz they put a recycling bin on the street. Those are pretty marginal improvements compared to taking cars off the roads if they could improve the transportation systems in all cities.
